Behind our O line he may turn out to be a diamond in the rough instead of JV being just blah or worse as a MLB. To get him on the cheap to back up CP would be terrific & as Winny said if U can look ahead & he does excel then U have QB power in your hand to strenghten weak areas of the team like a MLB Also U left unanswered if I am under estimating our players then why is it we have not won a SB during the Woody regime
Because having good players here and there doesn't guarantee the team winning it all. By your logic, when have the Texans won the Super Bowl or even sniffed the playoffs with Carr? Expansion teams in ths era generally get good fast, like Jacksonville and Carolina did, this isn't the 70s, champ.
For the most part. I usually weigh in if we actually do something, but I'm typically not up for "what if we do this" or "we should do that" kind of things. The guys in charge seem to know who to get, so let them do their thing. You guys can call Chad Pennington average or noodle arm from now until July if you want, he's still going to be our QB on opening day.
Semi-unique circumstances with both of those franchises and both before the realignment. The last two expansion teams (Cleveland and Houston) have just sucked wind horribly for a multi-year period now. Houston has had terrible management from the get go with virtually every move between the picks of Carr and Andre Johnson being poorly conceived. Casserly would be in Millen-land at this point in terms of his rep if he did not have the expansion team crutch to lean on. The selection of Mario Williams with the 1 pick instead of a very profitable trade-down was a fitting capper for Casserley's mismanagement of the Texans. Carr was as good a prospect coming out of college as Carson Palmer. If he'd landed with a team that had any clue or prospects he'd be halfway to the hall of fame right now, as Palmer will be in another couple of years at his current pace.
The first part is true, but the last statement is pure speculation. Just because a QB is drafted in #1 or #2 doesn't mean he's destined to be good in the NFL. Jeff George, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler, Rick Mirer, all #1 or #2 overall, the list goes on. Not sure if Smith was #1 or #2, but you get the idea. Until you prove it in the pros it's just potential and speculation, which along with an EZ Pass will get us through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Yes, but unlike all those guys...Carr has a logical explanation for WHY things are going wrong for him. The team refuses to build an offensive line for him. Only last year did they even look into drafting significant talent on the ilne, and one of those guys suffered a career threatening injury.
He made a point about the O-line. People here have changed their mantra under Mangini to IT STARTS ON THE LINES. The Texans blow on both lines...think that might hurt them a little?
Maybe he does just need a chance elsewhere, and if we were in the market for a QB I'd be interested, but we're not. We've got a starter who takes us to the playoffs every year and a young guy who now has a year in the system to be the potential future QB and current backup. I'm not ready to gamble on another QB when we don't need to, apparently neither are the Jets because they're not getting Carr.
I can't honestly see anyone taking Carr over Palmer or there even being a debate about it coming out of college. Palmer is simply on a different level and has been since the first day he stepped on the football field. Granted he didn't start his first year but I view that as a mistake more than something that helped him.
here come the reminders that tampa and baltimore did it with below average QB's so why cant Chad. So I will launch a pre-emptive strike - we will not win a SB with Chad as long as he remains as vastly overpaid as he is.
Has Carr been to the playoffs? Has Carr taken a team to the NFL playoffs? Give me Chad over Carr ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Thats all I will say about this already beat to crap Chad thread. Other than if you think Chad will get traded after taking a rookie coaching staff and a rookie Oline to the playoffs, your WAY off base.
Has Carr had remotely close to the talent around him that Chad has had? To compare the body of work of the two QB's accomplishes nothing. I respect your opinion that you would prefer to have Chad - but to cite Carr's lack of going to the playoffs is completely misguided.
I really don't see what the Jets have to lose. Is a late second really that much of a gamble when the upside is so high. Carr has so much more talent than Chad and I would bet goes on to have a really good career in his next stop. I can't see the harm of having a QB surplus if that is what ends up happening.
