I know that Madden ratings carry very little creedence around here, but in the latest roster update they rank the top SS's thusly,
    1)T. Polamalu
    2)A. Wilson
    3)R. Harrison
    4)R. Williams
    5)D. Sharper
    6)D. Darius
    7)K. Rhodes

then it goes, Chris Hope, Mike Brown, Gibril Wilson and then Sean jones

Of course, Madden overrates vets so based on last season we gotta take Rodney Harrison and Roy Williams off that list

In My Opinion, it should go like this,
    1)T. Polamalu
    2)D. Darius
    3)A. Wilson
    4)K. Rhodes
    5)D. Sharper
    6)S. Jones
    7)M. Brown

Why not? He produced as well as any of them last year.

In name recognition, I guess he isn't up there with these guys. His team sucks, so no ones going to pay attention to him, but Jones is a damn good player who like our own young safety just had his breakout year. He actually had a better year than Reed last year.

Those Madden rankings suck. Williams is one of the most overrated players in the league. Rhodes is better than him already easy.

because i watched him play. hes a solid starting safety and all but thats about it. as for his stats, he had 5 picks. 3 of them were tipped (and shouldve been intercepted) by CB leigh bodden, so dont overrate his stats. basically he's having the same season erik coleman had as a rookie. it was a nice season and all but we all knew that coleman would never turn into a stud. a guy like ed reed or brian dawkins.

Polamalu isn't the player that Rhodes is, he had a fine season two years ago, but he's pretty one dimensional.

Polamalu is still a far superior player to Rhodes. Rhodes had one good season and he was a very good safety but he has to do it for multiple years before you say he's one of the elite safeties. I would certainly take him over Roy Williams and Sean Taylor, those guys always make flashy plays but they kill their teams with blown assignments, not staying in their gaps, trying to go for the big hit instead of playing the ball.

Sean Taylor hasn't done squat, after 3 years in this league, other than being a big safety that can hit. A monster in college, not so much in the nfl.

Maybe you should watch him play. He was a big playmaker in his rookie season and a shutdown safety in 05. He struggled a bit last season in a horrendous Redskins defense. They had no pass rush, they couldnt stop the run and then they used him as a run stopper, and thats definitely not who he is or what he does best. Thats like using Roy Williams to cover wideouts.

I'm too busy watching the Jets play. Maybe you should stop sniffing his jock strap. Other than getting fined alot and getting arrested he hasn't been the ball hawk he was in college.

Got to agree with you there.

Beofre last year, many were saying Taylor was far and away the best safety in football. He just scared the crap out of guys.

Does that even make sense? You didnt watch him play and yet you still try to judge him?

This has nothing to do with being a homer. I named you the top 5 safeties (IMO), 4 of them do not play for the Jets.

Just an uninformed opinion of Ed Reed. Ed Reed is the best safety in the game, hands down. He can do it all rush cover, block kicks tackle. Anything you ask him to do he does it extremely well . Absolutely absurd to talk about Rhodes and Reed in the same sentence. Also, whoever left polamalu off the list is sick in the head. Reed and Polamalu are the two best safeties in the league hands down...there are five or six that are behind, but they are significantly behind.

kerry rhodes is up there with the elite. But i am basing this on his stats from last season. Since John Lynch should have not made the pro bowl last season because Rhodes has much better stats by far. But thats just my opinion

I agree. I saw a guy on another board try to ask a loaded question in : How much would RHODES get to sign now? Is the GRANT deal the new GOLD STANDARD? IMO that is fallacious. The standard will be raised every year. RHODES is more talented then GRANT and if he has another great year, the sky will be the limit for him. I do worry about the cap but I also want the players to get what they deserve!

i love rhodes, hes an amazing talent, hes an amazing player and had an amazing year. he is one of my favorite jets but before i say this guy is rnaking up there with dawkins, polamalu, taylor, wilson, reed, etc. i want to see another year like the one he had, i have no doubts he can doit but i do have a hesistation on dubbing anyone a top anything until at least 2 seasons of the same consistancy are done. i have no doubt he was a top 3 saftey in the league last year and i think he has amazing potentital that i am confident he will fufill.

on the topic of how much he would garner in the open market, because of everything i addressed (potential, skill, how he played last year). he could concievably be paid the highest saftey contract ever if he was on the market, just look at nate clements. the market makes the rate, not the talent
