I choose not to listen to that link, it's bound to be something that I wouldn't particularly enjoy. If that's what others like, then fair dos, it's just something I have no interest in whatsoever.
Trying so hard not to get myself banned over you here. You say people thank God for helping them win, it's more giving them the strength to help them get where they were. This might mean overcoming a family tragedy or being able to push through that extra training session. You are taking it as if God just flicks his fingers and bam the Pats have won the superbowl. This attitude is just bloody ridiculous.
Maybe, maybe not. But I am sure if you ask Dennis Byrd, he would beg to differ. In fact, I would bet everything I own that Dennis Byrd would say that God was a Jets fan the day he survived that horrific play.
Or maybe he just got lucky? Maybe the cosmos decided to spare him after realiseing the carrot he ate before the game was PRECISELY five inches long? I firmly believe that faith is a personal matter, if you have it, good for you, but please stop evangelising at me.
I am not evangelising anyone. All I did was bring up another point of view. That is still allowed in the US and the UK? Free speech and all that... The fact that you are uncomfortable with that view point is your issue, not mine. I am sure others would say the same about your post. My point, which you missed entirely in your anti-faith rant, agrees with your point 100%. Faith is a personal matter and Dennis Byrd (if you haven't read his book "Rise and Walk") is a man a faith. He does believe that God gave him the strength that day to survive. Whether God exists or not isn't the issue...the issue is that his belief helped him. So please don't get defensive, as there is nothing to be defensive about. Your faith or beliefs, etc are your business. There is nothing wrong expressing them provided everyone does so in a respectful manner.
Sorry, I wasn't suggesting you were evangelising at me, it was a general comment to people who have that tendency. I'm not anti-faith at all.
For the record, I agree with your point about the evangelising. My issue with it is that it more often than not comes off with a "holier than thou" attitude (no pun intended!!!). IMO and experience, when you have a respectful conversation about the issue people tend to get more out of it and are usually suprised to find out that agree more than than they disagree.
And then he pissed off the Almighty by sleeping with Bathsheba, knocking her up, sending her husband to the front of the battle lines to whack the guy, all so he could marry his paramour. . . . .but now we're getting into Cincinnati Bengal stuff, so I'm going to move this unless it circles back around to Jets discussion.
If you've ever been to a game live you will see that when it is over players from both teams who share the same faith join to pray on the field. I don't believe they are joining together to thank God for helping them win/lose rather just thanking the Lord for allowing them to participate in life and come away from this experience unharmed. JMHO.....
I agree too. What pissed me off was when the thread was initially started there were alot of piss taking comments which were out of order. Each to their own.
