This is possibly one of the last things i'd want to see the jets use their first pick on considering all the other needs we have, but according to nfl.com they have two mock drafts up and both of them have us taking a te with the 25th pick. I really hope that we are not thinking about drafting te with our first pick. How do you guys feel about this?

Pete Prisco projects us takin Greg Olsen from Miami http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9999370

& Clark Judge has us pickin Zach Miller from Arizona State

that would be a terrible decision..1st round TEs are Gambles and the jets have not had any success with them

Do those mock draft guys even watch football? Our TE is definatly not our biggest need, and considering the lack of success we've had with 1st rd TEs, Tangini knows they'd be booed out of the Javits center.

I thought the same thing when I saw those drafts and BOTH of them gave us TEs... There is NO WAY they saw a lot of 2006 Jets football.

I would have no problem with the Jets taking a TE in the first round. What happened with prior regime's means absolutely nothing with the history of drafting tight ends. Mangini watched BB draft 2 tight ends in the first round (Graham, Watson) and Thomas in the third round this past year. He has learned the value of having a tight end who has speed, can catch and can also block. It creates big mismatches for the defense.

How do you defend Ben Watson? Can you play him man to man? Nope. So you have to play a zone on him and this keeps safties in the middle of the field which gives the Pats recievers more room to work outside the numbers. Can you imagine how much easier it would be for Chad to work that no huddle if he had Cotchery, Coles, Baker and let's say Ben Watson? They could use those 4 players to line up in so many different formations without having to sub.

The Pats have shown you can never have enough tight ends and I full expect that Tannenbaum will address the tight end position either in free agency or early in the draft so that we have two starting caliber options. With that being said I still feel that we have more pressing needs on both sides of the lines.

There's no point to drafting a TE in round 1. Baker's fine as a #1 and Sean Ryan's a good blocker. The only TE I would've taken over the past few years was Vernon Davis, but that's because the guy really looks to be THAT good as an offensive playmaker.

No way taking Olson in round one, maybe 2nd or 3rd, at 25 he's a reach IMO

There aren't any Tight Ends worthy of being taken inside of the top 50 picks.

I don't have a problem taking a tight end in the 1st round of the draft if he's worth using that pick on. However this draft there is no player of that caliber where it's worth taking a tight end over a position of need.

How about Zach Miller and Greg Olsen? They are two solid guys who should go late 1st-2nd especially if they work out well.

But we don't need a TE inside the Top 150 picks.

    TE in the first round?

did we learn nothing from the Kyle Brady draft pick?
do we want another Jets fan riot in MSG on draft day?

Mock drafts are a bunch of BS. After the first 5 picks, they fall apart. Even last year, Bush was the consensus 1st overall pick until the morning of the draft... so regardless of whether or not signing m williams first overall was a good decision, the mock drafters had it all wrong. What does that tell you?

Not this crap again. So we shouldnt be looking to draft a DT in the 1st rd either, cause D Rob is a bust. If we thought like you, in a few years we wont be drafting any position because sooner or later were gonna have busts at each position.

Olsen and Miller are both good, but one of them will be available in the 2nd. No need to take em in the 1st when we can get em in ther 2nd.

    Thank you.

Think the Bengals should have stayed away from Palmer because of Smith? Or the Chargers from Rivers/Eli because of Ryan Leaf?

It's the same kind of logic. There WILL be busts in the draft, it happens. Olsen and Miller are very talented TEs.

All that said, I don't really want them with our first round pick. It's just a totally different reason, our past busts at the position don't matter, at all. They have NO significance. This is a completely different regime, coaching staff, and Miller/Olsen are completely different prospects. It's the same as saying "we shouldn't go after Turner because of Lamont." Not the same kind of people, even if they are similarly talented. Like I said, our past busts at a certain position don't matter.

Put it this way...would Jets fans hesitate and boo if the Jets went Manning over Leaf because of O'Brien over Marino? Judge the prospects on their own merits, not memorable Jets busts.
