griffith is a solid FB i liked him in Atl no idea what he would be like here, be we obviously need a FB on the roster....
I'm totally on board with this. I'd rather addres FB through FA then draft. I think it's a big need, but still dwarfed by the holes on the lines. This guy, at a good price, would sure up the backfield.
I think that position will be addressed by a Sean Ryan type of TE. Ryan is a RFA and I think will be gone if we can upgrade that position. Its no secret that Mangini likes players who are versatile , IMO an outright FB is one of the least versatile positions.
Hodgins is a big blocking guy from the last season and Jason Posciak was draftet last year for the FB position. Posciak was the whole last season on the IR, but he might be useful
I do like Griffith, but we didn't really use any of our FB's out of the backfield last year. Is that because they were unable to? Or is it just not part of our offense? Though I do like Griffith, IMO the Jets are going to be looking for a Lorenzo Neal type, not that will find him. But someone who can run well in front of the RB as the lead blocker and play hard-nosed football.
I've wanted Griffith for a while. The only thing is I know very little about his blocking. I want to say it's good because of how effective Atlanta is with running, but thats poor logic. Anyone know how he is as a blocker? He's a damn good runner/reciever for the position I know that.
Lets not be crazy here. Brian Leonard would fit in the Jets system so well. He is ALMOST good enough to be a HB and is pretty good at blocking. With penningtons noodle arm and all the dump passes and check downs he does, this guy could be catching alot of footballs. And we have all seen what he does after he catches the football. With Leonard, opposing teams have to deal with a tough featured back (jones), a very quick and elusive back (washington), and a FB who catches and runs after the catch better then any FB i have ever seen. Sounds like big problems for defenses. I think he is one of the safest picks in the draft due to where he is projected to go, position, he was born and raised in the new jersey/new york area, and leadership.
i loved the idea to get Leonard, but now that we signed Thomas Jones, we're not going to waste our first round pick on another RB/FB, and no way BL is available with our 2nd round pick at 63 (from bears).... we we've got no way of getting him.. too bad, cuz i love the way he plays.
now this is an intelligent man....but i agree, griffin has that versatility, not to mention he is a veteran, which i'd prefer in a fullback...i wouldn't be opposed to drafting a fullback later in the draft and grooming him, but you dont often see rookie fullbacks coming into the league and starting, and there is probably a reason for that
