In the day or two we'll know what Moore decides to stay or go. There are many pros and cons with Moore. Biggest is how few games started college and the bad last game against Indiana. Moore will need to sit at least 10 weeks in 2026. Many scenarios for this team if he declares. 1. Easiest one draft Moore. Know he has to sit. Do what the Giants do. Sign two veterans and see what happens. Not ideal. We'd stink again. 2. Trade the pick. Get more picks because this team needs so much. Still sign two veterans build the rest of the roster and at 16, 33 etc look at the likes of Simpson, Mateer, Nussmeir etc. Knowing this team and where we are at trading number 2 interests me the most. Not trying to kick the can on the qb. Just feel in 2027 more options and better qb options. Maybe we find a Dak in rounds 2-4 with qbs. Probably not. But either way we have a veteran starting and by not taking Moore at 2 we can fill other positions and be really ready for a qb in 2027. Wondering what others think.
Personally I think trade-down is best... but it takes two to tango If they draft Moore, they better sign TWO QBs, and make him a 3rd string redshirt for 2026
Completely agree. Unfortunately beyond Mendoza it's not worth it. Hopefully a 2nd round guy works and like you said sign two veterans run an NFL offense and see what happens. Dream: Mac Jones trade (don't love him but feel he'd be the best to have an NFL type offense) Be ok with: Willis. Don't think he comes here but like what I saw. Would need another vet to protect injury and ineffectiveness. Mckee. Be a trade feel the same about Willis. Didn't play great in week 18 but other times looked good. Blah but can be ok: Cousins. Please no Kyler
I'm all on board with the signing the 2 vets in FA part. That's the wise move in a rebuilding year especially with Mendoza off the board. They need to get BPA at #2. Bain, Tate, or Love would be my pick. Moore is nowhere close to the 2nd best player available in this draft at this point in time. Huge question mark and you don't gamble such a valuable #2 lottery pick on a prospect like that. That's how you end up in a Zach Wilson situation and this franchise still hasn't recovered from that 5 years later. BPA, proven quantity at #2.
Ideally a haul of a trade here. We just don’t know if Moore will be good or not. The problem is, Glenn is probably a lame duck HC. Mougey needs to know this and do what’s best for the franchise. If we get a haul for 2, you have to do it. If you get it and Moore succeeds early, not sure the GM makes it through this year.
Bain or Reese at 2, the culture of the defense changes. McDonald the run stuffer with the Colts pick at 16, they need to stop the run. sign a veteran QB and draft Garrett Nussmeier in round 3. We'd get back to playing like a real team for a little bit and if Nussmeier isn't the guy you take one in 27. Nussmeier is refined and not a project, worst come to worse, he's your long term future at backup QB, his floor is higher than any other QB
I think we should sign Mitch Trubisky. I’m not expecting a world beater, but Trubisky has been solid filling in for Allen when needed. I also think it’d be wise to add a second veteran not named Bailey Zappe. Maybe Mariota. Let the two vets battle, if we draft Moore he needs to sit. It’s imperative he sits. It’s a tough prospect as a team that definitely needs a franchise QB to trade out of the #2 pick to a team that would likely be drafting him.
Draft Moore. Make a decision on his play in 2026 season. If he stinks, we'll get another high draft pick and can draft another QB in 2027. You don't have to stand behind a QB for 3 years.
Serious question. Why so many people are against drafting a QB based on the head coach maybe not being there long term? I just don't understand the logic of it. If Glenn is bad coach he will get fired. If Moore is a good QB he will succeed. Both statement can be true or false but IMO they are unrelated to me and we should not make a decision based on that factor only. I mean all bad teams that have taken a QB high in a draft had significant question mark at the HC position or a newly appointed HC for sure, no? It's not just the Jets. Why some QB have success with bad coach and others don't? Rookie Coach or not. I believe that drafting a good QB with the tools is more important than who coach the team but if you have some example at other clubs, i am willing to listen
For a kid that’s not even 21 yet, playing arguably the hardest position in all of sports, unfortunately it is going to take more than one year to know if he’s got it.
You don't have to trade him or eject him from the roster at the end of it. The kid in 2027 is going to need someone to sit behind too.
It’s a much better strategy to start with a new coaching staff when drafting a QB so you have continuity. Moore is 20 years old. If we draft him he will learn Engstrand’s offense and then likely have to learn an entirely new offense in his second year. It’s not optimal at all. If Moore was Mendoza I’d agree with you, a more seasoned prospect might handle the turmoil better.
Definitely going, just confirmed with extended family. It's close, maybe a gang green meet up since we have 4 picks in the top 44
But it is hypothetical or factual? To me it seems more related to the QB than the HC. We had a rookie coach when we drafted Zach Wilson and that did not work. We had an established coach when we drafted Sanchez and it went better but still did not work well in the long term. Trevor Lawrence went to a shit show as HC in his rookie season and he still seems to have developed well down the road.
without a good coaching staff and a good QB it is very hard to compete unless you have an elite defense (which also points to good coaching) - IMO the Jets have none of those things (outside of a couple of spots) and I don't see any of those things appearing via this offseason in which case I am hoping that the Jets don't bring in a "decent" journeyman QB that ends up getting them 4 or 5 wins which then gets held up as signs of "improvement" and that instead we have a really bad year next year so that we get a new coaching staff in 2027 and hopefully the #1 pick in the next draft.
I will admit I only saw Bain Jr play against Ole Mis and was not impressed at all (maybe at 16) did you watch him play ?
If the Jets do not take Moore, they should absolutely draft Reese. The guy looks like an absolute beast who could be a defensive icon for a decade.
I think I'm on the side of, you draft him and you sit him until he is ready. Essentially red shirt him this year. I don't think one bad game where everyone happened to be watching should undo a season of scouting. He was brutal against Indiana, but in his defense, Indiana seems to be a level above everyone. He's also only 20, you're going to be doing a lot of projecting for a player like that. If the Jets aren't enamored by him, you can absolutely trade back. Maybe flip picks with Arizona for a couple thirds. The defense needs a ridiculous amount of help, so I don't think it would be outlandish to take Reese or Bain and go from there.
Watched him play quite a bit, one game shouldn't affect anything, especially against a team like Ole Miss that gameplans very well. He's not the type that traditionalists will like, he's got shorter arms for an edge rusher but he never quits and thats what this defense needs. drafting for measurables is how you end up with Quinton Coples over Melvin Ingram or Chandler Jones.
