Tannenbaum's stated philosophy is to try and have the roster set before the draft which is probably why they were looking at Gay and Andrews yesterday. Do you think we would give up our two 2nds for them, especially one of them to NE? Is it a smart move to do that? What position would we go after with our 1st if the roster is set? If he is really serious about that then why didn't we look at some of the better FAs when they were available? Lots of questions.

Personally if we have to give up 2nd rounders for those guys, Id rather Tannenbaum call some teams and try working out trades for better players. I just feel like losing draft picks for guys like Gay and Andrews just isn't smart. Didn't we learn that already with Barlow? I just think we could get a better OT in the 2nd round.

They can't sign both players without working a trade with 1 of the teams, even though we have 2 2nds.

The RFA rules state you must give the pick in the round specified (2nd in this case, for both players) equal to or higher to the pick you have.

So, our #59 is eligible, but #63 is too low.

I say both players are worth a second round pick, reguardless who gets the pick. Taking one of NE players like Gay would hurt them much more than any 2nd round pick could help them.

It is always better to get a proven player than take a chance on a rookie. How many 2nd round picks have the Jets had in recent years that never pan out, for that matter how many 1st rounders? Plus add in the time it takes to groom a 2nd round pick, which in both these cases has already been done. Gay knows our defense so there is no learning curve like there would be with a rookie.

If you feel Gay is better at CB than Miller who we spent the same 2nd round pick on then you know that giving up a 2nd round pick for him is a smart deal wether it goes to NE or not.

If the team approves the deal you can not only use a lower draft pick in the round but even one from a lower round all together.

Give the #59 for Gay and try to work a deal for Andrews with the #63 packages with our 5th round pick or even just offer our 2nd rounder for next year instead. Easy to do.

Well, my guess would be if they go after those two then they use their 1st on a receiver. Ted Ginn if he falls past NE at 24. Not only a good receiver but a great returner making Justin Miller expendable. If Ginn isn't there they would probably trade down then.

OL and CB are probably the 2 positions, that have the most really good players in the draft, we could easiliy get really good pick ups on that positions in the draft. Guys like Grubs or Staley could be week 1 starters, and we could also find a shoutdown corner for the future.

When you look at what our FO has done last year they sould take a shot again, with all the pick the can.

U say, picking up a proofen player is better, than picking up a rookie, that will probably never pan out. I say, taking a shot on a player, that could be a all pro is better, than taking a player, that we already know, will never be more than average in this Leage.

    Just my 2 Cents.

Do some of you guys realize you are willing to give up a 2nd rd pick for an OT (Andrews) that has started only 3 Games and played one year of College Football. We think cause his brother is a good player, or because he's 325 lbs +....he's the next greastest OT. I'd rather keep the draft pick, and have Clement start in 07. IMO, Moore is the weak point of the O-Line, everyone of his stupid penalities he took in 06 pissed me off to no end. Teams tender these RFAs high to see if some will bite and they can receive a high draft pick. I hope Tanny learns quickly, building a Team from signing RFAs and losing draft picks isn't the way to go. These whole process just may be a smokescreen or to meet with players that will be URFAs next year.

Let's draft Blalock in RD 1 or pick a player like Beekman in Rd 2....both players have more playing expereince, even on the NCAA level.

Keep the picks! Giving draft picks to NE, especially high draft picks, is a horrible idea. I don't think we'll have a contender here in NY for another 2-3 years. Thats right around the time our pick would be hitting his stride should he pan out. Keep the picks and build for the future. Both of these guys will be available, draft compensation free, next year.

We'll be in contention this year, although not good enough to beat out the Pats. 2008 is the first season I expect to see the two teams on an equal footing and given the Pats go for broke moves this offseason I expect 2009 to be a very interesting year indeed.

For those looking for a Pat's collapse, don't get your hopes up. The Jets are going to need to rise to the Pats level while the Pats decline slightly. That's how competitive balance in a dynasty situation usually works out.

That's also why giving up first day picks to the Pats for good players is a bad move. To achieve the kind of parity that the Jets want they're going to have to come by their talent without feeding the Pats the draft picks that the Pats have proven to be able to turn into equal or better talent.

    Who is Tannenbaum?

In all seriousness, thank you for not going the "Us Weekly" route by calling him Tanginni or whatever his man-man pop culture nickname is here.

At the moment Tannenbaum is an unproven GM with a bunch of moves on the positive side of the ledger and a few on the negative. We'll have a better feel for him after this season when we look at the Jets roster and see if he actually has improved it again year over year.

I'd love to know what his philosophy is but right now we just don't know. He doesn't give out a lot of "revealed knowledge" in his interviews and his moves have been back and forth to a certain degree. The tight lips and cliches in the interviews is a very positive sign though. No good GM lets anybody else know what he and the organization are really planning to do.

One other hugely positive sign: the media was rife with rumors of the Jets going after Turner and Portis and even Betts but you never heard Thomas Jones name until the trade was a done deal. That's professionalism.

Making a move that would deem our only ProBowler expendable would be__________.

Gay is definitely not worth a 2nd round pick.

Andrews is a very strange case. He played no football at all in high school and very little in college only playing his senior year after he was spotted shot-putting in his junior year by the football staff. He has essentially learned the game at the NFL level and has made steady progress the last couple of seasons. The 4 games he appeared the most in, including 3 starts for the injured Bobbie Williams, were from Nov 19th to Dec 10th. The Bengals went 4-0 in that span and Rudi Johnson rushed for 339 yards and Palmer was sacked 4 times in 4 games.

My gut tells me he's not worth a 2nd round pick but he's clearly a very unusual player who probably has a lot of upside right now. He doesn't have a ton of wear and tear on him even though he's been in the league 4 seasons. The Jets, BTW, would probably play him at RG not RT even though that is his listed position.

Our roster is already clearly better than last years with Coleman, Bowens and Thomas. Draft will be interesting for us, and it is important for Tannembaum to have a good draft again. There are at least 40 players I have heard of that will "defnitely be gone" at 25. We will have a lot of options in the draft. I also think that as much as people here hate it, we may consider trading Coles and/or Vilma on draft day.

    ...fine with me.

I mean, he's a freakin kick-off return specialist, can't even catch a punt or play nickel...he's expendable, unless Mangini thinks he can coach up his dumb ass.

If we can get two guys who have proven they can play to a high level in the NFL - who are young and experienced...then I would DEFINITELY give up both #2's for Gay and Andrews. If Andrews plays G or T he's an upgrade and he might be our RT solution for years to come. No one knows Gay's talents better than Mangini, so I trust his judgement.

How would you like to go into the draft with CB and OL filled, and be able to draft anyone with our #1 pick? I would...

Yeah a lot of the aging or problematic talent (Mawae, Fabini, JAbe, Martin) has been replaced by younger people with more upside for the next season or two. I'm guessing a couple of more guys go in purges this season and by 2008 the core talent on the roster is 90% different than it was heading into 2005. That's what a new administration committed to rebuilding generally does.

I agree but only if there is somebody we absolutely love at around pick 15. Then we might try to trade up. I just can't think of anyone who would be there that we would give up one of those two guys for along with our 1st. Anything higher then 15 probably wouldn't get it done.
