No the better question is named the 10 best players on the NYJs then compare them to the players on other teams at the same position then U get a accurate reading of the ability of our players
well if the question is "are we building through the draft?" then the answer is yes. If the question is are we doing a good job relative to the other NFL teams?, then the answer is we are doing ok. Afterall we were 10-6 last year, and do have some cornerstone talent
Ok fine...Who are the 10 best players? This might make you form a complete list. But than again, you are good at lists.
this is why Abe was brought up-- "Last year by trading down a few spots we achieved the following: -Acquired Nick MAAAAANGOLLLLLD -Acquired Kellen Clemens -Acquired a 2nd Round pick in the 2007 Draft" Someone was dumb enough to think that we got Mangold in the Kellen Clemons trade down pick, so I had to clarify.
I don't know, who they are, but none of them came by trading our picks away. Rhodes, Cotch, Leon, B Smith, E. Coleman are all good players, and came in rounds 4-5. This is why I don't like trading away a 4th for Barlow, a 6th for Ramsey, and all the others I listed before. Every team builds through the draft, so I don't want to hear how we are somehow more apt to do so, especially when we have wasted picks on guys who were cut a year later.
And if I'm noit mistaken, exactly 2 of those wins were against teams with a winning record. What do you think the record will be this year when they have to play a tough schedule?
Amazing you have complete stroke victims like little crotch and don and you guys have not figured out the ignore button. They add absolutely nothing to this forum. They have no knowledge about football and are not even competent darksiders in the least. Geez they do not even have comedic value of say rajenson or other trolls. Put them on ignore and do not even respond to them they are a joke.
When they say we are building through the draft what they mean is that they are going to use free agency for value pickups and not break the bank. To get their superstars they are trying to promote from within and keep there own guys. If we went out and blew our whole wad on guys like A. Thomas, Clements, Porter we would not have the money to keep guys like Cotch, Rhodes, B. Thomas etc. In the long haul it is better to have guys come up through your system and stay in your system.. Moving a great player into a new system is sometimes a distaster and in FA it can be very damaging to your cap. Nobody knows your own guys better than you. Less risk keeping them bc you know 100% what to expect. While we have given some picks away, sometimes it is not avoidable or a better decision. When you know there it is unlikely that you can fill a spot in the draft they you may have to part with a pick to get a guy. I think though we have been pretty conserative with that. However, I agree. I hate giving away picks and I hate even more trading up. If I were a GM I would trade down almost every year to stockpile as many picks in rounds 2-4. It is cheap and time has proven that there are great players and solid contributors that come from there and you always have a healthy cap.
I have seen you respond to dozens of posts-- none of which have you ever added anything to a football argument- it's always some negative comment that has nothing to do with the thread. If you are confident in your football smarts, than lay it on me, and shut me up with your abundance of knowledge.
So those teams who signed A Thomas, N clements, E Steinbach-- they're not building through the draft? What are they going to do April 28th- sit at home? Every team builds through the draft, it's stating the obvious-- we are not building through the draft any more than other team in the NFL. This is just another case of sour grapes from fans-- EVERYONE wanted A Thomas- when we didn't get him, then here come the threads about how good teams build in the draft, and don't need FA. NOBODY is going to man up and admit it, but everyone on here wants to make a splash-- however, it is in vogue now to act as though depth signings are the way to go, and signing prowbowlers is just a waste. All I know is, there wouldn't be one person bitching if we signed A Thomas to the contract NE gave him.
There would def people bitching if we signed A Thomas to the contract NE gave him. There are always gonna be people bitching no matter what the team does.
i stand corrected. there was so many moves in that draft they were hard to keep track of. mangold was acquired in the three-way we had with the falcons and denver. atlanta shipped their 15th overall to denver and got abraham from us and a 3rd round from denver. then denver gave us 29 overall. our trade down was a seperate move. my mistake as for trading our best defensive player, Abraham. yes, he was talented but he didn't want to stay in ny. if we would've kept him and he was franchised then we would've had a lance briggs on our hands. it was smart to trade him away. we got mangold for it and he was rated as one of the most productive rookies last year -- higher than d-brick. yes the jets have made mistakes in the past. but so has EVERY team. we can't predict the future and if we could have we would've taken dan marino when we had a chance. but we didn't. if i didn't know any better i'd say you weren't even a fan... or at the very most an extremely bitter one. players like lamont jordan were cap casualites. if we cant afford to draft the players we have picks for then we've got problems. it sucked letting him go but it had to be done. there is an answer for all of your questions and i don't have every one of them but there was a reason. please keep that in mind. :shit:
Sounds like this is just a thread to vent your anger at not making a big splash in FA. In addition think you are being a little too literal about the phrase "building through the draft" yeah, of course everybody drafts and everyone signs free agents too. The differnce is that we have decided not to spend big money in FA and I for one am GLAD we are not. Big money FAs are a big gamble and if you choose wrong you cripple your abililty to afford the role palyers that you really need to win. Would you be more happy if we just came out and said "were not breaking the bank" or "we are not making a splash in FA"? It is the same as we are building through the draft. Just means we are drafting and developing our own players and tying to keep them around as long as we can, promoting from with-in. It is smart football. The Pats did it for years. There are in a different position than we are in their development cycle now so maybe it makes sense for them to pay $$ and get A Thomas. We will see, but be patient Tangini are doing the right thing.
im seeing 2 players that you can term "reliable"....if youre claiming clemens, NO....reliable as in he shows up and wears a uni, then yeah...but as in plays and makes a contribution, the NO.
The thing is, I'm actually happy with this off-season-- The running game was vastly improved, and we got a DE who I think will be pretty good- and is actually young. What I am not happy with, is fans who flip flop. I can't stand seeing 95% of the people on here talking about how bad they want A Thomas, or J Porter- then, when we don't get them, it's sour grapes, and everyone acts as though they were never interested- much like the A Thomas bash thread created 3 minutes after the Pats signed him. Perhaps I'm expressing concern over past years when we didn't sign anyone big, and still couldn't even keep our own guys like R Thomas, L Coles, L Jordan, K Mackenzie, J Fergeson. Cotch and thomas is a good start, but this team has never shown me that it can keep it's own players- and when they did- vinny, c mart, chrebet, jones, lewis- they signed them to HUGE contracts late in their careers, and it totally F-ed us with the cap (hits) I think I have a right to question management- and trading away picks to acquire 1 year stopgaps like barlow, and ramsey are not rubbing me the right way.
You have to differentiate between this regime and those of the past. You can't not evaluate this FO based on what happened before they even got here. It is completely illogical. And when you are evaluating this FOs approach to the draft, you can't just look at the picks they traded away and completely ignore the picks they gained. The pick for Abe, getting a second round this year from Washington, and Tanny gained a few picks by moving around in the draft (which he will do again this year, I can gaurantee that). You can't just evaluate by looking at one side of the equation. At the very least this FO has broke even with the picks they have traded away and managed to get back. And there is still a possibility of getting some picks by trading Barton and McCareins. And the Barlow trade was done out of necesity. With Blaylock not working out and Martin going on the IR, they needed another body in the backfield. It had to be done.
See again my comments flashed over your head faster then a rocket speeding into outer space. I said say take Barrett & then compare him to the 31 others teams player that plays his position & see where U would rank him like top be 1 & the worst being 32. Hopefully if you did a very honest assessment of our starters you would find that they are mid range or below with no game breakers or game changers on the team at this time
