canizzaro says we are interested in him also says tangini wants to sign a rt and a cb before draft to fill as many hole as possible. if we get colombo mcmichael and say the cb from indy id say that was a good offseason. would you guys agree?

We can do with without him, he drops to many passes, and he has a terrible track record off the field.

And the FO likes Chris Baker. He's going to be the starter.

I would like to see at least one more signing, preferably OL, this way we draft Defense

I wouldn't mind McMichael. If we got him I wouldn't complain, but if we didn't get him, I would be perfectly fine too. As for signing a RT - yes we should. As for signing a CB - no we shouldn't. There are no more very good CB's left, and Harper does not interest me very much. I think we could get one of the top 4 CB's with our 1st rounder, and whoever we get there would be much better than Harper, and younger. I don't like the idea of signing a CB.

McMichael is a beast, but as a TE, he plays a position we are not really looking to address. Baker is the starter, and they will either go with Ryan, Pociask, or another blocking TE thru the draft or FA. McMichael is a top 5 TE when on his game, but after the Gates and Gonzales, MOST of the leagues starting TE's are low impact, and are their to occasionally catch a pass, and MOSTLY pass block and run block.

I would much prefer beefing up out OL and DL depth, as well as our CB's, rather than signing someone like McMichael who does not fill a real need for us.

I would absolutely hate this idea. I would much rather get some line depth than go after Mr. wife-beater. Plus TE in our system was barely utilized as a pass catcher so this would make no sense.

Most rookie corners suck. Look at guys like Terrance Newman from the Cowboys, Deangelo Hall (who I see every week down here in the ATL), and those guys were picked in the top 10. Late first round corners like Mike Rumph, Corey Webster (2nd round), and others have been even less reliable. Going with an experienced corner is always better - unless his name is David Barrett. Look how good Dyson was for us last year. Unless you're paying Nate Clements money you're not going to get a top flight corner through FA but a good corner will more than suffice. That is also why getting a consistent pass rush is so important. But if you can't get one of the top CBs in the draft you might as well take a flyer on a late round guy and hope he develops - a la Drew Coleman.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets take Olsen if he's still around come 25. And that would not be the worst move.

Also agree we need a veteran tackle like Colombo or Clement but we might see the Jets draft an OT on the first day as well.

After seeing some of the contrats that these TEs are getting I really doubt we will pay what it takes to sign McMichael..

I think we definitly need to sign a RT and a CB before the draft. I have 2 people in mind for boths spots. For RT Colombo would be my top choice as he is relatively Young and would improve the running game. Mycond choice would to bring back Clement, but if this was the case, I think we would be forced to draft someone for the future. For CB I like both Roderick Hood and Harper. I would actually prefer to sign Haper to a 3 year deal (He's 32, played in Canada for a while) and then draft someone like Josh Wilson (he would be viewed as the perfect CB if he was an inch or two taller) with our last second round pick or with our 3rd. As for McMichael, I wouldn't mind him as the #2 TE, though I would prefer a more well-rounded TE, as I believe Baker is a very good reciever.

Jets | Team interested in McMichael
    Wed, 7 Mar 2007 10:31:09 -0800

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the New York Jets have expressed interest in free agent TE Randy McMichael (Dolphins).

    I hope this happens.

If it does and Jones,Coles,Cotchery,McMichael, and the o-line stay healthy, Chad will be a beast.

So far the Jets, Seahawks and Raiders are showing interest.

His background and the salary he'll command will probably keep him away... but he'd be a nice weapon for Chad, and allow us to run more two TE sets.

Is he a better blocker then Baker? As far as i remember he's not.

Frankly i don't see the upgrade in getting him unless we are going to run two TE sets a lot. He has the ability to be a top TE but he drops the ball to much, and from my memory is a sub par blocker. Plus, i don't want a guy with nicknames like "McDrop, and McWifebeater"

Chris Baker has been nothing but good for us, his stats aren't as high as McMichael because he wasnt the #1 until 06, and unlike in miami, we had a Good QB and 2 solid threats at WR.

Baker had 1 more TD and half as many receptions then Randy in 06. They are the same height, weight, and age [baker is younger by 5 months].
Also, Baker has proven to be more clutch then Randy... We've all witnessed McDrop drop TDs, and Baker come through in big situations.. The Cleveland game, had his TD counted would have been one of the most clutch plays all season.
We don't need McMichael, or his baggage.

Randy McMichael might not be a free agent for long. A day after the Dolphins cut the tight end, four teams -- the New York Jets, Oakland, Denver and Seattle -- were showing interest.

You have to remember, McMichael has played with some horrible QBs. He's a great enough athlete that, with a good QB, he might be considered a top flight TE in the NFL.

I don't know too much about Nick Harper. What does everyone around here think of him?

You know, I'd prefer this over Olsen, by a lot. That pick is better suited for defense, or trading down and picking up other slippers like Blalock...

Well Denver's out after they gave Graham the big contract, so that leaves the Raiders and the Seahawks.

I hope we get him, I think he's better than Baker but either way I don't think Sean Ryan's that great as a backup. We could use as many weapons on offense as we can get.

I'd love to get McMichael, or Eric Johnson if McMichael's price is too far out of reach. Both of them would offer a speedy deep threat that Baker just hasn't shown too often. The only thing that worries me about McMichael is that he has occasionaly shown some inconcistancy with his hands.
