I didn't say they were the same talent wise, whatever that means exactly, come to think of it Jeff George was pretty talented. Trust me dude, your concern for Clemens is a little silly at this point. Gee, a rookie didn't overwhem the CS and beat a proven QB and another veteran for a job, what a shock. 2 years down the road I will be concerned. And if the CS staff was as concerned as you they wouldn't have cut Ramsey, just sayin'...
LOL, my favorite part of this: Brett Farve or any QB on a good team that wins get this label in a POSITIVE connotation...they are the beloved GUNSLINGER.
I didn't call him a horrible QB. All I said is I wouldn't want him playing QB for the Jets next year just because he has more talent than Chad.
I like Carr as a better version of Ramsey. But I think his price tag will be too high. I don't think he's ready for his "veteran QB who might give the rookie a run for his money if the starter goes down" phase. He wants a back-up role like the one Jeff Garcia had last year where he is the clear go-to guy if the starter goes down. My choice for 3rd QB is still Tim Rattay. And, yes, the Jets do NEED a 3rd QB. Brad Smith is not a QB - he is not practicing like one and he is not capable of taking over if Chad and Clemens go down. And don't say they won't both go down because we saw Chad and Jay Fielder both go out for the year in a span of 5 minutes.
for a 4th rounder and a little deal restructuring i like it. carr will be good somewhere else....but then what happens to clemens, and even more so, how does chad deal with it. carr has all the physical gifts a qb could ask for, and given even a decent line he could be a ton better in a year than he ever was in houston. if they got him for a 4th rounder they would lock up tannenbaum though...because hed have robbed 2 different GMs.
that LB they got in rd 2 was no slouch. he had a good season for them. goddamnit i wish i could remember his name...i know i was hoping the jets were going to take him with their 2nd rounder....i cant complain with mangold though....the guys a stud.
If the Jets got Carr the heirarchy that I'd see at QB going into camp would be: 1. Chad as the presumed starter. 2. Carr as the veteran backup and maybe more depending on how he did with his first real pass protection in the NFL. 3. Clemens as the developmental QB likely to take over when he's ready to go. That would give the Jets some real insurance (Carr is a tough mofo unlikely to get injured if called on) in the event that Chad goes down. It would leave the Jets with enviable depth at QB and the option to make a profitable trade in a season or two. It would allow Clemens to develope at a pace that the club controlled instead of at the mercy of Chad's health and well-being. It would also create an excellent competitive environment for the club's QBs over the next few seasons. The risk of a QB controversy would be tamped down considerably by the respect that Chad has from his teammates and the unlikelihood that any of them would be pulling for Carr to unseat Chad in training camp. If Carr played lights out and took the job, well I doubt that would cause a lot of controversy either given Carr's personality. Chad would likely be traded to another team that needed a starter if that happened, probably for more than the Jets gave up to get Carr.
culpepper came off knee surgery, and a HUGE part of his game was his legs. lets not call it the same. as for houston "finall having a qb they can groom"...thats just absurd. if they beefed up their O line around carr, and had another option aside from johnson carr would have had much better stats. they have screwed themselves into the ground, and because of that this kid hasnt gotten a fair shake. im not saying feel bad for him, hell, he plays football for a living...but if the texans were looking to beef up their line and players around a qb, id much rather go that route with carr than MS. lets not forget that MS was on a falcon team with a FAR superior offensive line then where he will be now. lets see him get the same results and then we will see.
you mean that monster QB that never won anything of importance at ND? Or do you mean that monster QB who, even under the tutalidge of charlie weiss isnt looked at in nearly the same light as other #1 picks (which carr was, and rightfully so). Or do you mean that monster QB who had that innate ability to choke when he had to make it happen? yeah, hes awesome. asking for carr to land in miami is like asking for ball cancer...neither is a good option. if carr gets moved i hope its to the nfc (if not here). if he goes to miami, you will see an improved dolphin team. i dont want to see that.
after all that, and you still piss on the guy. if im not mistaken, kubiak isnt the GM in houston...while im sure the HC will get some input into what the make up of the team will be, the over all shot caller for personnel moves is the GM...and since hes been there longer than kubiak he may feel a need to change direction. as far as the guys who say "never never ever ever carr...he sucks...what about penny"....its a buisness, and with CPs injury history its good to cover your asses. bringing carr in would def be a huge boost to the team, even as a back up. CP is going to get hurt again, its just a matter of when not if. id be much happier knowing we have a guy like carr backing him up than an unproven 2nd round pick who never played a down that was meaningful. blame carr all you want, but the mess known as the texans isnt his fault.
wow...just wow.... you wouldnt want a more talented player,,,,because.....because why? that makes no sense....why wouldnt you upgrade talent at any position? i love chad just as much as any other jet fan (i got his jersey) but the fact remains that hes injury prone. the ONLY aspect of his game thats at the pro level is his work ethic and his smarts. and while i agree smarts is a big plus, his game leaves plenty to be desired. instead of being blindly loyal to a fault, look at it objectively. take the emotion out of it, and look at the facts. if penny was on houston hed be dead right now.
Very well thought out and insightful post. I've always rooted for David Carr and I think that he'll be able to do something with his career once he gets onto a decent team. I'd really like to see us try getting him for our 5th or lower....I might even be fine with our third rounder. The guy would come into camp as the #2 and would probably at least push Chad for the job. Worst case, he becomes a serviceable #2. Best case, well, that's up to him in my eyes. If he can keep his head on straight here than I think he could really be something special. Keep in mind that I'm a huge Chad lover and saying this.
Yeah my bad, totally mistyped that. My point was that if Culpepper was worthy of a second pick and not a first then Carr isn't going to be worth more than a 6th. But thats a moot point now that he's been scrapped. I figure the Chiefs may look to him for a back up and so will the 'Skins. The Cowboys also need a backup and the Lions need someone in case Kitna dies of old age on the field.
I don't believe I "pissed on the guy" or blamed carr for the mess in Texas. My opinion is that Carr is not the answer at QB for our team. If he was some great QB like the original poster is trying to paint him out to be don't you think Kubiak would recognize this and argue until his face was blue to the GM about keeping him??? I don't think Penny is the answer either - but I don't want to get into that. Right now he's our best option and Carr wouldn't be an upgrade.
So wait...why does the head coach HAVE to be arguing for Carr to stay to prove that Carr is worthy of being someones answer?
All I'm saying is that if Carr had to the potential to be some superstar like the original poster is trying to say, Kubiak would want to keep him wouldn't he?? Why would he just let this superstar go?
