Awesome. For the first time I can remember, I can actually trust the front offices and coaching staffs of both my football and baseball teams for at least (hopefully) the next 3 years. Talk about a great feeling.

Good for Cliff, I'm gonna be rooting for him for every game but the Mets games. Even then I hope its like Piazza where the Mets can get a big lead, then let him hit a HR so we can cheer for him.

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets and manager Willie Randolph agreed in principle Wednesday on a new three-year contract that runs through 2009.

The deal is scheduled to be announced Thursday, a baseball executive familiar with the negotiations said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to confirm the deal.

Randolph, who last year led the Mets to their first division title since 1988, had been slated to earn $700,000 this year in the final season of a three-year contract. He is expected to be paid at least $2 million by the 2009 season, a source familiar with the deal told the Daily News, which first reported the new agreement. The newspaper said the Mets have an option for Randolph for 2010.

Mets general manager Omar Minaya had been saying since last season that he hoped to extend Randolph's contract.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

At today’s press conference for Willie Randolph, the Mets announced that they have signed free-agent RHP Aaron Sele to a minor-league contract.

Omar continues with the shotgun approach (that was admittedly quite successful last year). I still think (hope?) that the Mets will be big players for a good (but expensive) pitcher on a bad team in June/July.

Roberto Hernandez in 2005, Jose Valentin in 2006, both big, cheap surprises. One will bound to be a successful signing in 2007.
