The prayers of many may have come true. Looks like Joe Theismann is finally out of the MNF booth. [according to Mike Florio]

    http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2007/03/24/joe-theismann-out-at-monday-night-football/

The web site Pro Football Talk is reporting that ESPN's Joe Theismann will not return as a Monday Night Football commentator for the 2007 season. If PFT's sources are correct, football fans who like Xs and Os are going to be very, very happy: Ron Jaworski is reported to be Theismann's replacement.

It was an uneven debut year for Theismann, who teamed with Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser on ESPN's first year having MNF. Reviews of both Kornheiser and Theismann were generally negative, but ESPN had previously indicated that both would be back alongside the longtime ESPN broadcaster Tirico.

They will still suck, the only thing saving them from being the worst play by play crew is Bryant Gumbel

I like Mike Tirico the play by play guy. He has no ego and doesn't mind sharing the mike. Jaws is a great analyst. Many of you guys may remember the Chargers/Raiders Week1 game last year with Brad Nessler, Jaws, and Vermeil. That was a terrific broadcast. I like this.

Nessler/Jaws/Vermeil was/is so much better than the Three Stooges were it's not even worth making a detailed comparison.

Are you kidding me? First off all, a bucket of bricks would be a step up from Theismann. Secondly, Ron Jaworski is one of the better NFL analysts out there...one of the few "experts" who actually still has a shred of credibility. What exactly do you have against him?

Aside from his comments last year during the draft about how Clemens could surpass Leinart, Young, and Cutler, usually his opinions are reasonable and insightful.

All 3 were brutal as a team so they only correctd 1/3 of the problems.

Kornheiser's just not an announcer, he's fine on PTI, but nothing more.

Yes. Kornheiser is the worst and those appearances are god awful. Jaws is an upgrade, now if they would just get rid of corny.

Get over your Philly hate for a second and realize how ridiculous you sound. Theismann is possibly the worst analyst I have ever heard. Jaworski is fair and a good judge of talent, and has the benefit of not being a complete schmuck.

Theismann was the worst thing to ever happen to MNF.

This is definitely good news, and I will probably watch more than 1 MNF game this season.

Neither were brought in to break down the game, they were brought in for entertainment value as a third person in the booth. Theismann did nothing but stink up a functional and necessary angle of the MNF booth, and for me, made the games unwatchable. I liked Miller, don't like Kornheiser, but they were able to be ignored. You can't ignore a horrible analyst if you're a true football fan.

That comparison is flawed, and I don't even think either did that bad of a job. I mean, Kornheiser knows little about the ins and outs of the NFL, but at least he made some decent barbs at Theismann (whose head they apparently zoomed over).

Thank God! Jaworski is probably my favorite analyst/commentator/"expert". He actually knows what he's talking about and gives detailed explanation instead of bullshit stories and crappy jokes.
