Are you serious? Elhai has been there to make money for the team and has done a fantastic job - that's why he's still there. Johnson bought it for what? $650 million? It's now worth nine billion! He should be fired for that? If you guys can a restaurant you'd want to fire the bartender because the chef made crappy food even if the bar was full every night of the week.
If said bar had a toxic culture you are fucking right! The ENTIRE organization is a shit show. Dude, I could go in there and flippin' print money. The NFL PRINTS money. Trust me, it has nothing to do with Elhai and anything "special" he's doing. You can hire any ole' marketing "dick" to come in and work an NFL team. Shit, from a marketing standpoint, gotta be the easiest marketing money ever made! Look, something in that building stinks. If the stench isn't leaving with coaches and players then it is SOMEWHERE else. Now, as I've stated over and over and over, yet clearly must state it again, if Johnson is the stink then there IS NO HOPE!!!!! What, you think some 70+ year old asshole is going to change the way he does business? I don't think so. It's also a better than average bet his kid is just as bad. Maybe not, but only time will tell that tale. Unfortunately, half this board will be either dead or infirm before that happens so...
I think you nailed it on the head…Woody IS the stink. HE is the one with final say on all key hires, and probably meddling quite a bit in too many player personnel decisions also. I also agree that there is nothing we can do about this. And I also agree that his kid is almost certainly no better than his idiot dad. I think the owners who are long time family owners, like the Rooney’s, the Hunt’s, etc. are good owners…I think the business guys who have actually built businesses are better set up to be good owners because they know what it takes to build something, to make it successful, to understand how to evaluate and nurture talent. But owners like Woody, who are just lucky to have been born into great wealth, are probably the worst possible owners…they have no sense of hard work, no sense of how to build anything, they just have an entitled sense of their own value. Which is not much outside of being born into the right family. So yeah, we’re basically fucked…
I don't either. Problem is we're sitting on 15 years and going BACKWARDS. It would be one thing if I saw some progress this year but, right now, nothing looks like we aren't staring at LEAST 2028 in the face before the team is in the conversation of being COMPETITIVE. I hate to drag reality into the equation but 2028 is a long damn way off and, the way things are going, we'll be LUCKY if we're not in some form of Civil War somewhere in this country. The racists are going to go quietly and I fear this entire situation is going to become a crap ton worse. Football will be the LAST thing on anyone's mind. However, until that does/does not happen, the NY Football Jets fans' are staring straight at 2028 before we have something to really cheer about.
Why is it so confusing for you that the guy who does all the revenue production has nothing to do with the football operations? The Jets are in the top three of NFL teams in value, I think, and that's what the guy gets paid to do. I suppose you want him scribbling plays or analyzing combine stats. Why knock a guy who has been around since the beginning and is responsible for tickets, advertising, partnerships, even naming rights and making a ton of cash at it. You lose all credibility when you say the entire organization is a shit show - it clearly is not, even as the football side clearly is. You picked the wrong guy to whine about this time.
Why is it lost on you that EVERYONE in that building has something to do with that team!!??!! ALL of them!!!! Full STOP
I actually don't know about those old-timers, maybe they are the problem. I read Jimmy Johnson's book where he said when he came into Dallas he had all these people there who were around for 30 years and he fired them all - video production, locker rooms, etc. And Mark Cuban talked about when he came in to Dallas, he doubled the locker room budget and player support budget. Maybe that's what it takes - there are parts of player support and game support beyond the coaches that are bad with the Jets (and Browns, and Bengals, and Raiders). If so, why isn't the head coach saying something though? AG has been in other buildings & locker rooms, including some successful ones. Even the coaches before that - somebody should have said something. Or maybe they did, and they were ignored / suppressed? At this point I am deep in conspiracy theory land, so I will just shut up
Never gonna happen. Giving up the rights to the New York market is a decision, the magnitude of stupidity of which I cannot even begin to fit within the margin of this post (or every other post ever made in this forum, just as a start).
I think there is really something to this for sure. It’s does NOT stop at the coaches, who for 20 years now have been almost exclusively first time HCs from the defensive side…all of them except Gase, who I have a hard time even counting. So to think that after 20 years of stink, a rookie HC is going to come in here and fix it all is really kind of stupid. McCarthy would have been a great hire for us when we interviewed him…an HC who knew how things should look, coming from one of the better organizations in Green Bay. We also know that Woody is a HUGE part of the problem. So there is no reason to question really if the stuff in between is also part of the problem…we can safely assume it is. Don’t we also have those NFLPA surveys that have ranked us near the bottom pretty much every time? I don’t know how much it permeates…is it the facilities team, the locker room team, the training staff, the cafeteria staff, the medical staff, the office administration staff? We can’t know for sure, but I feel pretty confident in saying there’s plenty of stink there. We’ve talked a bit about this Hymie guy who’s been President for a while…hard to know exactly what his responsibilities are when it comes to the product on the field…he’s no coach, but does he have Woody’s ear with stupid ideas? Does he control the budget (which would be normal for a President of a company to have significant if not final say on budget) and therefore impacts the product on the field because he doesn’t allocate budget dollars to the right places? Does he control other areas that impact the team like staffing, training facilities, etc.? Does he have say on the player budget or coaching budget? Hard to know. But what we DO know is that all these people who have been in some of these leadership type positions, if not actually part of the problem, have definitely shown that they are in no way part of any kind of solution. But yeah, when you suck this bad for this long, there is a problem way beyond the coaching staff, of which for us there have been many and they have ALL failed. This stink permeates much much more, and is coming down straight from the idiot owner.
This is the survey from 2025. Jets were 29th in the league. Of course the Patsies were 31st and they just made it to the Super Bowl... Chiefs were 26th, Steelers were 28th, so it's not that obvious this affects winning. A lot of this just appears to be related to the age of the stadium and niceness of the locker rooms etc.
The ENTIRE organization. Stating again, the ENTIRE organization needs to be refreshed. Oh how I WISH Johnson could be "refreshed" too but that is a pipe dream we'll never realize. Maybe a .000001% chance of kicking the Johnson's out of NY but it's too remote to entertain. Which means the REST of the building needs to be dealt with in some form or fashion. I'm sorry, but this many fucking coaches and GM's in how many years and the shit is actually getting WORSE! We can't even say it's stayed the same. Sad thing is, even if they did fire absolutely everyone, except Johnson, he's proven he's thoroughly incapable. Shit, there were some lean years under Hess but I never got the impression the whole damn organization was a shithole. Under Johnson, however, a nightmare. And I don't want to hear this bullshit that he, or any of the other assholes running the show there, had ANYTHING to do with the teams increased valuation. A fucking muskrat could own an NFL team and it would go up in value! Believe you me, NOTHING Johnson has done nor the morons running the show had anything to do with the team being worth what it is now. NOTHING!! They can thank the GOOD teams and the NFL's marketing wing for that little honor.
Fully agree … the value increase is because the NFL keeps growing revenue and the bulk of it is shared across all teams, so the rising tide raises all boats. It has NOTHING to do with Woody. In fact, I’d be very comfortable in arguing that if anything, Woody is holding it back. If we had competent ownership here that led to winning, playoffs, and god can only imagine, Superbowls? The value of this franchise would be higher than it is now. Merchandise sales would be higher, and I think that is one of the revenue streams that are not shared across the league. So yeah…Woody has absolutely jack fucking shit to do with the valuation increase in the Jets…he’s just a lucky rich motherfucker who bought the team and watched the value of ALL teams skyrocket to the point where the NFL had to now allow for Private Equity money to be involved because the values are getting way too big for poor old billionaires to be able to afford a team
The top two headlines on ESPN right now. Champ Darnold thanks fans for belief in him. Ex Jet held without bail on murder chargers. Life as a Jets fan the gift that keeps on giving.
