Well you said the "worst thing" to ever happen to monday night football, you never specified a particular type of announcer. Actually to this point I'd say ESPN was the worst thing.

I think the MNF crew sucks, every single one of them. I absolutely cannot stand watching MNF now. Madden might be annoying but at least he understands the game. Tirico is a terrible NFL play by play guy, doesn't know what he's talking about and has maybe the most boring voice I've ever heard. Korn just can't go through a game without making some stupid reference to his fantasy football team, and butting heads with Theisman. And Theisman may be an idiot, but he was actually the most intelligent(football-wise) on that panel, which is pretty sad.

Jaworski is fine, but there are 2 other guys that need replacing.

So far ESPN has ruined MNF imo. Sunday nights are soooooo much better.

coincidentally, ESPN was also the worst thing to happen to SNF.

I think ESPN's popularity is the worst thing to happen to professional sports, so maybe I am thinking of things in more a broad, general sense... but I get your point and agree with it for the most part.

However, I think that when an integral part of the broadcast is dropped into a cesspool like they did with the MNF analysis, it becomes more of a shame than the Miller/Kornheiser thing. Although I think Madden's analysis deteriorated over the years, he continued to serve as a bridge to the gap between the casual football fan and the hardcore fan. Theismann was a poor substitute. And of course ABC/ESPN is the reason for this... touche.

What they really have to do is get rid of those special appearances. They have some random celebrity who knows nothing about the game promoting whatever they're doing. It's annoying. It's like they're doing Jimmy Kimmel's job for him.

I like the special apperances. Always good for a few unintentional laughs.

Either way, I'm estatic over the Jaworski/Theisman replacement. Major upgrade. Kornheiser will be a lot better now that he will have someone intelligent to talk to.

Jaws is a gigantic upgrade over Theismann.

I like Kornheiser on PTI, but he's clearly out of his element on MNF. On a completely unrelated note, a friend of mine used to work in marketing for ESPN, and was not very flattering when discussing Kornheiser.

    Espn Acknowledges Sunshine-for-vanderbilt Swap

It's now official. ESPN has announced that Joe Theismann is out and Ron Jaworski is in as the primary former-football-playing presence in the Monday Night Football booth.

ESPN cites no reason for the move.

The network also states that Theismann has been offered "a prominent football analyst job" with the network. As we suggested on Saturday night, this offer is likely motivated by the reality that Theismann remains under contract, and that if they don't use him they'll still likely have to pay him.

But if Theismann feels emasculated by the change and the manner in which it was handled, he might opt to resign. And ESPN would then owe him nothing.

Since Jaworski will be joining MNF, he needs to have his own nickname. From this point forward, he will be referred to by us as "Gloria Vanderbilt," in reference to his habit of wearing glasses reminded us of the frames George Costanza once purchased from the collection of that same name.

Nothing more annoying than someone cut/pasting from another site (I could tell without even checking profootballtalk.com) and not citing it.

if you're going to use someone else's work, how about citing it? (checking the NFL forum, the proper forum for this, would be another recommended step)

This is great now I can tolerate more then one game a year on ESPN.

Theisman was the epitome of suck, he was terrible. Jaworski is knowledgible, likable and able to break the game down so many levels above Theisman it is not even funny.................. good riddance.

Bingo! I have always liked Tony Kornheiser but he sucks on MNF.

    Horrible really.

Of course his play by play in Miami only strengthened my thoughts on this.
