Vilma is our defensive leader. Portis is an aging RB. RB are dime a dozen and we really don't need one anyway.

    the guy is 25, 6400 yrds in 5 seasons, 4.7 ypc...that is not a dime a dozen
of the 3 skins rumors...i'd rank them
    1. portis for our #37
    2. betts/#6 for vilma/#25
    3. portis for vilma

i'm not that attached to vilma...while i think he will be great and a stud in the league....the guy didnt step up and make a single play in our defense last season we could find another dime a dozen guy to do just as much at mlb
gotta give up alot to get alot

Portis is far from aging, however you make a good point Rob.

RB's are very easy to come by, alot easier then defensive stop gaps and leaders.

Wouldn't do it. Not because Portis is a "me-guy" because I don't think that way at all.

Portis' build as a RB worries me a little, he's very long for a RB, and you usually want your guy to be more compact. He's had to carry a very heavy workload during his career, and he's had a few injuries along the way. He's still young at 25 (26 next season), but he's got more on his legs than many 25 year old RBs.

I'd rather our new RB have fresh legs, just like the rest of our franchise.

our defensive leader huh? very impressive considering our defense was among the worst in the NFL....Portis will turn 26 at the start of the season....vilma will turn 26 couple months after the season. I youre gonna post with your green glasses on, at least try to get your facts straight

I voted yes. can you explain why you think theres no chance in hell? Or is it just because Vilma is a jet so he must be great. Even though he doesnt fit our system and sucked a gigantic egg last year

a stop-gap is a term used for a temporary solution type of player. I assume you meant hes some stud in the middle of our defense. He is not.

When is the last time Portris played every game in a season. I think he was in Denver right? That would raise a little doubt on my part on pulling the trigger on this deal. Maybe that's just me though.

Would not hesitate. Vilma doesn't fit the scheme. Portis is still young, and when he's healthy, def. top 5 running back in the league. And he broke his hand. No ligament tears. Not to mention we'd also get the #6 pick. I wouldn't jump on the Branch bandwagon, but def. Jamaal Anderson. There's our Richard Seymour. We did pick Schlegel in the third round. I mean he has the physical measurements for ILB in the 3-4. Slide Hobson to the inside and with the first second rounder pick Moses or Spencer for OLB. Before you people go nuts. I don't think Schlegel is better than Vilma. But fits the system better. I mean we're tryin to be like the pats anyway, aren't we?

I wouldn't consider this trade a no brainer but due to who would be available at 6 in the draft I would have to say yes. Hobson and Barton would do well in the middle for us and Portis would be a considerable upgrade at RB. Add some quality on the Dline at 6(or Quinn even if Tanny thinks he could be the guy) and a edge rusher with one of our 2nd round picks and I think you have greatly improved the makeup of our team and filled alot of needs.

agreed. Most of the possible scenarios that people have proposed after the trade sem to improve the team. And in my opinion thats the idea, not making sure we're loyal to Jon Vilma as some people have suggested, whatever that means

im not for this trade yet..however, if RB's are so easy to come by, then how come we dont have one yet that can carry the ball at least 75% of the time?
