I was watching the NFL Network and they were showing the AFC practice today. and low and behold, there is our own #22 taking snaps at cornerback. Good for Justin. He will probably get toasted but no big deal. I will have much more interest in the game now that it looks like he will play some on d. I really hope year 2 with Mangini does wonders for him at the corner position. He has all the tools he just needs to get his technique down. Represent the Jets well in Honolulu Justin!
if he does anything i hope he is asking questions and picking the otther dbs brains.. kobe did and it worked wonders or him.
He has two main deficiencies as a defensive back: 1. His tackling technique is sloppy, so any play in front of him is an adventure. 2. He totally loses his man when he has to turn and run with him, so he spends a lot of time making up ground and a well-thrown ball usually toasts him or forces a pass interference/holding type call. It'd be really nice if one of the all-pro CB's there took pity on him and actually told him what's wrong with his tactics. Cause he has the tools if he can ever get his techniques down.
That doesnt mean anything. Rich Eisen kicked some fieldgoals, do you think he will play kicker as well? lol
Here's my take: Belichick: "Justin...I think you could be a really good cornerback, if the Jets just believed in you and gave you a chance." Milller: "That's what I said!" Bel: "You know, Assante Samuel was right where you are now a few years ago." Miller: "Really?" Bel: "Yeah, but we coached him up...you know we really know how to develop young cornerbacks. Say, when is your contract up with the Jets?"
Go COCKS!!!!! I think Justin Miller can still reach his potential at cb...there is no reason to lose hope after his second season.
Last time Bellichick coached the Pro Bowl he was wearing green, only game as HC as an NYJ. As long as Justin Miller doesn't blow out a knee or something, this week can only help him, being around some of these guys.
Every Cornerback gets burned in this game. No blitzing allowed, no jamming at the line for corners, receivers get to run whatever route they want and QB's have 10 minutes to throw. This means nothing for Miller if he plays Corner. What will count is this offseason, if Mangini can get Miller to be solid and get him to play to his potential, then thats a start...
