http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/powerrankings After being ranked 8th after wk 17, now the jets are snubbed and brought all the way down to 15th. Teams like the Broncos, Bengals, Steelers, Jaguars, and Giants are all ranked ahead of them. The Jets get NO friggen respect even after a season like the one they had. Pats of course are up at #2, writer says because they have so much cap room to improve. HELLO! Don't the jets have a ton of cap space too? Aren't they coming off a great season? No respect at all.
This means nothing. Pete Prisco is one of the least intelligent writers out there. The patriots are getting old as a team. Vrabel, Bruschi, Colvin, Harrison, Corey Dillon. I wouldn't have a problem if he put the Jets 32nd because that list means nothing. Those guys that make those lists only rank based on perception and not reality.
Just remember where we were on that list last year. We were probably down near 29-31. Think about how far we have come and also how much farther we can move up next season.
With a possible QB controversy brewing, who can blame him for ranking us lower? Rankings mean nothing, btw. It's the standings that matter.
It'd be nice not to have to use the "rankings don't matter...we're better off as underdogs anyway" card for once. Seems like we do that every year. It is indeed correct that these rankings are all theoretical and have some bias in them...but you'd think we'd get alil more respect considering the great season we just had.
Which I cannot understand, considering the die hard/passionate fan base, huge media market..and "Underdog" mentality(Similar to the red sox) You'd think the media would love us, and hop on the bandwagon. Instead.. they bash us every chance they get.
Never understood the hate. For a team that has not won anything in 38 years, they sure love to hate us.
cnnsi is a huge waste of time IMO. I've yet to find a good, respectful and insightful article on that page, and with that crew of writers, I highly doubt I will...
With the luck we had with injuries and schedule this year, it's hard to believe we won't take a giant step back next year.
I think it will take two years to regain our media respect after our 4-12 season in 2005. This past season gained us some respect. If we're solid again in 2007, then I think they will finally take notice...
the media had a hard on for us late in the year cuz there were really no NFC teams worth talking about. doesnt surprise me now that the offseason starts they bash us. then again the only time we ever got respect was because curtis martin played for us. then again i would say were prolly 12-16th in the league. weve still got our work ahead of us.
So what. If I learned anything last year, it doesn't matter what the experts say about the draft, about our pre-season prospects or even our chances in an individual game. They're more often wrong than right. These guys write this stuff so you'll read it. It's not worth the paper (or screen) it's printed.
Giant step? I don't think so. Step back? A chance for sure. We will play a tougher schedule based on our where we ended the season, but I believe we only play two tougher opponents than we would have had we finished in the cellar. All the other games are either vs. AFC East opponents or the same intra or inter conference divisions as the rest of our division plays. In '06, we didn't even fully take advantage of our last place '05 finish in the AFC East because we split the games vs. the rival cellar dwellars (Cleveland and Oakland). And while our '07 NFC divisional rival will be the NFC East vs. the NFC Central in '06, I still think it's hard to project with any certainty the caliber of competition year to year.
