The Jets also generally fixed the offensive line woes we’ve been seeing for pretty much a decade. It isn’t perfect and there have been some rough spots but it’s been serviceable to pretty good at times. And the same group has started almost all year.

I had a post a couple years ago that showed how teams that go from bad to good “over night” generally fix 3/5 spots on shitty offensive lines. We did that. We should’ve been better this year simply with the two good backs and decent offensive line.

Do any stats exist that show the Jets coaching budget is below the league average?

What is the point of firing him? I 100% believe that Woody will find a way to hire someone even worse.

This team is objectively among the worst teams we've ever had. How much worse could it get? The risk/reward of hiring someone new is massively skewed to the upside.

It's a terrible year to roll the dice (last year wasn't, we just got the worst one). What's funny is Saleh is probably the best coaching candidate available.

There seems to be a fairly common theme here that Johnson is a penny pincher when I have never seen anything that supports (or disproves) that attitude. I'm also too lazy to look which is why I asked someone making a similar comment. Then again, Johnson is not a guy who does much in the public eye but that doesn't stop many here from assuming all kinds of things about him. The important thing is that nothing he has tried in 25 years has resulted in any success longer than a season or two - just like his predecessors.

Klint Kubiak and Kingsbury would be good guys to target. Not sure if Kingsbury would even be open to taking the job but Kubiak has never been a HC before so I'd think we'd have a shot at landing him.

I think these two with Gruden and McCarthy as options as well is the direction we should go. Between these 4 guys I’d be certain we have a competent person at the helm.

I’m not so sure about Gruden, and I have no idea on his legal situation or if he could even be hired as an NFL HC these days, but regardless I don’t think he is the guy….yes, I’d prefer him to Glenn, but at this point, I’d say go eat crow and call McCarthy, call Kingsbury, and call Kubrick.

We have a trove of picks to woo them with.

Those would be the first three calls I’d make. I’m sure there may be a few other decent candidates, but I would focus only on offensive coaches…I’ve seen enough first time defensive guys we don’t need to go that route any more.

I think each one of these 3 would be a major upgrade over Glenn. I guess pretty much anyone would be, but still, I think we can get 1 of the 3 on that list. Kubiak would be my 1st choice. The things he is doing with Sam are pretty amazing. Even better than KOC last year. And he has #2 offense in the NFL this year. Plus there is Denver connection with Mooge. Imagine if Mooge could help get him and also get Jim Leonard from Denver, who is a former Jet, as a DC? We might have a real shot next season. Right now I don't think Jim would come here if Woody were to keep this lame duck coach.

McCarthy also is not a bad option. Cowboys didn't improve that much without him overall even though they got Dak back and also Pickens. The offense did get better though, which is understandable since McCarthy only had Dak for 7 full games. Plus they added Pickett. The season before 2023 McCarthy had #1 offense in the NFL with Dak, and he did call the offense himself. Something I think he should do here if we end up with him. He did not have much success in the play-offs, but we are so far away from that, just making play-offs would be a major accomplishment. And that's something McCarthy has done very well.

Kingsbury I also wouldn't mind. Again, in his case Arizona did worse without him. He then had a really good season calling offense last year, but regressed this year. Still there is some potential there.

Another guy I would add to the list is Joe Brady. Especially is he can put up some points on us without the starters this Sunday. :)

I'm getting ahead of the game -- I'm ready to fire whomever we hire next, AND the guy after that!

This is what happens when you've been beaten down so long in sports or in life. You start thinking any other option is better than your current situation.

This is a sickness created by a toxic, losing franchise for years.

Unless it's a proven, high end NFL coach, this would be a horribly reactive move that will yield no results and could delay the rebuild even more. Add to it, the optics of firing a well respected name like Aaron Glenn after just 1 season.

The Jets need a culture changer. They need a Parcells or a Belichick or a Reid. All these coordinator names are garbage, They will all fail here miserably.

Glenn will be the Head Coach next year. Book it. Better start focusing on actually improving the roster now.

Unfortunately, you are probably right about Glenn returning. He can continue his “brand of football” bullshit without explaining what that is because, from my vantage his BRAND is a stinking pile.

A side note: I’m wondering, so Mayo, up in NE, wasn’t a well respected name? You mentioned how Glenn was a well respected name that shouldn’t be canned after 1 year…

Right. But with a rock solid plan in place to replace him with a major upgrade (Vrabel). I just don't see that with us. I don't want anyone not named Flores, McCarthy, or some other proven guy. I just don't want it. Especially moving on after 1 year which is just not healthy having so much turnover in such a short time. It's just not. That's why I said only IF we get one of those proven names. Otherwise, stick with Glenn and let's upgrade the roster for next year.

    no to Flores

he didn’t build Miami into a winner and he won’t do any better here. I think he’s better than Glenn but I’d much rather go get McCarthy. I’d also rather have Kingsbury.

We need someone who understands offense…why is this not clear?

Then it's McCarthy or bust for me on offense. I actually like Flores. To me, he has a head coaching demeanor and I think he'd be much better the next time I'm around from his Miami mistakes. I want nothing to with Kingsbury or any of the other flavor of the moment coordinators. They wouldn't last a NY second. Let some other team test out those guinea pigs.
