    Exactly.

Until he finds the franchise QB and/or actually wins some games outside of the state of Ohio, it doesn't really amount to much.

If Mougey is just waiting for Glenn to be fired, then it would make sense that the defensive players drafted either don't fit Glenn's defense or only fit that defense because the guy that Mougey hires afterward has the same personnel needs. If he drafts specifically for Glenn and the players don't fit the next guy's defense, then is he really a mastermind?

We're currently looking at a 3-4/4-3 hybrid that sounds like it needs a front 7 full of tweeners. And I doubt the scouts were looking for that this year which was their first full season on the job.

Hell if Mougey is trying to outmaneuver Glenn, why would he even draft defense until day 3?

Suppose he trades down a bit, drafts Downs the safety and Ty Simpson with the other first. I’ll be convinced he’s trying to get Glenn fired

Costello actually is the closest one I have seen to a source with some credible info. And he claimed unequivocally Jets no interest in Cousins. If Glenn was interested, that would make his story false. I think they all wanted Geno, who was the best available option for us. There is no need to overthink it. Mooge is no longer a sidekick, but is proving to be a competent GM, whose primary responsibility is personnel, while working closely with the HC. That's basically the story. Everything else was a BS filler.

And if Simpson sucks, it's his ass too. If he drafts Simpson, he thinks Simpson is good. More likely explanation: Fancesa is full of shit.

Well from the few press conferences that I saw with both Mougey and Glenn, it’s pretty clear to me that Mougey is the brains of this things, and Glenn is an old school wanna be tough guy coach who says nothing but platitudes and empty bullshit with no substance.

That shows up right away any time they speak…I do feel Mougey knows what he’s doing, but the proof will be in the pudding…he’s got two loaded drafts to show what he can do.

Well it’s not comparable because Williams was very good but not an All Pro like Q was. We’ll see if Mougey does a lot better…say what we want about JD, and he fucked up on MANY levels (trading away Darnold instead of trading away the #2 pick, choosing Wilson with that #2 pick, relying on Becton when it was clear he was no longer reliable, going back on his words to Darnold about protecting him, the rediculous Reddick trade without getting a contract done, etc.), he DID draft both the offensive and defensive rookies of the year plus got a stud pass rusher and RB in one draft…had everything else panned out, that should have been the core of this team now along with Q…so while JD turned out to be a terrible GM when you look at the entire body of work, as substantiated by the team’s record under his tenure, let’s see how Mougey does with these next two drafts before we crown him king of the world…I hope he can start drafting some rookie of the year type guys.

It was a strange marriage. Two rookies in their positions that never worked together before…ever…

Just woody being dumb & or cheap

If you hire Mougey then you pair him with an experienced head coach. OR if you hire Glenn then you pair him with someone from the Saints or Lions who knows how they built that

    Shocker…Woody is clueless…

The only way we start winning is if this imbecile somehow falls into a good hire…so far it looks more likely that it’s Mougey and not Glenn, but I guess we’ll see…

Woody's first lesson in forcing coaching pairings like that was making a 3-4 specialist (Ted Cottrell) run a Tampa cover 2 and it was average at best the entire time. Woody doesn't learn lessons and I wonder if he even realizes his own massive part in the failures.

I haven’t been super impressed with Mougey. It’s early I’m not calling for his head I just don’t understand the perception that he knows what he’s doing and others don’t.

He screwed up bad with Fields and sounds like a low energy dude. This year’s draft will tell us a lot about him, though

He screwed up, no question, but I think its unfair to say he screwed up BAD. Deshaun Watson.... THAT'S screwing up BAD.

agreed...it was a bad decision for sure and I hated it the moment I heard about it...however, it wasn't huge dollars, and apparently it was Glenn's strong push...of course we may never really know exactly who pushed for Fields...and maybe it was some combo of Glenn, Mougey, and Woody, so I'm not ready to dump that decision all on Mougey...but it was a low percentage swing for the fences...predictably, it failed miserably...can't recall when I ever saw an NFL QB throw for under 100 yards multiple times...

So yeah, Mougey was some part of that decision, but I feel like he was not the driver there...

I absolutely agree with this. My take, with zero evidence to backit up is as follows. AG wanted no part of AR, he felt threaten and though he would undermine his leadership as the new rookie HC. He made that clear to Woody and Moug before he even took the job. The question was….ok who do you want to roll with that is a reasonable option as we are stuck with AR monster contract. He pushed for Fields from a list of limited options. Couple that with putting his faith on a rookie OC who came from a background of establishing a play book for a pocket passer with great arm and vision and the rest is history. I also believe that last year is history for AG, and he will not have a strong vote on personnel issues, he can work with Moug but irks Moug evaluation that counts.
    we shall see.

I loved and agreed with his moves last year and at the deadline, but the philosophy in how he's approaching this offseason has me questioning him immensely. I loved the trades for Brownlee and Briggs, and when he traded Q and Sauce at the deadline, I felt like finally the jets have a competent GM who recognizes that you are not playing the same game as everyone else unless you have a franchise QB. I understand I am on the extreme end when it comes to this, but I believe strongly that if an organization doesnt have a franchise QB, then priority number 1 is trying to get one and everything else you do (like filling out the roster, who you sign and dont sign, etc) is made with that in mind. The moves at the deadline showed me that he shares the same philosophy and understanding, which I believe is the winning one. You'd think all organizations would too, but they dont, and you can tell by their moves. If you dont have a franchise QB, then you need to go all in, IMO. I agreed with not firing Glenn this year because this year is a wasted year anyway. Its better to do it next year and come into the season with a new coach and new QB. You aren't going to get a quality HC this offseason with no plan to acquire a franchise QB, those candidates will go to the jobs were there's a plan for that. Go after the coach next offseason when they have a better shot at a draftable QB.

I thought the jets were on this path until their moves this offseason. You dont bring in aging players on the back 9 of their career on 1 year deals so you can improve from winning 3 games to 6/7. You dont start Geno Smith at QB, or sign Demario Davis, Onyemata, Wright, trade and re-sign Minkah Fitzpatrick, etc. If your priority is to get a franchise QB, then what you dont do is try to win 3-4 more games this year and still not make the playoffs or accomplish anything meaningful. If you can win and make a run, fine. However, no one is under the illusion the Jets are doing that. They will still not make the playoffs because the roster is shitty and the coaching is shitty. I've heard people say "you have to fill out a roster" or "use the cap space" or "change the culture of the team" to justify these signings. None of them make any sense. I agree you want to do all of those things, but you do it with the future in mind. You dont need highly paid players to change a culture. You can spend cap space and fill out the roster by signing younger guys with potential (Chenal, Logan Hall, Riq Woolen, Allgeier, Tyquan Thornton, Greg Newsome, Ebiketie, Brisker, Micah McFadden, Jamaree Salyer, etc) or throw big chunks of money at young, quality guys that are younger and will be here for a while with your new regime (like Linderbaum, Oweh, Lloyd, Cook, Blankenship, Mays, etc). What you dont do is sign 29-37 years olds on 1 year deals.

The Jets possibly moved themselves from picks 1-3 next year to 6-13. COULD the jets still end up with a franchise QB anyway, being that the first QB chosen is not always the best, or that they have so many picks that they can trade up to get a guy? Sure. They absolutely can do that. Its just stupid IMO to risk any of that and/or give up additional assets to do what you didnt have to do in the first place. If the QB next year is the priority, you dont do what the jets are doing - you do what Miami is doing (rid themselves of all older players and contracts like Tua, Tyreek, Waddle, Minkah, Chubb, and signing younger guys with potential like Salyer, Ojabo, Willis, etc). This shows me that acquiring a franchise QB is not the jets top priority, and that makes me question him entirely. Again, the jets could still end up fine anyway next year through a multitude of means.... but why go out of your way to put yourself in a position where you HOPE that happens and not one where you are driving the bus and forcing the issue? 1 pick is the difference between Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson.

Again, if you were talking about a HC that had time on his side, things would be different. Initially, the Jets were looking at an FQB but as it turns out, there's only 1 in the draft pool this year and the Raiders will take him. They decided to pivot which IMO, was the right thing to do. They're gonna shore up the weakest link on the team with established guys for one year. '26 is another rebuilding/retooling year. Geno and all the other "names" they bought in was to re-establish some credibility to the franchise in an effort to erase all the jokes that are commonplace. Glenn could not afford another 3 win year no matter who was coming out in '27. He had no choice but to upgrade the roster or be fired. Since there will be most likely more than ONE QB candidate in next year's class, the FO/CS had no other choice other than to improve this year. Especially with Woody Johnson's shadow looming large like the Grim Reaper.

Mougey is doing this right. Sometimes Plan A doesn't work so you have to be flexible and able to pivot to a Plan B pretty quickly which is what happened. All those one year rentals hopefully will show our talented but inexperienced players what real defense looks like and how its played. That is their only job this year. Glenn's job will depend on how the defense plays this year as he OWNS that unit now. Mougey will get him the talent, but it will up to him to make it work or not. Next year we have even more DP's to work with and Mougey will have another year under his belt as shot caller now. Its all upside for the Jets.

In a spare moment, take a look at the Jet schedule for '26. Its brutal for a 3-14 team. Sometimes, you just have to deal with what's in front of you and make the best of a bad situation. Mougey and this CS is doing just that. On to '27!!
