If that's the case, then Jeter should tell the media he does not want any of the responsibilities that a captaincy entails, and that he'll just be called the captain because it sounds cool.

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF HE HATES A-ROD! What's best for the team is for Jeter to say that he and A-Rod are good friends and they enjoy playing with each other. That's the end of it.

We're not the ones making the sportswriters' jobs easier. Jeter is by not ending this every time he has the chance.

like I said before... a championship is the only thing that will put this A Rod Jeter thing to rest... at these point who said what about who is meaningless... I bet if A Rod went 28 -50 with 7 HRs and 25 rbi's in the playoffs on the way to a championship he could say he walked in on Jeter in a gay 3 way and get away with it

You're totally missing the point on this entire issue. What does A-Rod's ability in the clutch have to do with anything? What does A-Rod being a prick, and Jeter's true relationship mean? They mean NOTHING. The entire argument that's been going on for pages and pages is that Jeter is the captain. The captain should support every single player that wears the same uniform as he does when they are getting destroyed in the media, and do what is best for the team and eliminate all distractions.

This has nothing to do with Jeter and A-Rod as people, or Jeter and A-Rod in terms of baseball ability. That isn't a factor at all. Jeter is the captain, A-Rod is a player on the team that Jeter captains. Every time the discussion comes up about Jeter and A-Rod's relationship, Jeter makes his answers as vague as possible. That allows the speculation to grow, and become even more of a distraction.

A good captain puts his personal feelings aside and, when asked about it in public, says whatever he has to say to make it as little a distraction as possible. Jeter doesn't do that. Jeter makes the story even bigger than it is. It makes it an even bigger distraction for the team.

Forget about "A-Rod is an asshole", or "Jeter is better in the clutch" (I have no idea what that has to do with this, but whatever). It has nothing to do with that. Jeter is the leader, and has to do what's best for the team, regardless of whether it bruises his ego, or is a boldfaced lie. He has to do whatever makes it better for the Yankees. He doesn't do that. A good captain does.

Jeter's a great player, but a bad captain.

    Look it ends with this...

ARod just needs to shut his mouth and not say anything. Whatever he says, sometimes comes baffling, and other times media-overblown. But just do your talking with the bat and glove.

We don't care if he wins an AL MVP this season, at least I don't. It has been 7 years since a World Series! ARod, Mussina, Giambi, all haven't earned their pinstripes, and quite frankly this is ARod's last shot to do so since he's getting the most scrutiny because of his salary. This offseason and last postseason were bad for ARod, and if the Yankees fail again, most notably ARod, I really thin k he'd opt out, he couldn't handle ANOTHER offseason from the fans, media, and questions.

I'm not one of the fans who want ARod to leave, not at all. Quite frankly, their is NO upgrade over ARod, i'd be disappointed if he left, but he just can't handle another offseason if he fails. Their isn't one player out there i'd take over ARod at 3rd, i'd only glance at Aramis Ramirez, but that's it. He's a great player, we all know that, he'll go down as one of the best of all-time. And today he's one of the Top 3 players in baseball, I LIKE the guy...

But one more F-UP in the postseason and he'd be through in New York, he knows that, we know that, the Yankees know that.

David wright didn't exactly light the World on fire after he signed his big deal and he wasn't good in postseason so let's see how he handles the pressure of a big contract long term.

ARod is a better all-around player than Wright, ARod is arguably the BEST all-around player in baseball Shade, you gotta agree. Wright is good don't get me wrong, but not in the class of ARod yet, he's still young and wouldn't doubt that Wright will become a great player, but not ARod status.

Ramirez and Zambrano for ARod, most likely.

Their is no upgrade at 3rd over ARod in baseball, losing him would be a huge blow to the Yankees, but i'd look at Ramirez as the only guy who could do well, wouldn't go crazy over him, that's just me.

I'm getting really tired of arguing with you guys. You claim somehow I'm making incongruent arguments, yet all you're doing is repeating the same bullshit line over and over again, that I've said quite clearly I disagree with.

It is NOT Derek Jeter's responsibility as a Captain to make ARod's life easier. It is NOT Derek Jeter's responsibility to put this issue to rest.

ARod created it. Period. Whether you want to come to terms with that or not is your decision. Let's say, for argument's sake, that one of your coworkers said to the person who writes the company newsletter that you were an insignificant member of the company. That when a job needs to get done, no one even relied on you to do anything. Now that story gets printed for the rest of the company to see.

Are you pissed off? If you say no, you're a friggin liar.

It's the same shit, whether you want to agree with me or not.

So what's the big deal then, right? Well, let's say you later become a supervisor, and that the person who made that comment is now your underling.

Do you forget what he said, and be a "good professional leader?" If you say yes, you are either sensitive enough to give birth, or you're a bald faced liar.

BTW: The whole thing about the clutchness or range or whatever when it came to Jeter/ARod was in response to the silly theory that the Yankees would somehow have been better off with Jeter at second and ARod at short.

I think you're wrong in that statement. If you phrase it that there is no replacement for ARod, at the top of his game, anywhere on the field, then yes, you are right.

But after his stint at third, defensively, I'd take Wright. ARod is the best shortstop in the game, but he isn't playing there.

If he were hitting like he we know he can, and playing third even competently, there would be no equal to ARod's value across the league, at any position. But Alex has not been that player of late.

instead of arguing the same point over and over, lemme try to switch it up....in your opinion, what are the responsibilities of the captain of a team?

The same bullshit line is being repeated over and over again because you fail to recognize it. It doesn't matter what Jeter feels about A-Rod. He's the captain of the fucking team, it's his JOB. If he doesn't want the responsibility, if he doesn't want to put his ego aside for the better of the team, then he should lose the title.

We know A-Rod created it. No one has said that A-Rod is in the right and only Jeter is in the wrong. You may try and see it that way to further prove your point, but everyone knows that's not the case. They're both in the wrong. The difference is, one is the leader who's job is to publicly support the team and do whatever he has to to eliminate media distraction. The other doesn't have that responsibility.

Of course I'd be a "good professional leader" in public. In private, I can hate him more than anyone. In public, if I'm the leader, I do what's best for the company. Jeter has to do what is best for the team in the public spotlight. If he has to lie, then he better do it.

Whatever. We see totally different viewpoints on the subject, and quite frankly, I am tired of arguing about every damn thing on this site.

Your point is not lost on me. I just feel it's wrong. End of story.

Titles are team awards, we're talking about leadership which is an individual quality. At no point did I compare their careers however I will say this... Biggio is the best second baseman of his generation, Jeter can not say the same. Biggio not only stepped aside for Beltran to take CF towards the end of his career, he also came out from behind the plate a few years into his career becuse the Stros though it was better for the team, and he didn't complain about it at all.

But I digress, Jeter should have moved from SS because Arod is clearly a better SS and it would have been in the best interest of the team to have the best defensive player on the team playing the most important defensive position. Take the man-love for Jeter out of your equation and realize that having a better HOF player in the prime of his career playing the most important spot on the diamond makes logical sense.

I disagree. I think Jeter had yet another chance to squash it today and once again took a pass.

Great question... would love to hear Alio's take on that.

By the way... if I were a Yankee fan I'd want Posada as the team captain. Catchers almost seem like a natural fit for that spot in baseball because they are involded in calling every play and they are in constant communication with their teamates and the head umpire. Posada has shown that he will stick up for his teamates on and off the field. He knows when to speak up (supporting aRod and Giambi) and when to bite his tongue (RJ). He has been a Yankee for a long time and he's connected to the Championship teams. He's not the best player but he looks like a selfless leader to me.
