Early Free Agent Buzz The free agency signing period is about 13 hours old, and the Jets have yet to sign a player. What, you expected a Daniel Snyder-like blockbuster on Day 1? No, the Jets don?t operate that way, but they?re doing their homework, sniffing around the market. Here?s what I?m hearing: * The Jets are showing interest in Cowboys DE Kenyon Coleman. Makes sense. Coleman was only a backup in Dallas, but he was productive and shows potential. He?s big and knows the 3-4 defense. Former coach Bill Parcells probably gave a good recommendation to GM Mike Tannenbaum. Coleman could visit the Jets next week. * Dolphins DE David Bowens is another player on the Jets? radar. Remember, the Jets? new D-line coach is Dan Quinn, formerly of the Dolphins. Bowens is a little small for the 3-4 scheme (6-3, 265), but he has been productive (18 sacks in the last three seasons). Former Dolphins DE Kevin Carter also might intrigue the Jets. * The Jets are reportedly showing interest in Titans RB Chris Brown. The Jets were very interested in Brown last summer when they were trying to replace Curtis Martin. Brown rushed for only 156 yards last season in five games. * There?s word out of the Packers? organization that the Jets are one of the teams showing interest in RB Ahman Green. Green, 30, is a little long in the tooth for a running back and, from what I hear, he?s looking for $5 million a year. After blowing out a quad muscle in 2005, Green had a decent season last year, rushing for 1,059 yards and a 4.0 average. * Because of the Eric Mangini connection, there has been a lot of buzz about the Jets? interest in Patriots LB Tully Banta-Cain. I talked to someone close to Banta-Cain and, while he didn?t dismiss the Jets as a possibility, he said the pass-rushing linebacker doesn?t have the Jets included in his initial round of visits. * Joey Porter to the Jets? Don?t bet on it. There were some rumors about it late last night, but someone familiar with the situation told me it?s highly unlikely to happen. http://blogs.nydailynews.com/jets/
disappointed in the RBs they are looking at, but I doubt the coaching staff is looking at them as full-time starters. I think Shotty is creative enough to keep Leon involved and then have a guy who can move the pile between the tackles. Not sure if Brown or Green is really that kind of runner, unfortunately. No Banta-Cain, no Porter...fine.

Not impressed with any of those names...particularly given the ticket price hikes. With the money we're paying, I expect to see the top names coming through for interviews. As far as I'm concerned, Mangini is the real deal...not sold on Tannebaum. He dragged some shit in here last year, starting with Suggs and Barlow. He hasn't shown me shit yet.
Names are a disaster. For years, teams have spent frivolously on names only to get burned badly. If only Tannenbaum were as crafty as Al Davis, Daniel Snyder, and the intelligentsia running the Minnesota Vikings during the loveboat era, we'd be in business. -X-
clements? he has ethier signed or will sign wiht the niners today. Fed smoot our next best option at cb.
alright im going to the bathroom... when I come back I expect HALF our cap space to be spent in the FA...
damn man! y no porter.....i'm with alot of u guys...the names stink!! plz no chris brown.....PLZ NO!!
Smoot has been terrible since going to Minnesota. He had a great year when it was time to get paid. I don't think he's the guy we need. Clements is bordering on the point where corners skills diminish and looking for a monster payday, which a poor franchise like San Francisco will probably give him. The guy we have to look at is Roderick Hood. He's young, he's quick, and he can return punts in a pinch. There is major upside there. That's something you have to take into consideration sometimes over "names." -X-
Coleman is one of the most intriguing names this offseason. Would absolutely love to see him on the Jets next year.
I'm disappointed with those names too, I would like to see us try to land at least 1 premier free agent with all the cap room we have. However, it's tough to know what Tangini is doing, his plans very rarely leak. The Dyson signing came almost out of the blue if I remember correctly.
I have no problem with bringing in Brown as long as we can bring in some more offensive lineman like Dockery. Brown was a beast in 2004 and is still young...if he stays healthy we have a starting RB for the next 3 years. Would I prefer to grab someone else? Probably, but this guy wouldn't be so bad.
