You never know. The way the team is now, you're probably right. However, FA has not even started yet, and the needs of this team could shift dramatically in that period. I believe the front office said their goal is to be very flexible in the draft....
This team is in no position to discard any position. I would agree that Wr isn't a major need right now but more firepower to the O certainly is IMO. This Bowe guy has superstar written all over him. If the FO thinks he is the BPA when they are on the clock, it would be a big mistake not to take him because we think we are set at WR.. The biggest surprise to me in this mock is that Moses has fallen out of the first. I find that hard to believe that he has dropped so far, right now if the draft played out like this he would be my pick..
Matt Millen will obviously draft Calvin Johnson with the #2 instead of the OL. And if Bowe is having that good of a Senior Bowl then in no way does he fall to #25.
Johnson deserves to go #1 or #2, but if either of those teams take him, without making a bunch of trades, I'd laugh my ass off.
he wasnt a 1st rd pick to begin.. come draft he may be a top 15 pick.. but untill the combine he is still a late 20's guy. with johson and jarrett off the board than its crap shoot with bowie,Rice,Meachem i guess it depends on what kind wide reciever you like.. bowie could damn well be there at 25 cme draft day unless he run a 4.3 at the combine which will make him a sure fire top 15 pick.
He has to pick somebody to take the WR's he thinks are going in the first round. My guess is that after the top 10 picks or so he has no clue and just starts assigning people based on where he ranks them with an occasional nod to clear need or lack thereof. The Jets however have little or no need of another WR at the moment so I have no idea how he wound up giving us one.
if - IF we keep our current pick ( #25 in the 1st round ) we WILL select : Darrelle Revis/CB or Aaron Ross/CB or Daymeion Hughes/CB. IF NONE OF THE ABOVE ARE STILL " ON THE BOARD " ; we'll probably trade down . . .
because its a early mock it wouldnt be smart to take mocks serious at any point muchless before the combine and FA.
I suppose it's also possible that he just gives the top-ranked player on his board at each position in the draft under the theory that the smart thing to do in any draft is to take the best available player. I played in a strat-o-matic baseball league for 15 years and if you started drafting people based on need the team always declined. The teams that won year in and year out were the teams that just took the best available talent on each pick. It's not a stretch to say that a phenomenon that regularly occurred in a simulation game probably was based on underlying real-life principles and laws.
i ont think magini wants another rookie cb anyway. they have coleman and miller as ur young development players.. they will probably address cb in FA. bring in a vet who actaully knows what he is doing..
That is exactly why you don't go the extreme with BPA and don't consider need at all, now if we've at least fixed the lines through FA or solved the RB problem, then I wouldn't mind a WR, if however we don't do much at all on the FA market, then there is no excusing taking a WR at that spot, sure it is nice to go BPA, but it is the best teams that is able to balance BPA and need.
yea but those teams are 1 and 2 they can afford to pick for need and get the best prospect at the position. we draft at #25 around there your picking 2nd rd guys in most cases so if we get lucky and a great player falls as they do every year you cant pass on him because you have a need.
sure you can if this guy is by far the BPA and we didn't fix the lines or address the RB position or get a passrusher, then trade down to someone who values that player more, that way we can fix our holes better with better talent. People are forgetting how deep this WR class is, if this guy drops to us he may not be as great as people make him
but my point is by trading down u pass a great player just to get more players to fill need (quanity over quality) and by going down and doing this you start reaching ala our 3rd rd last year.at # 25 you go for the BPA imo. you cant even run ur offseasn around the #25th pick because you really have no idea what will be there. so our FO would be dumb to have some many holes still open after FA.
first off us reaching for our 3rd round pick, Mangini had specific roles in mind, which is why we reached, there was better value there, secondly the reason why we have a 2nd second rounder is because we saw that we could get a player that we need who would also give us value later on the draft. Third, you basically ignored my post earlier if you said that we wouldn't have all those holes because I have WR probably 6th in our needs list. 4th where is the catches available for this kid anyway? Cotchery and Coles combined for around 160 catches together, we still aren't in the position to utilize a deep threat well right now anyway, we would need an established running game to be able to use this kid. And 5th and finally we are still rebuilding, we have critical holes in our team right now, with age still in our oline, lack of talent on our dline, weak pass rushing, a hole on our secondary, lack of talent on our running game, we need these holes addressed before we can consider ourselves true contenders for the SB.
Mel Kiper doesn't know what he is talking about. There is no way we will go with a WR in the 1st round.
and you go into the draft tryna address all these holes? like i said our FO would be dumb to think that way.. this is why tanny said he hopes to go in the draft with flexibility.
