If the Jets go into the season with Geno Smith, Bailey Zappe and a 2nd round+ Rookie Qb... It's going to be an ugly year. The Jets have signed a bunch of older players to bring some stability so Glenn doesn't get fired. They are aiming for a 5-8 win team but where is the long term vision - Is Tye Simpson now the target??? You'd have to think so as the Geno signing looks an awful lot like what the Giants did (w/Dart) and the NFL is a copycat league...
There was no way in hell Cincinnati was dropping that kind of coin on the two receivers only to let a competent QB walk out the door for any amount of picks or $. Period. To think anything otherwise is simply unrealistic.
There is something wrong with the narratives going on right now. EVERYTHING, outside anyone NY Jets, I read about Geno is a fantastic teammate, stand up guy, do anything for the team, mentors players on and on. So, do I believe millions of people, who are not Jets fans, or do I believe a fanbase/writers, of a team so mired in it's own shit and chaos? Hmmm....let me think. I think I'll first listen to the stats that would have Geno landing somewhere in the top 5 of all time Jets QB's...which, of course, says MORE about the pile of dung the NY Jets have been than Geno Smith AND the people who have the temerity to speak honestly about the guy. Geno has become a decent game manager and if you give him some time he can move the chains. He'd win more games than Fields. That said, IMO Fields wasn't really trying that hard last year. He is getting paid and doing his time here, but wants to be somewhere else. He plays overly safe to keep his turnovers down so he can say, "look with the Jets my ball safety was great". It reminded me of Darnold's last season here, only wimpier.
Dude - I'm allowed to passionately hate Geno Smith (just like I passionately hate pathetic Z Wilson). Not saying you have to. Not sure his Jets stats below qualify him in top 5 all time Jets QB's.....you cant take someone's non-Jets stats and extrapolate. Just an absolutely horrendous tenure on the field, only exceeded by his entitlement and douchery off the field. And again he seems to have matured a bit as player and person, but it is just insulting to have to relive the whole scenario. I mean, I don't think the situation is _that_ bad. Our money is as green as anybody else's, and draft picks will come here. But I agree with the core of your argument. We (and I am probably as guilty of this as anybody honestly) are viewing Geno from the lens of six years ago. He's likely not the same player now and has demonstrated this. We need a QB. If not Geno, who? Stop whining and provide a solution.
Giants doubled down with Russell Wilson AND Jameis, so it's not quite that. But I agree Ty Simpson might be in play here. And, may I add that Geno coming back is fine with me. It's been long enough that i don't recall what I didn't like about him the first time. I do remember a QB masterclass he put on for us in Atlanta on a National TV game. With so little to hold onto from our QB's, I do treasure that night.

I'm gonna say that most of this post is tongue in cheek. I'm aware that Geno Smith was worlds better somewhere else than he was here, typical Jets story. It's more the bizarro world aspect of it. 4,000 yard seasons, in the end that and a handful of pennies doesn't get me on the subway. Also, PAIN. Not Danny Woodhead level pain . . . Yeah, OK maybe. If someone on the team doesn't put one of those Bozo The Clown punching bags at Florham Park or put some Jawbreakers in Geno's locker, I'll be very disappointed. See? Hell, since then the world almost died, hellooooo pandemic, the Orange fuck-ass has taken the United States and turned it into the post-war version of Russia as far as the world is concerned (on this one, I wonder how many more international games there'll be with the US's reputation somewhere between the basement and amoeba shit), the Pats dynasty died, the Chief's dynasty was born, ran it's course and could be back again, perennially fat people now have a true weight loss drug yada yada yada...I could go on.
