Exactly. Until he finds the franchise QB and/or actually wins some games outside of the state of Ohio, it doesn't really amount to much.
If Mougey is just waiting for Glenn to be fired, then it would make sense that the defensive players drafted either don't fit Glenn's defense or only fit that defense because the guy that Mougey hires afterward has the same personnel needs. If he drafts specifically for Glenn and the players don't fit the next guy's defense, then is he really a mastermind? We're currently looking at a 3-4/4-3 hybrid that sounds like it needs a front 7 full of tweeners. And I doubt the scouts were looking for that this year which was their first full season on the job. Hell if Mougey is trying to outmaneuver Glenn, why would he even draft defense until day 3?
Suppose he trades down a bit, drafts Downs the safety and Ty Simpson with the other first. I’ll be convinced he’s trying to get Glenn fired
https://jetsxfactor.com/2026/03/02/new-york-jets-not-interested-kirk-cousins-report/ Costello actually is the closest one I have seen to a source with some credible info. And he claimed unequivocally Jets no interest in Cousins. If Glenn was interested, that would make his story false. I think they all wanted Geno, who was the best available option for us. There is no need to overthink it. Mooge is no longer a sidekick, but is proving to be a competent GM, whose primary responsibility is personnel, while working closely with the HC. That's basically the story. Everything else was a BS filler.
And if Simpson sucks, it's his ass too. If he drafts Simpson, he thinks Simpson is good. More likely explanation: Fancesa is full of shit.
Well from the few press conferences that I saw with both Mougey and Glenn, it’s pretty clear to me that Mougey is the brains of this things, and Glenn is an old school wanna be tough guy coach who says nothing but platitudes and empty bullshit with no substance. That shows up right away any time they speak…I do feel Mougey knows what he’s doing, but the proof will be in the pudding…he’s got two loaded drafts to show what he can do.
Well it’s not comparable because Williams was very good but not an All Pro like Q was. We’ll see if Mougey does a lot better…say what we want about JD, and he fucked up on MANY levels (trading away Darnold instead of trading away the #2 pick, choosing Wilson with that #2 pick, relying on Becton when it was clear he was no longer reliable, going back on his words to Darnold about protecting him, the rediculous Reddick trade without getting a contract done, etc.), he DID draft both the offensive and defensive rookies of the year plus got a stud pass rusher and RB in one draft…had everything else panned out, that should have been the core of this team now along with Q…so while JD turned out to be a terrible GM when you look at the entire body of work, as substantiated by the team’s record under his tenure, let’s see how Mougey does with these next two drafts before we crown him king of the world…I hope he can start drafting some rookie of the year type guys.
It was a strange marriage. Two rookies in their positions that never worked together before…ever… Just woody being dumb & or cheap If you hire Mougey then you pair him with an experienced head coach. OR if you hire Glenn then you pair him with someone from the Saints or Lions who knows how they built that
Shocker…Woody is clueless… The only way we start winning is if this imbecile somehow falls into a good hire…so far it looks more likely that it’s Mougey and not Glenn, but I guess we’ll see…
Woody's first lesson in forcing coaching pairings like that was making a 3-4 specialist (Ted Cottrell) run a Tampa cover 2 and it was average at best the entire time. Woody doesn't learn lessons and I wonder if he even realizes his own massive part in the failures.
I haven’t been super impressed with Mougey. It’s early I’m not calling for his head I just don’t understand the perception that he knows what he’s doing and others don’t. He screwed up bad with Fields and sounds like a low energy dude. This year’s draft will tell us a lot about him, though
