No ones said that. People have said if Carr is the one impressing in the preseason...then yes. Open competition.
Houston won't find a suitor, they'll dump him and Oakland will snatch him up, bringing two Fresno State alums together (Carr and Kiffin). Oakland will trade down for the multiple picks they need, however appealing Russell might be (because my mom can even tell you they need more than a quarterback from the draft to have any shot in this decade). And Carr will be saying "Hath anyone in this league have an offensive line?" Carr to Moss, Carr to Porter...we'll be hearing it all season. And Al Davis' Committment to Excrement will be able to say "Just win baby" again without a black toungue in his hollow cheek. Then, the Jets will be dusting them off in the AFC Championshiop when CBS cuts to "Legally Blonde" or some moronic movie like that.
The only fault logic I see in that was that the Texans descided to place an emphasis on the lines last year. They took two offensive linemen, the most talented defensive lineman in the class, and a line backer as the 5 headliners in the draft. Drafting Bush would have done little to nothing for them beyond gives the fans a name to be excited about.
Carr is actually a potentially-great quarterback who has spent his entire career on a franchise built from the ground-up that's lacked an NFL-caliber offensive line. In all honesty, I'd rather have Carr backing up Pennington than Clemens if it was cost-effective. Right now, Carr can play and I think if he finds even half of the protection he had in Houston, he will flourish. It'sa glass is half-empty/half-full paradox with Carr, but you simply cannot judge his performance based on the handicap that has been the Houston Texan O-line since birth.
Now let us pray that Carr can't find his way to the Fish. As much as I want him to be on our roster, I can't see the Jets going after him and the AFC East is strong enough of a division already.
If you didn't say that, than you need to post more clearly, because it certainly looks like you said you'd rather have Carr start over Pennington.
the only simularity between them is that they both look through the ear hole in their respective helmets
You'll get flamed for suggesting the Heismann winner . Apparently hes too small and winning the heismann is not all that anyway IMO whoever gets Smith is going to get a bargain. His upside far outweighs his downside , worth a punt I say. Won't last to the 4th , surely???
Well thats personal preference, or "bias" as a fan. As a coach, why wouldn't I leave it out for open competition?
Well...winning the Heisman never garaunteed anyone anything. Smith IMO was a very good college QB, but I'm not sure about him as an NFL QB.
Fair comment , but he won it by a country mile against the likes of Russell , Quinn , Johnson and Peterson.
Yes, but again Jason White beat out Larry Fitzgerald and Eli Manning. Its a college award. Usually its given the the guy with the most impressive numbers on one of the top teams (usually RB or QB)...take it with a grain of salt.
