He barely had any catches when he was in college when he was the starter, and he barely had any catches so far in his NFL career, so maybe you should provide your secret videos of him actually catching the ball, because he has never shown it in a game
The scouting reports on Turner coming out of college were that he had bad hands. That's why he went late in the draft despite being a finalist for the Doak Walker award twice after his junior and senior years. 32 NFL teams looked at him and decided that despite 4.42 speed, proven durability, great size and an amazing ability to not fumble that he was still not likely to be a great NFL back. The reason? His inability to catch the ball coming out of a pro set. Small college had nothing to do with it. Walter Payton came out of Alcorn State and wound up as a top 5 pick.
hey Sherlock Holmes... What facts support this irronious claim... Are you privy to some inside info, are you working for the NFL, are you a freelance scout, or is this something else you just regurjitated from some obscure website or 4 year old article... Coach Ellis "Hatin' on faders since before it was cool"
I bother to think about the game. If you did you'd realize that backs with Turner's other qualities don't go late in the 5th round for no reason. Then you'd go looking to see what ALL the draft profiles of Turner said going into the draft. Then you'd look at what Turner has actually done in his NFL career despite the opportunity of working in an offense that likes to throw the ball to the backs. Then you'd come to the conclusion that Turner is not a very good pass catcher and is unlikely to do well in an offense that throws the ball to the backs a lot, like the Jet's modified west coast. At least that's what I did.
there are arguments to every facet of what you base your claim on... Turner went in the 5th for a reason... Just like curtis Martin went in the 3rd round for a reason... and became the 4th leading rusher of all time... Or Terrell Davis, he went in the 5th Round, too, but let me guess... that was an error in judgment by 32 teams, despite the fact that he was a great back. Garrison Hearst, the list goes on... And your claim that he "isn't a good fit for the Jets Modified West Coast System" in absurd as well. Not only was he drafted by a team that's running that sytem, it would make sense that he comes here... there is very little for him to learn in a "New Offense", it's an offense he's familiar with. Do you think they would have drafted him if they felt he couldn't step in and be productive in a role similar to LT's in that offense. No I did not say he could be LT, before you get your wheels turning, and twist something into something I did not say. The best part, all the teams looking or rumored to be looking at him, are offenses that throw to the back as part of thier offense... but he's not a good fit in that type of offense... you're becoming the Charlie Brown teacher on this one... WUAH WUAH WUAH WUAH... Trust me, quit while your ahead... Coach Ellis "Poppin Pompus Pimples Like it's Nobodies Buisness"
Amazing how you only read parts of posts that you think you can win a point on, and forget about the rest... Now I know your a Chump Deciple... Do you wear a funny little mustache as well, and spu the same psycho babble? Are you on the same beat a dead horse route as they are?
Sorry dude, but kick returners don't need great hands. Justin Miller, who can't hold onto an interception, nor field a punt, is one of the best kick returners in the NFL. That means nothing. You can't just sub in Washington on every third down. That becomes not only redundant, but obvious as to what the team is doing. One of the keys to our offense is the variety of packages, and by bringing out Turner because he can't catch, wouldn't help the system that NEEDS versatility.
ok while i do feel as though i'm being attacked unnecessarily for my views...i'm not opposed to mike turner, i'm opposed to spending a first day pick for him given what we [the fans] know of him. this whole thread and board for that matter is speaking from the fans perspective. forgive me for not being in FO and speaking from thier perspective - in regards to the amount of credit i give the FO i give them all the respect in the world. This is thier careers and thus far in 1 year they have displayed noticable progress. I have no reason that what ever decision they make will be the right one. Leave the hostilties at the door as we both have the same goal in mind, success for our team, i could careless if we gave up our whole draft for him if he meant going to win the superbowl. so while We can hope and supposed until the day is night in the end we we only hope for the best possible outcome as fans
Uh. Read again. I said "it doesnt mean he has great hands" and now you're trying to correct me by saying "that doesnt mean he has great hands"? Ohkayh.
we would not be in this situation if we just paid lamont....to many needs on the team to give up a #1
Why is it that Lamont Jordan is in like every post? Especially since many are missing alot of factors that prove Lamont was a damn valuable player as a healthy full time RB.
We're never going to know what Jordan would have done with the Jets. The Raiders are like the elephant's graveyard for runningbacks. Guys go there and just kind of fade-away in whatever cockamamie scheme Al Davis has running at the moment. Gruden at least had a clue, although looking at Tampa Bay the last few years it seems as though the same wasting disease in the backfield may be starting there also. I was unhappy that the Jets didn't keep Jordan because I knew Curtis was on his last legs. That doesn't necessarily mean Jordan would have been a lot more than a piece in an RBBC here though.
Hey, I got this cleared by Petrozza earlier. I see tons of old time Jet fans here. What do you think about chatting with an all time great? On Feb 1 (this Thursday) at 1:00 pm, sportsgist.com will be hosting Joe Klecko in an echat. I think it would be pretty cool if the die hard Jetsfans got an opportunity to ask Klecko a question. He is a cool guy and will talk about the past, present, and future of the Jets. Mark it on you calendar!
No we wouldn't be here if we had Lamont Jordan, we would have had another 4-12 season after Chad tore another muscle in his shoulder when he was sacked on a play where Lamont decided he didn't feel like pass blocking.
I like Turner, but I hate trading a first rounder for an unproven RB who was drafted in the 5th round and still hasn't proven a ton. I loved him in college, and he certainly has the ability to be a very good back, but I wouldn't want to trade a first round pick. I'm on board for a 2nd rounder, preferably the later one, as I think that trading a 2nd rounder for Turner is a legitimate risk.
There's no attack... you should stop trying to read between the lines and make more of what said than what actually was said/typed. I'm not above anyone... I'm sorry my opinion is different than yours... and thats why I'm here, because it's a place to discuss OPINIONS... I checked my baggage at the door... you should do the same. Ellis
