I wouldn't go after Branch. I like the NT by committee approach. Draft Paul Soliai, Walter Thomas, & play Pouha & D-Rob.

The good 3-4's around the NFL recently have had one very good to great NT.

Casey Hampton, Jamal Williams, Vince Wilfork, these have been the guys who have keyed their 3-4's front.

There are a couple of teams that have played multiple NT's: Cleveland and San Francisco primarily, and they have had some success but no dominance at all particularly in the run game.

The Jets used D-Rob primarily at NT last season but alternated Moore for him now and then with very little success. Basically people ran all over the Jets all season although things were improving somewhat later on. The improvement was still not enough to be that viable against a good rushing attack and the Jets only beat one team last season (2nd New England game) that had a good ground game. Editing to say of course you can argue that Buffalo qualifies as a good rush team even though they looked strong against the Jets and less so against just about everybody else.

The 3-4 defenses against the run last year:

    5. Dallas
    6. New England
    9. Pittsburgh
    10. SD
    20. Jets
    26. SFO
    27. Cleveland

branch is not a 3-4 NT. not at 6'6 and 320 lbs. thats ridiculous. he could be a great 3 technique DT (4-3) or maybe even a 3-4 DE but he is way too small and too tall to play the NT position in the nfl

I like that. DeWayne did have a good year, he was a monster the last 9 games of the season. He was in the back field play after play.

That means nothing. We were as bad as a defense could be the first 8 games of the season, but everything changed after the bye week. Our team defense was awesome, our front seven were great. We are going in the right direction, we just needed some help at DE and CB.
And if you ask me Erik Coleman was nothing special the last two seasons, I would like to see us draft a young safty to take his spot.

Actually, after the bye we allowed 940 yards rushing. For the second half of our season we were 17th in rushing defense. The fact that we played Houston, Miami, Green Bay, Buffalo and Oakland down the stretch is more likely to account for the big difference in rushing D from first half to second as all 5 of those teams were in the bottom dozen of the NFL in rushing last year.

See the world as it is, not as you wish it were.

Reporter: Can you clarify the trade rumors on Jon Vilma?

Tanny: I'm glad Jon's here. He's happy to be a Jet. Talk to me after the draft.

Reporter: Can you clarify the trade rumors on Dwayne Robertson?

Tanny: I'm glad Dwayne's here. He's happy to be a Jet. Talk to me after the draft.

Reporter: Can you clarify the trade rumors on Justin McCareins?

Tanny: I'm glad Justin's here. He's happy to be a Jet. Talk to me after the draft.

Cosign. D-Rob was decent last year, but nothing more. He is not an NT, and I don't think he ever will be. I hope he pleasantly surprises me this year, but I doubt it. It's not his strength. He would be great in a situational role (specifically passing downs), but with his salary, that just isn't reasonable. If we can get something good for him, we should try to.

Do you not think that the other 31 teams in the league know of his bone on bone condition which is why he will NEVER be more then just another average player to go along with all the other average players the NYJs have had thru the years?

The reason he'll never be a star is that he hasn't ever been a star since high school. I consider D-Rob to be a good player in a 4-3 and an average one in a 3-4. On the right team he could be a force as one of two DT's.

BTW, I think D-Rob still has substantial value around the league. He was a high draft pick and has performed fairly well when given a system that he could flourish in. I would not be surprised if he retained first round value in a trade, albeit mid to low first round value.

To me, Tanny says: "I hope we get some value for everyone of those guys, cus i really wann trade them, and i already know, who i?m gonna draft with the picks i get for them!"

What about the Idea of trading Vilma for a pick, where we can get Willis? (Just an Idea, don?t Crucify me)

If our FO really thinks Olsen is the Man they want, maybe they feel we need to get a additional Pick, to get him cus we got too many holes to fill, and can?t afford to draft a TE!?!

Many teams have a lot of Cap space and wouldn?t be that worried about DRobs salary, than they would be in upcoming Years, puls he had a very good year on a Position, he obviosly isn?t made for, so maybe a GM falls in love with him, and we got a Chance to get more than good value for him.

Carriker is the ideal 3-4 DE, he may be the best 3-4 front 7 prospect since Richard Seymore, if your team plays the 3-4 you gotta think of ways to get him.

Maybe Vilma is the one, that wants a Trade, not our FO, if he feels he can?t be that dominant in a 34 as he can in a 43, he maybe sees wants to be traded right away. If he struggles another year, nobody would want to give up a 1st (that we will demand) next year, and he has to stay here till his Rookie contract is over. He will get a huge contract in 2 years, if he?s as dominant as he was his first 2 years in the league, but he won?t if he struggles 3 years in a 3-4. In the end it all comes down to Money.

would you like a front seven like that:

    ......Ellis......Branch(1st for Vilma)......Carriker(our 1st+DroB)
    B.Thomas...Barton...Hobson...Moss/Spencer/Abiamiri/Crowdler/Woodly/Robison (2nd Rounder)

We would still have a Day1 Pick for CB and OL.

Just some thought, i don?t say i want this to happen, or it is likely to happen. I acctually want them to give DRob another shot, i belive he could change the way people think about 3-4 NTs, but if it comes out like that i wouldn?t be crying.

Interesting ideas. I'd much rather have the front 3 than what we have right now.
