My thoughts exactly at 25 you gotta take the best available CB. I'd honestly even be ok with Anthony Spencer, since I feel he is going to be a freak and give us our outside rushing linebacker. But If he's not there i'd take Ross, Revis, or McCauley. If they are not there then maybe I take olsen but I have visions of becht in my head and its not a good one.
If the JETS don't sign a TE like Randy McMichael which I doubt they will, they probably might pick Olsen with the 25th pick. I have a strong feeling the JETS will take Anthony Spencer the DE/OLB from Purdue with the 25th pick though.
Why do we need an upgrade over a very solid Tight End so badly? To go after a TE in round 1 (or any of our first 4 picks) is a ridiculous IMO... I garuntee one thing. This thread isn't around if Greg Olsen ran a 4.70....
man just get the BPA @ #25... like tanny said we want to go in the draft set. so there shouldnt be a big need for anything.
But we are not, and will not, go into the draft all set. There are still some weak links on this team, and I doubt we sign a player a RT, RG, OLB and CB before free agency. Maybe 1 or 2 of them, and maybe some depth players, but not 4 starters.
to be honest i dont even think there looking for a guard.. from what i read and from what beat writers have said the jets are Satisfied with Brandon Moore. they think e is servicable and cheap. there gonna go defense this year watch.
There is NO way we can go into the draft completely set... There are needs right now at WR, OG, OLB/DE, CB, DL (somewhere)... All of these positions come before Tight End. We'd have to have one hell of a free agent signing period to go into the draft set... In fact, IMO, there's a 99.99999% chance that we don't go into the draft completely set...
The same can be said about draft position for any position on the field, so I do not buy that argument. For every great first round pick, there is a first round bust. For every late round pick, someone is going to become a superstar that everyone missed the boat on. If you feel that Greg Olsen is the best player on the board, you draft him and not care about the history of other tight ends drafted in the first round by the Jets or NFL. If you have fear in the draft due to past choices, your draft will not be as successful as it should be. All it takes is one player to change history. So yes, if you have that fear, you might as well trade away your picks for players currently in the NFL because they are sure things rather than taking a chance on a player that could become great.
Picking a TE day one would make me sick, I don't care how good the guy is. I would be completely shocked if the FO deems a TE as the BAP for the Jets at that point.
i think we should take olsen. not only does he remind me of todd heap but when i was a freshmen he was a senior at one of rival high schools. even though it was high school he just took over the game from the tight end position. he is very athletic and i have a feeling once hes on the jets he is going to bust his ass cause he knows he has nothign to fall back on
This has gone from a topic about a TE that did little in college and had a nice combine to the possibility that he has the possibility of greatness? It's risky enough to go WR or TE in the first round, never mind doing it on a guy who did nothing in college but had a nice combine. Workout warriors are prime bust candidates. Aside from that, it isn't a position of need. IMO, TE's are like FB's. With good scouting, one is as likely to get a good one in the 3rd round as much as in the first. CB's on the other hand, at least good ones that are NFL ready almost have to be first round picks, historically speaking. Sorry, but I don't want to see Brady pick apart our CB's again this year. I can live with Baker. All it takes is one player to change history? It doesn't change trends. First round TE busts are a dime a dozen. Even TE's like Bubba Franks and Wiggins look good for a year, then they are trash can filler the next. The Pats got a very nice looking TE in the third last year. We should do the same.
Alright, so getting a guy that converts 3rd downs and catches TDs like the average WR like say, Dallas Clark/Jason Witten isn't a desire? Come on. The knock on him is the deep ball, well, currently we almost never attempt the deep ball, he'd be perfect for short yardage situations and has the height to be a red zone threat.
What he has and what he does are two different things...yes, he has the abilities and the talent, but he sucks...why does no one look at production anymore? if you can't produce in college, then why would you produce in the NFL?
Spencer at 25 would make me a very happy fan. With the combine he had, I doubt he'll last that long though.
If we were in a position where we really could just keep adding to our offensive repetoire, I'd agree with you. My biggest problem is not Olsen, but rather that players not only of equal or better value will be available, but of these most of them fill a position of need. We don't need another reciever. I don't know if everyone forgot, but our passing game carried our offense most of the way. Our main recievers are good enough for now and aren't a need. Baker included. If we were to pick up another TE for a 2 TE set, I'd say pick up a guy like, well, Anthony Becht; a very solid blocker who complements Baker's catching skills (which are highly underrated in this thread and on this board by some). Go grab a CB, an pass rushing OLB or a G with that pick. The ones who will most likely be available should be higher on the Jets' (or anyone else's) draft board anyway. With the depth of this year's stock of 3-4 OLB's, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's there. There's just a ton of them, and I don't think that OLB/DE is that huge of a need for most teams to spend a first rounder on. I'd say it's at least 50/50 that he's there. I'll tell you this; I'd be much happier with Spencer than with Olsen.
