Im not trying to pass it off as a compliment, Im trying to pass it off as an assessment. And its certainly more accurate than your assessment of Portis, which is laughable. The man has achieved waaaay more success in this league than Vilma....period. theres no arguing that.
Really? What's my assessment of Portis? That he's gotten hurt more? That's about the only thing I've said about Portis, and there is no denying that he was hurt twice last year. Where is my "laughable" assessment of him?
every jets redskin rumor comes from dc, this trade is bullshit and its not going to happen. there is always trade rumors hovering around the skins in the offseason...i know especially cuz i live in the dc area, its painful but i live with it.
The man gained 523 yards last year with a partially dislocated left shoulder incurred in the first series of the preseason. He sprained his left ankle in week 7 against Indy and kept going. He was only shelved for good when his finger got driven into the turf and broken in week 9. I for one would love to see him as our replacement, or a large part of the replacement, for Curtis Martin given that he had 60 of a possible 64 starts before last year and clearly played through considerable pain trying to keep going last year. I can't think of a more fitting replacement.
Yes, he played through pain last year, but the fact remains that he still got injured on several different occasions. I still cringe when I think of Curtis gutting it out and trotting on the field with a bad leg for 10 weeks. Portis is a good RB, don't get me wrong, but getting injured so often has to be a concern. Besides, I don't even think Vilma's going anywhere anyway.
The last season was painful but Curtis was done. To give you an example of what the injuries might mean to Portis: in 1997 Curtis sat out the last 5 games of the season with shoulder and groin injuries that were tremendously painful, with arthroscopic surgery on the shoulder at the end of the season. Bill Parcells decided at that point to make a huge and unorthodox offer sheet to Martin to bring him to the Jets. Most of the money in that contract was guaranteed with Martin holding an option to cancel the last 3 years of the deal and return cash. That's how sure Parcells was that one rash of injuries didn't mean much when you had a back as tough and talented as Martin at the age of 25. The same is likely true for Portis, however Portis has more upside than Curtis did. He's a tough inside runner and can break long gains on virtually any play. He's not a pounder, but like Martin he uses finesse inside and gets very tough yards with regularity.
youre right. I apologize. your boyfriend Ellis made the laughable assessments, you just came riding in to save the day for him but actually addedd no intelligent assessment at all. my bad
You can't even admit you're wrong without some childish jab at me. Boyfriend huh? Real mature. And you wonder why people put you on ignore. My assessment of Portis is that he is a very good RB, that has been injured several times in the last year. There is no debate about the fact that he's been injured. Do I think the trade will happen? No way. If the CS & FO feel it improves the team enough to do it, then so be it. I would support Portis just as much as I support Vilma now if he was on the team. Again, I really don't think there's a chance this trade goes through.
thats what makes me so lovable. I dont think the trade will happen either, that wasnt the argument I was having. Youre assessment is fair enough so I will no longer be a dick
