Seeing as Indy tagged Jones, that leave Pierce. You think the Jets have an actual shot at getting this kid? (seriously...just wondering)
I sure hope so. He has the size they need at the position. Then they go ahead and draft Lemon too. Now all of a sudden WR is a position of strength …. I get the whole theory of not breaking the bank despite having all of that money but I would think the Jets sign at least one expensive but prudent FA to solve a position for the next 4-5 years and a player who would be around and contributing when this rebuild is complete…. For me it’s either Pierce at WR or Lindbaum at C. I think Pierce is the more likely one….
0.0% chance. The Bills just took themselves out of the market but Winning teams with competent quarterbacks will be after him and will pay him. Looking at the Chargers here…
i wouldn't say zero chance given the cap space the Jets have and in a market setting that is projecting him to get a $30m/per figure a lot are going to view as an overpay. To me Pierce is ultimately the type of player situation you want to fall into and get the most out of *before* you have to pay him open market money.
I really like Pierce but whenever I see him get hit, his knees go straight to the ground like magnetized. I'd be waiting for an ACL or MCL on every play. The Jets would probably have to pay obscene money to a FA receiver considering nobody knows their plan at QB.
Maybe, but guys will also follow the bag and I don’t think the money has to be obscene. We dragged Eric Decker here to play with Geno Smith. Same with Corey Davis a couple years back. The top dollar free agent receiver isn’t always necessarily as high as you think if you look at the list. Probably because top top guys usually don’t hit the market. Tyrell Williams, Kenny Golladay and Christian Kirk all led their FA class in dollars. I think the league recognizes what Pierce is, which is moreso a deep contested catcher who has an outlier season in a contract year. He’s actually a really damn good fit for what we need though.
Pats have a need, a ton of money to spend and they’re the conference champs. Same with the Chargers (minus conference champs obviously). I just don’t think the market favors us at all when it comes to WRs. I think the only way we end up with good ones is if we draft them or they get traded here against their will.
I like Pierce but man I can’t pay him 25-30M. I don’t like him that much. Tate is nice for sure but we would have to reach for him at 2. I can’t take him over Bailey or Bain. I like Fields at 44. Former QB with high FBI for a WR. He has super soft hands, the ball looks like it hits a pillow when he catches the ball. He wins in the air on fades and back shoulder balls with pure strength and my ball mentality. I think he’s a perfect fit for our team moving the chains and in redzone.
The durability is a fair point. Here’s the thing, the kids mechanics are practically flawless. His footwork and throwing motion is as good as any I’ve seen. Do you know how long it takes to perfect that? It’s putting in a ton of time. That shows me this kid absolutely is dedicated to his craft and wants it. Any player but especially QBs that puts in the time to perfect mechanics is a player I would want on my team. I would not be surprised if the cards take him at 3.
Seriously? Cards take Simpson at 3? That would be a hell of a reach for the inaugural season for LaFleur. Especially with Brissett on their squad and the QB class what it is in 2027. On the Fields note above, I like him too...the more I dig in on YouTube. Not only that, he could absolutely serve as an "emergency" QB on those super rare occasions that you might need him. That or the odd trick play. If there's a run on WR's do you feel 33 would be too much of a reach? I'm still more Bain at 2 than the other two but all three would fill a need, regardless of who they pick. The QB position is what perplexes me the most this year. The FA crop is just ridiculously thin and the incoming crop is what it is.
The draft hype and content creation machine hasn't even reached full gear speed yet. At this point 2 years ago people were saying there was no chance guys like Nix or Penix were going to be 1st round picks too. Some of these Jets interest in QB rumors are making me believe we ain't actually out the woods of that potentially being us at #2 either. I really really want to give Reich more credit then that...but ya know, Jets.
You're not wrong. The jury is still out on Mougey but I would consider it HIGHLY suspect of him to pull the trigger on any QB at #2 not named Mendoza. The Jets would have to have some type of insider knowledge that NO ONE is reporting on or what our eyes have seen concerning this QB class. Mougey would instantly place his job on the line by doing something like taking Simpson at 2. Hell, ANY QB for that matter.
Ya I seriously won’t be surprised. The draft hype is just starting to heat up. Fields is legit. I think he’s going to be a serious redzone threat in the NFL
Here's a guy to consider in maybe the 5th through 7th rounds; he could be a decent backup/development QB: Joe Fagnano from UConn. Decent mechanics, prototypical size, good decision making, quite a bit of experiencing starting (first for Maine before he transferred to UConn), and some great stats (46 TDs to 12 INTs, 69% completion last year, 138 QBR). Downsides are not the strongest arm, he's a super senior (26 years old), and obviously not playing for a top program and against top competition. Might not be a bad choice to backup whoever the stopgap is this year, and maybe start if (when) the season goes to shit.
7th year senior, did not throw well at the combine imo. Strong pass for me. These guys never work out. If I'm the Jets, I'd wait to see if Simpson slips to 33. Probably does not happen, but a 6'1", 1 year starter with some injury/durability concerns probably does not deserve to go in the top 20 or so picks. If that doesn't work out, then take someone mid-rounds with upside - Allar, Nussmeijer, Green, Robinson. They should strongly pursue trade/sign Mckee, and also one of the following: Levis, Stidham or Bagent. The idea of signing a mid-tier vet who can top out at 5-8 wins will not move the needle long term and only hurts. Put many eggs in the basket so to speak - Then you re-evaluate, if nothing pans out, draft your FQB next year, which should be a deep Qb draft!!! Jets have multiple first round picks and will have an opportunity.
26 means he's two years younger than Darnold. I don't think it's going to work out for him in the NFL.
What’s with the rumors that the Jets might go with Bailey Zappe as QB 2. I plead complete ignorance because I don’t know the first thing about him. I haven’t even see him play. I we just guessing t this point?
