4.3 for a tight end is incredible. Maybe they should just take Sadiq. Maybe you trade down from 16 to like 20ish, grab a solid mid round pick/swap for your troubles and add Sadiq!
They have a better situation in large part BECAUSE they make smart moves. That was one of them. Depending on how the draft board falls and the compensation I don't think it is wise to simply rule out trading up (or down) because we are rebuilding.
That’s cool. The move you reference has nothing to do with a team in a rebuild and everything to do with a championship team throwing gas on the fire. And as Nagle stated, Carter was a more unique situation than trading up for Lemon would be. I don’t think there’s much of a drop off from Lemon to Concepcion or some of the other guys. In general I think it’s a pretty weak receiver class at the top but there are some nice players in the top half of the second round for us. Not the year to trade up for one, that’s for sure.
Fair enough on Lemon, like I said all depends on evaluation. But what if Tate starts sliding and say reaches 10 or so? Do you like him enough to at least attempt to trade up? Or he is also in similar ball park from what you've seen?
There’s not a single player I think I’d trade a second round pick to move up to get in the Jets situation, no. And I like Tate a lot.
I like the dual receiving threats at TE as long as one of them can block. Belichick tried to find that combo of TEs for like a decade, you can look at his drafting history up until he landed Gronk and Hernandez, every year or every other year he drafted TE early. My favorite combo in that vein was Moose Johnston and Jay Novacek, but they got outshined by the rest of that stacked offense in Dallas.

This may be a dumb question but do teams consult their players for assessments on draft candidates. E.g., candidate may be a former teammate or opponent so why not collect all the intel you can if allowed
I wouldn't say outshined. Moose was fundamental as the lead blocking back for Emmitt's whole career. He was more of a pure fullback than a TE though. Just over 500 career touches, almost as many carries as receptions.
I would 100% draft this kicker from UTSA in the late rounds. His name is Jaffer Murphy, and like Brandon Aubrey from the Cowboys he is a converted soccer player and played a D1 career as a soccer player new to football he kicked in D2 and last year was the kickoff specialist at UTSA. But on their pro day he went 12 of 13 in field goals, made a 70 yarder and ran a 4.4 40. Not a stupid question at all and I believe it happens all the time. In fact, I've heard, over the years, many different players weigh in on former teammates. Guys who were on their freshman year as whatever players was in their 1st or second year on a team.
My 2 cents on JV and Borats debate regarding moving up for Tate. First off I don’t think he slides to 10 with the Bengals. I think the saints will take him at 8 as his floor. The Commanders at 7 is also a place I feel he could land. That means jumping to 6 with the Browns. That’s 10 spots. It simply isn’t a viable option because that will cost one of our 2027 1st + 44 and that’s simply too much. If he somehow slides to 10 and we could screw the Fins and get a stud it would be tempting no doubt. I’d definitely kick a tire on that but I feel like the price would be more than what Borat has proposed. I feel jumping from 16 to 10 has 33 + in the deal. It’s definitely tempting and probably the right move as I’m all for taking blue chip prospects. As for Lemon I just don’t want him anywhere near this team. I still have PTSD from all the busts we’ve drafted from USC and not only that but he’s as dumb as a rock and was schemed open on the field.
I think it happens all the time. I know for a fact Burrow said to take Chase over Sewell in that draft even though Burrow was getting crushed and Chase sat out the entire year.
Bailey is a heck of a player I would love the pick. Reese is an athlete freak of nature and I can understand why the scouts are drooling over him because the wow plays are there. Bailey also has the wow plays and they are definitely more consistent because that kid has a ton of moves in his bag to get the best of OTs. Besides the whole position thing with Reese my main concern is he goes silent in games and looks a bit lost on the field. I question his FBI and awareness on the field. Bailey has the opposite feel. Everyone knows where he is and that dude is coming.
hey Rockinz, I watched a video from someone online that actually showed the opposite of what you are saying there about awareness on the field. Now I'm sure you can nitpick plays here and there about anyone, so its not the end all be all, but something for you to consider here... what the person showed was a running play situation (looked like a counter) with both Bailey and Reese setting the edge as a comparison. Bailey ducked around contact allowing the blocker to seal him off and the runner to cut it up for a nice gain. Essentially, he "did his job" but at the cost of his teammates. The video then showed the same play with Reese setting the edge. He ran right into the blocker taking it on and pushing him back. It clogged the backfield and allowed his teammates to stop the runner for a no gain. The visuals in how they approached the play were pretty striking. Both players set the edge and got into the backfield but Reese had himself in the play and Bailey didn't. It definitely looked like Reese was the more aware, tougher player at the point of attack
Interesting, I’m sure there are plays out there where Reese does his job correctly and Bailey doesn’t and vice versa. I don’t watch highlights when I evaluate players. I watch the shorts of each game and zero in on the player I’m evaluating. I found that Reese especially towards the end of the season took plays off and got a bit lost on the field. Now, Styles for instance was everywhere it seemed, especially in the run game. This could also be because Patricia had Reese play 3-4 positions on the field as a joker. That is something to consider here. If we are switching to a 3-4 D as an OLB Reese will be a very good player because he can do all the things that a true OLB can do and if will help his game playing that position and that position alone. A 3-4 OLB has to be able to pass rush, drop in coverage, seal the edge against the run and even play man on TEs. I think that could work for Reese. Bailey on the other hand in a 3-4 system is a down hill pass rusher. You can use him in a 4-3 set as well as a DE or in a nickel package as a DE. He’s a pure pass rusher. I also felt he took some plays off against the run and he needs to improve there. When a OT squares up on him in the run game he gets handled. I did see this on film as well. I just don’t think you draft Bailey for that. You draft him to hit the QB and hit him hard which he does consistently. Bottom line you can make a case for either guy. Heck I could make a case for Bain too! This is not an easy call here for the GM.
