I'm a rather large Nile fan, and although I haven't seen 'em live myself, I've heard that they had a rather shitty stage presence (at least, since they lost Vesano). Can anyone confirm this?
I've seen them 3 times, one time they blew and the other two times they were great. It's like any other band. Their stage presence is kind of schmucky but the actual performance is good.
Ahh they were always like the "35 year old wwf fan" of classic Metal. I dig some of the ballads like "Heart of steele" but find any band that continually mentions themselves, in the 3rd person mind you, in many of ther songs, a tad bit cheesy.
It's the Cheesiness and complete over-the-top ridiculousness that makes them so good. Pretty much all lyrical content in metal (or any music genre) is pretty stupid whether it's satan, gore, NSBM, or dragons and swords of fire and shit. At least I know the latter isn't meant to be serious in any way. Not to say I find the rest objectionable, far from it. But you're right, I would imagine most of their fan base is fat guys in their 30's, playing WOW or D&D and watching wrestling.
You guys have got to be kidding me. "Every one of us has heard the call Brothers of True Metal proud and standing tall We know the power within us has brought us to this hall there's magic in the metal there's magic is us all Heavy metal or no metal at all whimps and posers leave the hall Heavy metal or no metal at all whimps and posers go on get out Leave the hall Now the world must listen to our decree We don't turn down for anyone we do just what we please got to make it louder, all men play on ten If you're not into metal, you are not my friend Heavy metal or no metal at all whimps and posers leave the hall Heavy metal or no metal at all whimps and posers I said Leave the hall Now the world must listen to our decree We don't turn down for anyone we do just what we please Got to make it louder, all men play on ten If you're not into metal, you are not my friend There's metal in the air tonite, can you hear it call If you ain't got the balls, to take it you can Leave the hall Heavy metal or no metal at all whimps and posers leave the hall Heavy metal or no metal at all whimps and posers leave the hall" I'm sorry, those are just plain awful. These guys make me cry laughing.
Although, I will admit that DeMaio's bass solo in William's Tale was pretty killer. Man, they totally didn't deserve him. That's probably the only Manowar song I'll admit to liking.
I'm pretty sure he plays a piccolo bass almost exclusively. That's how he can get so much speed on it.
Hatebreed will be there too, so there will be plenty of hc pit ninjas to accidentally hit in the face with elbows. It's gonna be tragic. Edit: Also, the new Manegarm album is ridiculously better than the new Finntroll. I just wanted to say that.
I actually like Defender w/ Orson Welles and Black, Wind, Fire and Steel. Back in 87 when FTW was released we listened to this cassette til it was worn out. We must of been chemically altered at the time.....
