Lewis stops waiting on Ravens, agrees with BrownsBy John Clayton
    ESPN.com

For two years, the Baltimore Ravens have wondered about Jamal Lewis' breakaway speed. They no longer have to wonder.

    Lewis

Lewis, the franchise's all-time leading rusher, broke away from the Ravens and agreed to a deal with the rival Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed, but Lewis reached the agreement Wednesday night after a visit to Cleveland.

The Ravens released Lewis to clear salary cap room. Both sides kept in touch with the hopes of reuniting. But Lewis sensed his job might not be there. The Ravens have been interested in acquiring Bills halfback Willis McGahee in a trade.

Lewis, 27, decided not to wait and took Cleveland's offer. He rushed for 2,066 yards in 2003 but has struggled during the past three years. Last year, he played the entire season with a bone spur problem. He recently had surgery to remove the spurs.

The 5-foot-11, 245-pound back is one of the league's most powerful runners. He was the Ravens' first-round draft choice in 2000.

That's what I thought but they could still pick Peterson and have Jamal Lewis with 6-10 carries a game.

    Jamal Lewis to the Browns

    JAMAL SIGNS WITH BROWNS

John Clayton of ESPN.com reports that the Cleveland Browns have reached an agreement with running back Jamal Lewis.

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

What do you you think they do with their draft pick? I see them going after Brady Quinn

Bad signing. If this keeps them from drafting Adrian Peterson, the whole franchise should just be contracted.

Yeah they are obviously looking to draft one of the QB's, whoever (if not both) fall to them. Personally, I don't like the signing, I think Peterson would have been great for them in the draft. Well, we will see I guess.

I think this a horrible signing for them if it keeps them from signing Peterson. Jamal is obviously not what he once was.

Can they still draft Adrian Peterson? My prediction is that if they don't trade down, they'll take Peterson at #3.

they would be making a terrible decision if they didnt take peterson...but this is a team with soo many needs
and everytime they sign someone they blow out their knee...or both of them

The fact that they only signed him to a one year deal leaves the possibility of drafting Adrian Peterson very possible. If they thought that Jamal Lewis was their long-term answer at RB, they would have locked him down for more than 1 year.

I think Cleveland should pursue a franchise QB in the draft. Their downfall on offense the past two years was the passing attack not the ground game. Not a bad pickup if you ask me.

i think it is a combination.....considering b4 droughns had 1200 yds in 05 they hadnt had a 1000 yd rusher in 20 yrs
and then he followed that up with 700 yard flop
they need o-line badly...and actually frye had decent #'s at the midway point and then fell apart(i agree...he sucks)
it really hurt them to lose baxter/bentley to knee injuries...and both career threatening
    just terrible luck
getting rid of an injury riddled C in jeff faine(did great w/ the saints this year) and signing the best C in the league never looked so bad
a word of advice to jamal and adrian -watch your knees

    this means either
    a. he kills baltimore when they play em
    or
    b. he gets held to about 23 yards rushing vs. them

    I'm gonna say b.

But the thing about Jamal Lewis is, much like Shaun Alexander, he never impresses on "normal" runs in the middle of the field but he always finds a way to score when his team is in the red zone.
