Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt Asking around on Minkah Fitzpatrick: First thing that always seems to come up is that he’s a great locker room guy and competitor — someone that will set a good example for team that needs more leadership. If he can recapture some of the playmaking he was known for then he’ll be the best safety the Jets have had in a while. Rich Cimini @RichCimini Keen observation by @SethWalder, which may partly explain Fitzpatrick's lack of ball production last year in Miami: He moved from a deep safety role into playing much closer to the action, often as a nickel or box safety. His average depth from the line of scrimmage at the time of snap dropped from 12.6 yards to 6.8, per @NextGenStats. #Jets
Great to hear about the veteran leadership. To me that’s the biggest aspect of this trade. We need to establish a positive identity and culture
To see what we got him for was surprising. I’m pretty jazzed up about this move. As a lot of other posters have mentioned it’ll be good to have some veteran leadership on this defense and the locker room in general. Have the Jets finally found a good GM?
So, Mooge used 6th round pick swap to get Brownlee, where he got 7th in return, which he used to get Fitzpatrick. So, we got Brownlee AND Fitzpatrick for a single 6th round pick. I can live with that!
This is a great value. Why would they make this deal in their own division? Maybe they know something we don't, but it feels like a stupid dolphins move and a great move by us.
They can't afford it, I think it's as simple as that. As far as why to us, maybe we paid Minkah the most or others didn't want to spend a 7th since they thought they could get someone without giving up assets in free agency. But we were in good position to take advantage.
They needed the money and Fitzpatrick wasn't part of the longterm plans. I think they gained $10 mil with this trade.
This seems like a solid, big upgrade for the Jets. Did the Jets bring back Vera Tucker? I don't think they should let him go.
Not yet as far as I’ve seen, and we lost Simpson, so we now have a hole at LG that will need to be filled
Yeah but in their division. Its a bad move. Perhaps they feel like they are rebuilding and by the time they are competitive again he will have moved on?
You can't play 53 rookies. Every spot on the roster does not need to be an audition. And what will you do with the $10m salary cap money you saved with your JAG safety? According to you everybody in the roster this year is going to be a minimum salary player. This is just stupid.
Where's Buffalo Physco when you need him? If that guy and his ugly Christmas sweater are banned, please somebody undo it. I think its raiderjoe in disguise personally.
I’m not saying all spots are an audition. There a plenty of younger players in free agency the jets can blow their wad on, who are not past their prime. The jets are signing older guys past their prime and 1 year mercenaries like they’re making a Super Bowl run.
Yeah, no rebuilding team has ever brought in culture players with experience to help the young players along. Baby's first take. This dude has been trolling here for like 10 years and still can't find his schlort in the dark with a flashlight.
Just ignore him. The Bills continued to make goofy decisions like trading a 2nd rounder for DJ Moore while they have no money to sign any one significant because they’re paying Dawson Knox $17 million this year for 300 yards.
Or they are signing good players to build rookies around. Or they are signing people who can create a culture of toughness. Or they had to choose between drafting Caleb Downs and signing somebody else, or drafting a different position and signing Fitzpatrick and the second option was better. Or they just want to win some games this year. Not every signing is Super Bowl or Bust.
