Jets | Team has interest in M. Turner Sat, 31 Mar 2007 06:31:30 -0700 Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the New York Jets have shown interest in San Diego Chargers restricted free agent RB Michael Turner. again?
What...this again?!! Don't get me started, I'm glad it ended the way it did...TJ/Leon will be one of the the premiere combos in the league.
i know...its weird. i feel extremely confident with TJ&Leon @ RB. btw here's (a snippet of) the article: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20070331-9999-1s31chargers.html
that sucks i hope we dont pick up turner, we just got jones, and didnt we just sign him to a contract? even if we traded jones, wouldnt we still owe him money? besides, turner would want alote of money....
Nonsense...just rumor mongering to get NE to trade for him. If they had any interest at all they would have tried to strike a deal before they got Jones.
If we expressed interest before aquiring Jones, we still expressed interest as far as an offseason journalist is concerned. The more teams that seem interested, the more valuable the guy appears, yadda yadda.
0 chance Turner becomes a Jet. You don't give up a #1 and #3 round pick when you have Thomas Jones/Leon Washington/Cedric Houston combo.
Thats ridiculous...the only way this makes sense is if the Jets used Leon as compensation in a trade...which I think it going overboard. The Jets have Leon and Jones and those two guys can carry us to a superbowl.
Haha, yeah ok. That would be idiotic. We have jones and leon, turner would be useless and a waste of a first rounder. RB is set for yrs.
In trying to make sense out of this, which is impossible to do, all I can come up with is this and all of them would have to be true. 1 - The Jets have found out something they don't like about Jones since the trade. 2 - The Jets already have a trading partner for Jones. 3 - Somehow, because the season hasn't yet started, they don't take a cap hit by trading Jones. 4 - They realize there won't be anybody better to take at 25 then Turner in the draft. It's a mighty reach though.
Why do I suspect that somebody from the Chargers started this rumor in order to drive up his price and possibly make some team think that they have to make a move quickly in order to get him. If you noticed, most teams that needed a RB have already picked up somebody. Looks like San D overestimated what his value would be to other teams. A #1 and a #3??? Get real.
It depends on what we get back for Jones. Like I said, they would have to already have a deal in place for Jones to even think about this. I agree with jixxjr that this rumor is started to get someone else involved. I think it's NE because they have 2 first round picks, no healthy RB and 4 comp picks to boot. What they don't have is a 3rd rounder but that article seemed to say it could be a 3 from next year. oops..actually it's a 2nd round pick NE doesn't have. Just to keep this thread totally crazy, think about all the reasons that trading partner could be the Giants while you're at it.
Bogus rumor. The Jets aren't parting with value for another RB when they still have questions on the offensive line, the secondary and in the defensive front 7 and have a draft pick pretty much guaranteed to answer one of those questions.
The following quote is from rotoworld.com {"In addition to the Titans and Bills, the Cowboys and Jets have reportedly shown interest in acquiring restricted free agent Michael Turner. "Sources" tell the San Diego Union-Tribune that all four clubs are willing to part with their first-round picks, but the Bolts want a first- and third-rounder. This story seems a bit far fetched."} I'm surprised SD would even include the Jets as an "interested" team at this point...it just undermines their credibility. I believe me may have inquired prior to the Bears trade, but obviously we're no longer in the market for a RB of this magnitude.
the only reason why we are showing interest is to make the bidding price higher for other teams to get him...like buffalo...the more they give up, the better for us
You got it right there. I'm not really sure if the Pats are interested in him but I think we all know that the Bills are, and we need to keep that price high for a division rival.
They will have to come out and flatly deny it or risk getting Jones in a dither. Not a smart move if they really did inquire no matter what the reason.
Jones has no business getting in a dither unless they acquire the guy. BTW, they don't have to come out and do anything when they can talk to him behind closed doors and avoid showing their hand to the rest of the league.
