Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Not looking to just get rid of him, but if u can get a great deal for him......jump on it. Honestly, I don't see the Jets' defense missing him that much. He's not a speed rusher or sacker !!!!

  2. But what he does, Is allow the speed rushers and sackers, to sacrifice their responsibilities in coverage, w/o giving up too big of holes inthe flats. Vilma is our best coverage LB, and is arguably the best in the NFL.

Honestly....He's not that kind of player. He isn't Ray Lewis. He may be compared to him, but he don't play like him. a good player, don't get me wrong; but he lacks that speed that would separate him from the pack.

The point isn't to draft another LB. Its to give the Jets' extra draft picks.......

Run_N_gun10 I agree with you completely. When dealing in these hypotheticals on a fan message board you are going to get a fan's response - a general overvalue of fan favorite players. I love Vilma as a Jets fan and don't want to see him leave the franchise. I am willing to accept losing him however if we can get a great return that will strengthen our franchise now and in the future. I am sure the Jets FO feels the same way.

Well put. I don't know how many of you realize just how many times we had to send the house on blitzes because we lacked the personnell for the pass rush from Hobson's side and because Kimo was terrible. Vilma was one of, if not the only man in our front 7 in coverage for at least 40% of our downs, if not more than that. Having Coleman in front of him and Bowens and a possible rookie rotating on the outside as a pass rush unit will allow him to get back to work as the playmaker he is rather than being the man covering everyone else's asses.

That being said, there's only 5 players tops in this league that I would deem "untradeable" by their teams. If an offer you can't refuse presents itself I think you have to take it. However, if someone's offering a value equal to how Vilma was coming out (the #12 pick), I think you refuse it. In all honesty, the only player I'd trade up for would be CJ, but that's never going to happen. Our picks at this point are perfectly placed to grab value at positions of need (G, CB, pass rush OLB, WR depth, etc.).

Unfortunately that is not the reality. People seem to love to dump on Robertson but he played NT MUCH better than Vilma played LB. DRob got a good push, which KVO and Sean Ellis could not match which created a gap, and with Vilma unable to shed a block most of his tackles were downfield from behind. Vilma is a leader but the Jets and the types of players that they have would fill that void easily.

vilma has nothing but speed sideline to sideline.

DO YOU WATCH JETS GAMES? because if you dont see it then you need to upgrade to an HD tv to see it clearer.

It doesn't work like that, if you are trying to get the most you can for him. If you have any interest in trading someone, you do it as early as you can. The longer you wait the more his value depreciates. Especially, in the case of Vilma another year in the 3-4 is not going to improve his stock around the league.

If somebody offered a first for him of course you take it. Nobody would even think of that though. I don't think I would trade him this year, especially, for a second. Like somebody else said I'de give him another year before doing that. The reality is you probably wouldn't get more then a 3rd and that would have to come from someone committed long term to the 4-3. Quick, name those teams.

I don't want to sell my house, but if someone knocked on the door and gave me a crazy offer, I'd be packing my bags the next day.

At the right price, anyone's expendable.

This is a real possibility all right... in Fantasy land... you might meet Mary Poppins on the way home too... So glad that you have absolutely no say in any move the Jets make... are you related to Kotite? Oh wait... I know who you are... Joe Walton.

I don't think Vilma had a great year last year, but I wouldn't even consider trading right now (short of some insane, unreal offer). The thing many Vilma detractors don't seemto recognize is that a significant percentage of Vilma's issues last year were the result of poor play on the line. The domino effect--combined with the newness of the system--hurt Vilma's effectiveness.

If I'm putting together a team, Jonathan Vilma is on it. He is an amazing football player who I expect will be much better this year. He will be more comfortable in the defense, and after analyzing what went wrong last year, the coaches are going to prepare him better to excel within schemes.

oh yeah, and hopefully we'll have some improved personnel on the line!
