Hey Guys, As you guys know, the site is going through some technical challenges. While discussing that, the idea of collecting money among ourselves to help out Petro with site expenses came up. Problem is, neither I nor our other admin @Cman7zero is knowledgeable about this crowdfunding stuff. I started this thread to seek help from people who have done this before and also gauge the temperature of posters and their willingness to help. FYI - Petro does not collect any money from other admins for help. He also doesn't have a tiered system where some members pay monthly for some perks. I will kick start the funding by donating $200. Let me know what you guys think.
I have no idea what I’m doing but what kind of costs are we looking at and what does that entail? Is it an upgrade or is it maintenance?
Petro might be able to answer better but apparently we need an upgrade on the software to allow twitter posts to be visible and also take us to a better software to avoid disruptions. Petro has been very adamant not taking any money and I don't know how much money he spends every month for the board. But I know the ad revenue is dwindling with Ad Blockers and number of people hanging around message boards is also going down due to Twitter and other social media. I don't know how we will make crowdfunding work but I hope somebody on this board has done something like this before so they can show the way.
Gofundme is the easiest way, but it would help to know how much we’re looking at. In the hundreds? We can pull that off. Thousands? Might be tough.
We used to have a voluntary donation thing if I remember correctly. Maybe we can have that , but with a pinned post at the top that lets people k ow why and how important it would be for what everyone can manage . I think any set rate thing may collect less
Yeah I think he used to take Paypal donations back in the day. TBH I don't know how much crowd funding you need when I don't know if we qualify as a crowd anymore, not sure about the site audience. I'll match Brook's $200
I own an entire web server. If Petro would like, I can create him an an entire environment that he would have access to, and he could move the entire hosting to it, and it would be free of charge. I have nine domains, multiple websites and a number of database servers as well as my own message board for my own personal stuff so the option is out there if needed.
Hi BA I doubt it is thousands. But among us, if we can hit something close to $1,000 I will call it a win. Let's see how the thread progresses. I will look into Gofundme. Oh man. That would be great. Let's see if Petro will take up the offer. To me it sounds easy. Then the money can be spent on forum software and some other stuff like Prediction Game we were running back in the day. Thanks for the offer.
Happy to contribute once we get something set up. I also wonder if it might be worth it to run the site's source code through Codex or Claude to see if it can be optimized to reduce monthly costs somehow.
Naw, Musk is one selfish evil turd burglar! I just want the ole’ TGG to run smooth and I have the tools to help if the opportunity arises.
I’ll gladly donate. Don’t use a crowd funding site though. They take a percentage. Setup a Venmo, Cash App or something like that and let’s just privately send money to it. I’m sure there’s a way to set one up anonymously if folks don’t want to reveal their names.
