I was very deflated with Moore in that game but it was 1 game, and he did shine in that drive after the 1st pick. I won't give up on him after 1 game against a beast team in Indiana. Lets see what the draft process brings if he declares
So, Moore is not declaring. Our chances of trading down is suddenly limited. Who do you guys want at 2 assuming no trade down?
Bain if he’s high character and knows what he’s walking into. Otherwise Caleb Downs. Need leaders who will stick this out.
Moore going back to school is a real kick in the balls to the Jets. Figures they get the #2 pick in what is now the weakest Qb class in years. The Simpson talk is going to be nauseating now. I don't mind him as a prospect in rd.2, but there was already talk that he wouldn't last to 16. Hopefully the Jets don't reach.
Latest Dan Brugler mock has us going Reese at 2, Lemon at 16. I would walk away from night 1 thrilled with that duo.
We can absolutely agree on this one BA, that's best case scenario for me but I don't see Lemon falling that far. Him or Stiles would be amazing.
I have some hope he'll last to 16. Tyson and Tate will be the belles of the ball and I don't think there are enough WR-hungry teams from 3-15 that we'll see three go. Someone may fall in love with him pre-draft and trade up but we have no way of knowing that til it happens. His tape is amazing but he isn't going to wow anyone with his physical traits and athletic ability so he won't be a combine riser. Or that's just what I'm hoping at least.
It’s hard for me to get on board with an off ball LB at 2 overall. Lemon would be great for the jets.
He's the best LB in the country that can drop into coverage or line up on the edge. Calling him an off-ball LB isn't accurate at all IMO.
There are games where he's lined up at DE more than LB at least based on scouting reports, specifically mentioning the Texas game this past year. I'll take their word for it that he can line up off-ball or on the edge. Also... the tape. You can watch it and see that he's got explosive qualities as an edge rusher.
It’s for sure a question with him depending on scheme. Ohio State defense is run by Patricia and he uses a multiple scheme front like the patriots did for years. AZ picks behind the jets and he’d be perfect for them, they run a 3-4 and he can play either inside or on the edge for them. The jets have been running a traditional 4-3 and I don’t really see the fit there. QW will likely be gone and Reese could fill that role for sure, I just don’t like the value of using the number 2 overall pick to fill that traditional off ball role. Jets could also use a 4-3 end but imo he wouldn’t be best used in that role, you’d be better of with Bain imo. Reese will be a really good player, I’m just not sure his talents are being utilized best in the jets traditional 4-3 scheme. I think he’d play off ball for NY, and even though he’d be good there, do you really want to use the number 2 overall pick on that spot? I’m not so sure
I guess I'm just confused as to why you think he can't be a 4-3 pass rushing specialist with his size and speed. I'd be perfectly fine using the 2nd overall pick on a guy that can defend TEs up the seam who also has closing speed to cover in the flat, plays violent downhill run defense and can also line up at DE when needed. Also why are we calling the Jets defense a 4-3? We have no coordinator. Glenn wants someone that aligns with his philosophy and in his own words, this is his philosophy: “Offense and defense are built around the personnel that you have, so I don’t want to sit here and say this is who we’re going to be. Once we get everybody on this defense that we know we want to get, then we’ll build a scheme off of that. I’ve been a part of the wide-9, I’ve been a part of the react attack where we’ve got to stay square to the line of scrimmage."
I think he can rush “at times.” I don’t think it’s wise if you need a 4-3 end to just line him up there every play and make him play the run. If the jets want to be creative with him and use him in multiple ways, that would be good. I don’t really trust them to do that though. And that’s not a knock on the jets, it’s more of a knock on nfl coaches in general. There’s very few guys in the nfl where coaches have a plan around a player where he lines up in different spots often… Hamilton is one, Emanwari, a few others. If the jets want to really do that and commit to that then fine, but if they want him in a traditional role then I think the value isn’t there. He’d be best used in a multiple front imo. Maybe the jets will do that, who knows.
Caleb Downs. He's a safety, yes but I do not care. Our secondary is awful and Downs is arguably the best prospect in the draft. At 16 I'd look at Sonny Styles or Reuben Bain if he falls a little bit. Then at 33 grab Elijah Sarratt right before Vegas can.
I agree if we stay at 2 I would take Downs. I wouldn’t mind trading down for more picks. But I don’t care if he is a safety he will be a game changer like Kyle Hamilton. At 16 I would like Edge or WR
I don’t know enough about the player, but I have a very hard time taking a safety at 2 overall. I just can’t get my head around it. Even if he’s Kyle Hamilton I wouldn’t do it…Hamilton went what, 16 overall or something like that? Ed Reed is one of the biggest game changing safeties I’ve watched play, Polamalu in that category as well but I think Ed Reed was a bit more of a ballhawk than Polamalu was. In any case, if this kid is in their category, I’d say maybe, but I don’t know if he is, and in any case neither of those two guys went that high either. I’d rather take a pass rusher at 2 than a safety. Again, I don’t know enough about these specific kids I’m just looking at positional value and team building strategy. Kind of like taking a guard top 5. Yeah, I’d love a pro bowl guard like say Nelson, but the position is just not as impactful…would I love a probowler there? Sure. But I’d love a probowler at T way more and I’d rather use top resources differently. Same for safety. I get we need the help. Badly. But as we also need help at other more impactful positions, I’d rather use a top resource on those positions instead. Going back to our own history, we wasted a first rounder on S Calvin Pryor back in the day, and more recently on Jamal Adams…who was all that at the S position, but didn’t amount to any real improvement in wins…the best we can say about Adams is that he brought back 2 first round picks. I just think if your D sucks as bad as ours, you need to invest in more critical positions first, like DL. The S if a great piece once your D is already kind of pretty good…then it can bring you over the top…Hamilton on Baltimore was a great pick because he went into a defense that was already very good. Here, a S would not have the same impact. We need to pressure the QB first, then the secondary will look better
