You are so full of shit!!!! I have been anti-Herm since 2003. You are a lying sack. If you want to accuse me of something prove it. Show me where I posted support for Herm? You are a liar. That fact has been proven many times.
Size is far more important than speed in the 3-4. All three of those guys have more traits that suit the 3-4 than Vilma has.
Well, in terms of production, Rhodes is already the leader of the defense. And it's not like Vilma is Ray Lewis when it comes to being a "vocal leader".
i really don't believe any trade rumors involving Vilma, just can't see it happening. hes young, hes a leader, and a workhorse
Yea last year rhodes was more productive, but we were also playing pretty shitty teams. I watched Rhodes get left in the dust quite a few times. Lets see how he does against Solid QB-WR tandums this year before we crown him.
If your argument is that we were playing pretty shitty teams, and that's the reason Rhodes was arguably the top safety in the NFL, then it speaks volumes about Vilma's lack of productivity. I don't remember many specific instances where Rhodes was left in the dust, but I do remember Vilma making the bonehead play of the year in the playoff game against New England, where he tried to strip the ball from Brady instead of sacking him, arguably shifting the momentum of the entire game.
There are only two plays I can remember where Rhodes clearly F'd up... One was in the game against Buffalo in NJ...He bit super hard on a run and they torched us deep with Lee Evans... The only other play was in Miami where he missed a tackle on McMichaels, but that was at the goal line and they probably would have scored anyways.
if the trade doesn't happen, it won't have to do with cap ramifications. Neither team would take a big cap hit.
we were playing against shitty QBs, except brady and manning. Its a little easier to hold down the secondary when your playing Loseman, Harrington, Kitna, Walter, Carr, and a few other bums who i cant even remember their names
This stupid thoeretical trade is freakin stupid. Here is why. The problem with our run game is the Offensive line not the running backs. The problem with the Defense again is the horrible defensive line. So where on earth does this trade address any of the Jets weaknesses's? All it does is give us a higher draft pick which is obviously good. It does not strengthen our run game appreciably and we are giving up our second best defensive player for their 2nd. string running back.................this trade sucks. If this were the trade as is, I would not do it in a million years.
That doesn't explain his high sack and FF total for a safety. Point is, Rhodes doesn't have to step up to be the leader ahead of Vilma when he's already done that.
In a 4-3 with some big bodies in front of him, Vilma is a dominant force who makes game changing plays.
Vilma is a very smart guy who studies a ton of film. Trust me his problems in the 3-4 defense were not mental. His troubles were mostly physical. Because of his size, he struggled with taking on then shedding the blocks of the guards. The 3-4 does not cover up their ILBs; they have to big and strong enough to take on d-linemen almost like a d-linemen would. This past year Vilma was caught in situations where he would either take on the block and loose more often than not or try to guess which side of the o-lineman the RB would cut of and run around the block. With the latter sometimes he guessed right and sometimes he guessed wrong. When you also consider the added traffic on his side created by Kimo Von "Old" Hoffen was getting blown off the ball on almost every snap, it's obvious why this is not the best system for Vilma. Honestly, Vilma played a whole lot better than I thought he would and a whole lot better than I think many other LBs his size w/ Von "Old" Hoffen in front of them would.
It's a tough call... It really is. Betts/#6 for Vilma/#25 is about the same as Betts/#19 for Vilma. Vilma was a great pick at #12... so he'd be dropping a couple spots. We'd then have to pay a #6 a pretty good penny. I think I'd say stay put but I am not sure. It really depends what we see at #6. One possibility, pure speculation, and I'll get blasted for it is getting that #6 and then dealing it with our #37 for #3... and getting that WR from Georgia Tech (Calvin........... It slips my mind). I know, "we don't need a WR".. BS. However, while I'd love to have him, I don't think he's worth giving up all of that. Honestly, I think we can sign someone like Rhodes, and keep Vilma and our #25. I like Betts, because he's good out of the backfield, but he likes to fumble.
Vilma is a great linebacker who just needs to find himself in this scheme. He had an off year because he was learning a new defense. He's a team leader and the soul of the D. Disclaimer: "Actual performance may vary without the presence of an All Pro Nose Tackle".
i would hate this trade. Ok, IMO ladell betts isn't that good. I would rather go with a drafted running back, like a michael bush, kenny irons or tony hunt. Furthermore, we shouldn't trade vilma. He was a star until we changed to the 4-3. He could definitely use another year in the system to get a grasp of it. He could also use a bigger D-Line and a RE that isn't constantly targeted. A lot of ppl are blaming the bad run defense and other defensive problems on vilma. And i believe this is simply because he was the star of the defense earlier. The real blame for the defensive problems was the d-line. They got no push especially from the RE which was a constant source of weakness. And, ladell betts will NOT i repeat NOT solve our running problems. We need better run blocking!!!!!! what the hell would ladell betts do behind a clogged up line that leon washington cant do. We need either another G to get some better push or simply more experience and technique when it comes to run blocking. And like it or not, Vilma is a LEADER. A team leader is not simply the guy who produces the most, but one who the players look up to and follow. and that's what vilma is. get some more beef on the d-line and give vilma another year in a system that is so different that what he is used to. This would be a HORRIBLE trade. MLB is a critical position to a 3-4 and we'd be losing that. The guy is young! give him a little time.
