Wow, why not throw in Chad. Then the entire CORE of our team would be gone. Idiot. If Vilma is traded, I will be sick for weeks. Next topic please, I can't stomach the thought anymore.
Charles Rogers was no longer a "can't miss" just before the draft, when there were reports of a drug test...the Lions simply ignored it, which wasn't smart. Mike Williams had a year off of football, no one knew what to expect but the Lions, again, ignored the risks and went for the home run on the first pitch. He actually showed a few flashes last year in one of the later games against Dallas, but I will agree that he's not worthy of the pick they used on him. Reggie? Hmm, Jordan? Byron? What's with judging a few guys who still have at least another year to prove something?
if I was a GM i would not trade the #2 pick for Vilma, Coles, and the #25. How many more years does Coles even have left, hes banged up every year
WHile those players were considered can't miss because of their superb college play, CJ is one of a kind in terms of size and speed. There has never been anyone like him before.
impact WR? what is it? 1000 yards AND 8tds or 800 yards AND 10 tds how many rookie Wr's have done those requirements? its probably 6 or 7 fingers as far as top of my head Rice, Galloway, Theresa Glenn, Moss, Mike Clayton, Bolden(only 2nd rnd pick as I know of to do it) Andre Johnson? someone else can do more work but Wr's are the biggest crapshoot in the 1st rnd ask the Lions

I did not create the trade. This is the trade that has been reported for our moving up to #2. At first I was very opposed to it, and still am for the most part, but I wanted to point out that there is a logic to it and would make some sense for both teams. That's all.
First of all, there is no way in HELL that CJ is worth all of that...not a god damned chance....secondly, nobody in the Jets head office is stupid enough to do that. Your evaluation of Vilma and Coles is completely wrong. What is Coles' attitude? His willingness to take the big hits like in the Miami game, get KO'd, and come back in the game? You're also judging Vilma's potential based on one season in a 3-4 so everything you say about that is really due to the speculation around the league. Also, you are completely guessing that he'll be gone in 2 years, that is complete speculation. So, the trade would do more harm than good, and the situation you have created regarding the players we have is mostly unproven to this point.
Thanks for putting in the work. If this post does not discourage those who pine for the Jets drafting an impact WR in the first round or, worse yet, trading up for one, I don't know what will. By the way, if you do the same analysis for RBs and QBs drafted in the first round, it shows the same amount of risk for RBs and almost the same for QBs. I would be very pleased to see a repeat of the kind of draft the Jets had last year - forget pleasing the gallery and the short-sighted fans - take players in the trenches where there is a need.
Do you know how many "one of a kind" first round pick busts there have been? I'm sorry, but Charles Rogers was as can't miss as a college WR comes. Tony Mandrich was a freak OL. Steve Emtman was a monster at DL. Andre Ware was going to revolutionize the QB position. Michael Vick was going to revolutionize the QB position. The list goes on and on. There is just no way to project or predict NFL success based on college play or size and speed. If the Jets were picking second, CJ may be the best pick on the board at that time, but to trade players and picks for him? Insanity.
What most people are ignoring is that many of the biggest busts are because of CHARACTER issues or injuries. Right now, Johnson is an uninjured saint. Think about Rogers...injuries killed his career, then crap piled on. Plus, Andre Johnson was the better prospect anyway, never F with the U's best.
Sorry, the trade is a horrible proposition and WRs are one of the biggest gamble positions in the draft. So many can't miss prospects miss the entire target. Be on the board in November and we'll see if he was worth the ridiculous trade proposal we see in the first post.
It would be nice to have CJ but we still wouldn't have a QB to throw the ball down field to him so what would we gain? It's obvious what we lose.
Most mocks have him going to Tampa, so y sould we go up to 2nd to grab him? the difference between the 2nd and 4th pick are 800 points, thats more, than our 1st round pick is worth. so, how could we get up to 4th? we need 1800 points one posibility would be Vilma+our first, in that case vilma would equal the 14th pick, if they really want to trade vilma (what i don?t hope), that would be my favorite trade. If we keep Vilma, the only ammunition left is Coles, so lets say Coles is worth the 40th pick (i?m not sure, if he is that high, but ok) we would have to give them our 1st+both seconds+Coles for CJ+their 5th (i really can?t see this happen) If we package both, vilma and coles a possible trade could be vilma+coles+our first for CJ+their second (36th overall) I don?t see any other players, on our team that we could trade for CJ, if we trade DRob, we need to go up for Branch. This are only some thoughts of mine, i don?t really know what value coles and vilma have, maybe i?m completely wrong with vilma=14th overall and Coles=40th overall. i don?t really wanna trade Vilma, but if Tangini thinks (or Vilma demands) we sould trade him, going up for the bigest Talent of the decade would be my favorite move, to "get rid of Vilma".
The Jets depth is still very weak compared to New England. Until the roster overflows with talent the prospect of trading 4 talented pieces for 1 is just a recipe for finding the Jets right back where they were in 2005, with gaping holes everywhere and not enough players to fill them. Last year we filled 2 of the 3 gaps on the offensive line and watched the defensive line develop a gap at right end even as we went from 4 down linemen to 3. In the secondary the prospect of a gap at corner emerged as Justin Miller was unable to step in and play at an NFL caliber level. Through all of this the Jets were largely untouched by the injury gremlin. We will not be that fortunate next season. To open up holes now as a trade of vilma and the 25 pick + later considerations for a position we already have filled with Coles would do is just asking for the Jets to collapse next season when something unforseen occurs.
I love unloading Coles and Vilma for value this season. Coles is not going to be any thing more than an over paid back up by the time this team is ready to take the next step and Vilma has much more value to a 4/3 team than he does to our team. I'm not sure I make the move for CJ but I like getting value for two guys who are over valued on our team and might bring more value than either is worth to us.
I don't have a problem with moving Vilma and Coles, however not in deal also involving the 25 pick unless the pieces the Jets are getting back improve our depth and talent as opposed to reducing it. If the Jets were to package Vilma, Coles and the 25 and get back the 6 to 10 pick and a talented player at a need position then I'd see that as doable. Right now WR is not a big need position and top 10 wideouts have been a crap shoot recently. Really though trading depth for value has rarely worked in the NFL. Most teams that are on the giving depth side of that equation wind up regretting it very quickly because the NFL punishes lack of depth like few other competitive ventures in life.
The Jets need two guards and a RT plus an a beast on the front 7 who has to be game planed for. We can probably get the two guards or a guard and RT in the draft, we aren't getting a game changer on D without giveing up something very valuable. In a 4/3 Vilma is very valuable, if we can get some one like Herm to over pay for Coles it's just a bonus.
