Hi everyone. Im a skins fan and there is a rumor going around a couple skins forums. Apparently someone claims to have talked to George Michael who is this irritating reporter who works for the redskins. He said that several teams, include the Jets, have approached the skins regarding a trade for Ladell Betts. The alleged trade goes like this:

Skins trade Betts and our #6 overall pick to the Jets for Vilma and your #25 pick. We are all debating the merits of this trade (if there is any validity to the rumor). How would you all, as Jets fans, feel about this trade?

Are there other "fair" trades you would be interested in? Given our teams' track records, i think its safe to assume we will engage in some sort of offseason trade with eachother.

I made this a new thread for you. I think it merits discussion, and I know you are not able to start threads yet.

I doubt this is going to happen. Tangini is smarter than that. Vilma is worth more than Betts and #6 combined.

Same thing I put in the other thread, you're guaranteed to have Jamaal Anderson or Gaines Adams on the board at that point, maybe both. Add in Betts and I think I would pull the trigger and for the record I am usually dead set against any trading Vilma ideas.

i want nothing to do with this trade. Vilma is a big part of this defense, and his production will improve as he adjusts, but countless guys on our D talk about his command on the field in helping others be where they need to be. the jets can do much better.

I wouldn't say that. We all love Vilma, but is he best suited for the 3-4?

That's a really, really tough decision.

I think I would do it if it was one of our second rounders instead of first rounder....

I'm just attached to Vilma though :(

That's why I would never make it as a gm, I get too attached to players......

We have 30 Million dollars of cap space.

I actually think this trade makes some sense. We could get Alan Branch to play NT, the key to a 3-4 defense plus we could get a starting RB.

The only thing I don't like about the trade is giving up 25th overall...I think the early second rounder should be good enough.

Having said all of that...I do NOT think this trade will happen.

Sounds like a smart trade for both teams...if true, I'd pull the trigger...

....definately would help us with our dline and give us a good rb for years....i doubt it happens due to cap ramifications, but in a 'madden' world I would give it some serious consideration.

im with you, besides, there is good possibility that Vilma is shifted to OLB so he know longer has to take on an Olineman head on

Good possiblity? Where did you hear this?

OLB are supposed to be even bigger than ILB in the 3-4

i would only do this if adrian peterson is sitting there@ #6...but even then im not sure ..i cant imagine fielding a defense next year without vilma. and than that would make betts useless to us.. and if we do this deal betts would be our starting running back . im not high on betts.

You have a point. But we dont know that yet. He can be good or he can be average. But were not going to know untill we get a solid NT. He can either excell, be average or even horrible. When we get a solid NT, then well find out but Vilma's leadership is a big Key in our D that id rather find out later than trade him now and wonder the "coulda shoulda woulda" later.

there are so many variables at work here, but if I'm the jets and I think Carriker won't fall to 25, then I've got to think about the next best 3-4 fit and that's Alan Branch.

Then I've got to decide if Vilma can indeed play MLB or can be moved outside.

Then I've got to decide whether or not I think Ladell Betts is a starting caliber RB.

I think Betts is not, I think Vilma can do either of those things and I think Carriker will fall to 25. Therefore I don't do the trade.

The way I look at it is this. 6th pick in the draft you shore up the defensive line for years to come whether it's Jamaal Anderson, a guy who could be our version of Seymore or Alan Branch how is not a nose tackle, he's too tall but is still a great prospect, you trade up with 37 and maybe a 2nd or 3rd next year and get Patrick Willis to replace Vilma. Someone like Lamaar Woodley with the other 2nd rounder. You get your defensive line help, an adequate replacement for Vilma, a pass rusher and a running back who rushed for over 1,000 yards avering 4.7 a carry and caught 53 passes. Sentimentallity for Vilma aside, this would be a good move for the Jets.
