Tom McDonald on NY1 Sports just said it, regarding Thomas Jones to the Jets It feels good to hear recognition like this finally :jets: :jets: :jets:
right now it's a great move yes... but we will determine if it's the greatest move ever, in the future for sure. I mean we have to see how Thomas Jones contributes PLUS our draft pick from chicago. How about if Chicago grabs the newest superstar in this league with the Washington pick? You never know. As of now, yes the trade looked great on our part as of now, but we will determine if it's a great move by the end of this year.
let's get that o-line upgraded...it got better last year, but thats still not saying much compared to the oline that helped to stifle the great Curtis Martin's career
The OL is alright. Still have young guys getting better. BTW, LOVE the avatar. Eat those all the time when I was a kid.
haha, thanks. I hadn't had one till I visited Germany for the first time, in 2001. They all love them all over Europe. The o-Line is making some gigantic strides with pass protection, but still needs a spark to make holes for the RBs. We'll see.....
Ok, thats a bit over the top. It was a good move yes, but not one of the best ever. Why don't we make this assumption after he plays here...
If Chicago does indeed grab the next superstar with that Washington pick then I'm sure the rest of the NFL along with the New York Jets will be kicking themselves for passing him up on round 1, especially those top 5 teams in early round 2. It's a matter of scouting.
Everything says that it is a great move, but I think I'll wait to see him play his first game for the Jets before I would ever even think that thought. :breakdance:
true true... i don't agree with you about the pick, since the draft is always sort of a grab-ass (i.e. marcus coleston), but i definatly agree: DONT COUNT ALL YOUR EGGS UNTIL They HATCH. i hope it translates into success on the field, but were still a loooonng way from playing fellas...
"The OL is alright. Still have young guys getting better." Correction, From Center to the left, the O-line is alright. The right side of the O-line is terrible. Ferguson/Kendall/Mangold are all keepers. The right side, IMO, needs to be upgraded. Sounds like the FO recognizes is it too, seeing their interest in Marc Colombo.
It is pretty funny how some are making him out to be our LT  I'm happy with the move but let's see him put the pads on and ram the ball down the Pats throats before anointing him. As for one of the best moves by the Jets ever, not even close. Let's not forget the signing of Namath to the AFL, Hess stealing Parcells, or Parcells stealing CMart and Mawae just to name a few....
After 427 K for Namath, and After Parcells stole Martin, this just might be, though trading Meshawn, was a pretty good one.
He did not go back far enough sorry to say. He forgot the drafting of JWN, Snell, Boozer etc & the signing of Maynard & others who brought the VL trophy to Hempstead in 69
I have to disagree with the boldened area above. What becomes of both 2nd Round picks after the fact is immaterial and has nothing whatsoever to do with the trade. The success or failure of both picks has to be removed from the equation. In other words, if Chicago uses the Washington pick to acquire a real loser and we use the pick we got from them to pick the next Tom Brady, you're not going to say that the deal was the most fantastic deal that was ever made in the history of sports. No, the deal is what it is. We move down the food chain in the 2nd Round and whatever comes from both picks stands on it's own. But it's definitely a terrific deal because the downside risk is minimal. We're basically investing the cost of the contract and the difference in draft picks is almost moot. Now, if you want to argue 3 years from now that Jones was a complete bust because his stats are garbage, then you'd have an argument.
If TJ has a productive, 1,000 yard year, is anyone here going to gripe about how we acquired him, or what we traded for him, given the finalized circumstances of the trade? If you feel the answer to this question is yes, then you will be unhappy no matter what, short of him picking up 1800 combined yards and 20 TDs. If you're still unhappy at that point, go to some other sport, you're just not a good fan. If anyone here says that there is nothing to gripe about if he gets us 1,000 yards, then it was probably a good trade, because I'm predicting that much production with fair certainty. One of the best? Who knows. We picked up one more personnel option by giving up some variable level of quality of said personnel in the draft. One more warm body through the door at the cost of having to go pick up a 'probably, but not definitely' worse player. In my mind, it's the best offseason moves by the Jets outside of the draft in the last half decade.
not one of the best moves ever maybe but definetly an excellent move was drafting Mangold last year... starting center for the next 10+ years
I wouldn't call the right side terrible. Moore and Clements were not the best pass blockers in the world and the most penalized but they were much better at run blocking than the left-side was, that's for sure. Our interest in Colombo stems from the fact that we don't really have a starting RT at the moment now that Clements is gone.
