Second one first, you feel he would give us a better chance to get to the Super Bowl based on what? A guy who never played a game gives us a better chance than a guy with a wealth of playoff experience and a winning record? Based on what? And it's easy to say you want to "let the chips fall where they may so we can see what we have" because it's not your job on the line if the guy fails. The ones who have to make that decision are in a different situation. If they bench a QB who has proven he can get them to the playoffs in favor of a guy who craps out a la Glenn Foley or Browning Nagle, they are gone. So I trust them to make the better decision more than I trust you.
Look I doubt that Man & Tan want to come on with egg on there faces for passing on JC & instead drafting KC. That being said that means that KC will be given every chance possible in mini & TC to uproot CP cause otherwise the media will want to know why draft a player in the 2nd round & not play him. Actually the onus will be on KC to prove he can heave the rock making all the throws that are required to be a upper scale QB in the NFL
The 2nd round isn't that big of a deal, especially when we had two first round picks. Again, at the time they were using any means to load up on QBs because the position was completely unsettled. Pennington was a #1 pick who now has been to the playoffs three times, is in the prime of his career and can run the offense like a coach on the field, so I don't see how the fact that Clemens was a #2 draft pick really helps him all that much. The better guy will win the job, just as was the case in 2006.
To us a 2nd round draft choice especially drafting as hi as we did cause when U look back at our previous 2nd round flops you will vomit. Also the egg will come from passing on JC for KC who turns out to ba another NYJ 2nd rd floperoo
This regime isn't concerned with past 2nd round flops from the 80s, it isn't their problem. We also passed on Matt Leinart because without an O-line it doesn't matter who your QB is. But even you knew that, right champ? Oh, wait.....
I feel that Clemens has the best shot to get us to the superbowl based on the fact that I do not think Pennington can beat the elite Defenses and quarterbacks when it matters. I trust that Schott and Mangini knew what they were doing when they drafted Clemens and I belive what Peter King said about Clemens being ready your shot is coming. Hopefully sooner than later. I would like too see him in there with Pennington on the bench to help him make the transition.
So what you feel is based on what you think. Ok. People were saying the same thing about Peyton Manning until a week ago, good thing for the Colts that they didn't listen to any of it.
Peyton Manning and Chad Pennington are not in the same league. Are you honestly going to compare Pennington to Peyton Manning now? Do you see the place Manning had to lift his game to so the colts could get past the Patriots? Do you think Chad would have been able to pull that off? We are talking about one of the Greatest Quarterbacks of all time and Mediocraty at it's best in Pennington. If Peyton had all those weapons and it took him this long to slay the dragon then what kind of team do you think the Jets have to put around Pennington for him to do so? Once the Colts got behind do you think Chad could have made those plays to get them back in the game. We saw what chad could do once he got behind in the first round of the playoffs this year!
Yes, I'm comparing the two because the same criticism was leveled at both and both have been chasing New England for the past few years. Once again, it's not all about the QB rallying his team from down big, what happened when Pennington and Manning met in the playoffs? We won 41-0 and I didn't see Manning leading any comebacks that day. The point is both QBs have been to the playoffs enough times to prove they belong there. Once you get there it's a matter of getting a home game or getting some breaks to get you the rest of the way. If the Colts had gone back to the drawing board after losing in the playoffs with Manning a few times, they wouldn't be in the Super Bowl now.
Peyton Manning has been chasing the Demons in his head. What we saw this year with the colts should have happened years ago. Better late than never. We are chasing the Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Steelers, Jaguars and Bengals. All teams with more Talent than us in the Afc. Peyton Mannings skill has never given the colts reason to go back to the drawing board. If Pennington could do what Peyton could do you really think any sane football fan would be calling for his head. The whole playbook can be used when he is under center unlike Pennington. Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer won Superbowls. Would you say the same about them and be as confident as you are in Pennington? Have they proven they should be starters?
The point being there are all kinds of factors in a playoff game--QB, home field, a refs call, a kicker, etc.
Sorry, I have to break this up because you're all over the map. We're chasing three teams we finished ahead of? What are you basing that on? Half the Bengals are going to jail. There aren't any sane football fans calling for Pennington's head now. Tell you what. Bring Brad Johnson at his peak and Trent Dilfer at his peak into camp to compete with the 2007 Chad Pennington for an open competition and Chad wins the job by the second pre-season game.
Just out of curiosity, if Chad gets his arm strength back to original form, before the injuries, would this argument still be going on?
Bring Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Rothilisberger, Phillip Rivers, Steve Mcnair and all the quarterbacks who are on teams in the Afc right now that have a realistic shot at winning the superbowl next year and Chad will loose that training camp competition after the first passing drill. Let chad compete against these guys in the playoffs next year in a windy Giants Stadium for a home playoff game and and I bet he will loose that competition as well.
Well we've already beaten Manning's Colts in the playoffs at windy Giants Stadium with Chad at QB, so you've lost the first bet already. McNair is on his last legs, Rivers has never won a playoff game and who knows what Rothlisberger will do now with a new coach and no Bus? You're reaching, man. I'm not saying Chad is the best QB in the league, but you tell me realistically who we could get that would do a better job. And it's lose, not loose.
