I actually think this is quite an interesting year to have one of the top two picks. It's clearly not 2021.

The second QBs picked in the 2023, 2024 and 2025 drafts all turned out to be pretty damn good. We can't let the bad experience of 2021 taint our strategy.

    Pick QBs high and often!!

I did give him credit, I said he was a good defensive coach. But I don't think they even make play-offs in 2001 without Brady. They were 0-2 with Bledsoe, then of course it's the Jets that take him out and Brady wins 14 of next 17. I am not saying they didn't need defense just because Brady was there. Belichick was a good coach. But without Brady he is not some legend, there is plenty of body of work without him, and there is also older and diminished Brady without Belichick with another coach, and the record speaks for itself. All of the sudden Arians looks like Belichick and Belichick looks like Ariens when Brady switched.

I didn't mean so much the 2nd QB taken (who may end up being the best QB) rather always not getting the guy that the team really wanted:

    2009 - wanted Stafford - got Sanchez
    2018 - wanted Mayfield - got Darnold
    2021 - wanted Lawrence - got Wilson

one of the big problems the Jets have had is the inability to ever be as bad as they need to be to get the player they really wanted.

They fail at tanking just as badly as they fail at winning. Kind of a paradox.

Man, 2009 was long time ago. But we were #17 then, trading up to #5 specifically for Sanchez. Sure, Stafford was a consensus #1, but wasn't even close to being in the cards for us. We won 9 games, Detroit won 0.

In 2018 we wanted Sam. Baker was discussed more since the assumption was Sam was going #1 and he was the second choice. That changed on the day of the draft. So, surprisingly we actually got our top guy. And we were all ecstatic back then. And Sam was a good guy, too bad the Jets, and most of all JD failed him.

2021, yeah, that's when we definitely had to tank, like the Jags did, but we didn't. I just heard a podcast by Connor Hughes, where he mentioned Gase was trying to win a game to specifically avoid giving the Jets' next coach Lawrence. I am listing this below. This is yet another reason where you just don't keep a coach, like Glenn, on a hot seat like that. Just get rid of him. But yes that year everyone wanted Lawrence of course.

Depending on whether Moore declares, by the time draft rolls, more people may want him, including us, and he seems as good or better than Mendoza.

and that right there is while the pats management is viewed as heartless and a bunch of assholes they make the right moves when the right moves need to be made. theyve done it for decades. getting a little long in the tooth but have been a stud for us, see you later. they have no loyalty to anything but winning and if you arent helping them win you are gone.

the jets couldnt find a great hc if he walked in and took a shit on woodys desk. and they never will with the absurd way that they do things. its always a shot in the dark seeing if they hit.

I think 2018 was probably a little up in the air. Right to the end it wasn't that obvious who the top pick would be, to me at least. And neither Baker nor Sam came good with their first teams, so it's not clear that we lost out there.

2021 was a complete and total bleep show. At this point I think we should stop considering that draft completely. It is likely to be the worst QB draft of 25 years.

I hate tanking and I like winning, so this is bittersweet for me. But I cannot deny the truth of your statement.

The way the Jets have been playing I really NEED to believe that they are tanking on purpose. I have no illusions that this is not one of the worst rosters in football but my God, they look worse every week.

Even with a roster overhaul, what is the reason to believe going into next year?

It's very important to remember that we (as a fanbase) were too good for Rex Ryan (and Jon Gruden, and Aaron Rodgers, and Devonte Adams, and Sam Darnold). We deserve Aaron Glenn.

Glenn has not proved he deserves another year at HC.
Depends on what you're willing ot believe doesn't it... Believe this team will be a contender? No Believe this team will make some miracle transition into a respectable NFL football team? No. Believe what you saw this year will be what you'll see next year? Probably..

Glenn may not be worse than Gase, but he certainly isn’t clearly better. He brings nothing to the table as he NEVER was a good defensive mind; the majority of his tenure at DC his teams were awful defensively.

The whole myth of the “Lions way” and “Lions culture” can finally die too (not that anyone should have bought into it anyway). Turns out that without the elite OL and elite OC they are just a mediocre non playoff team.

I would take Gase over Glenn 99 out of 100 times.

Like I said, if this isn't a strategy (tanking) then, this level of play is beyond alarming. No NFL team should be this non competitive every week.

Glen's team has shown no evidence that he's worth keeping, and with the draft picks and cap room the Jets will have, they'll never be in a better position to lure a top coaching candidate.

I am all for this but I don’t think the Jets can land a top coach.
Another glorified coordinator is just going to be rinse and repeat.
They should follow the Pats playbook from last year and fire Glenn only if they can land a big dog.

Glenn will return. Woody hates paying people who are not employed.

Only the Jets could be the worst team in the NFL and not get the first draft pick.
