But now we're in the wrong round robin, by this explanation. Those guys landed because of Herbert and Caleb yet we are in a situation where the likelihood of the Jets landing a QB of that caliber to entice coaches like them is a long shot at best. Then the cycle continues. I guess we'll find out what direction we're heading in after NY and Buff whomp us by a combined 60 or 70 points.
Obviously if another team with an opening has a promising young QB, they will get the first dibs. It will depend on how many of these opening are there, what coach they want, etc... But there should be multiple good coaches available. Woody just needs be able to pick the right guy instead of making a dumb choices again and again and again. Which is a very tough, maybe even impossible ask, I know.
I don't think anybody avoids the Jets "because they're the Jets". I think anybody that has options avoids the Jets because Woody Johnson owns the Jets and he will surround them with fools in every role that is needed to make a franchise function. The fact that he's not considering these candidates is exactly the point. I have zero expectation that this franchise is going to hit on HC or develop a QB before Woody is gone. Everything about him undermines those goals.
Right. But what coach do you think we’ve missed out on for those reasons other than the obvious Harbaugh & Ben Johnson?
Is that not enough? I am certain there are more examples but much like you I don't feel like spending Christmas eve scouring the interweb for articles. If you think we never missed out on players or coaches because of this team and the owner you must be delusional, this isn't and hasn't been anyone's first choice. Even if we sign players we over pay them, if it's us or virtually any respectable franchise they are choosing from they would have to be insane or have some sick masochistic fetish with losing. This isn't speculation or hyperbole, it's common sense. If you were offered a job at a fortune 500 company and offered the same job as a pickle slicer where your dick is the pickle for the exact same money and benefits would you be a pickle slicer JV?
He's been bad, but I understand why Woody wants to give him a 2nd season. If he stinks next season, then can him. I'm trying to be optimistic. If he gets the defensive coordinator right and hires a good QB coach, Engstrand improves next season and Mougey gets the offseason right, then the team could turn around. I know it's a lot of "ifs".
If EVERYTHING Glenn did will be completely different, yes things would get better, we agree there But usually when pretty much everything is wrong, it does not just get better. A few small things here and there, sure. But when you need so many key things, that really means you don't have the right guy in charge.
Yeah but like I said. Keep in mind, Harbaugh was lobbied for 5 years with an average of what? 4-6 openings every year? He didn’t just pass on the Jets, he passed on several openings every year. There aren’t many coordinators or coaches that get that luxury to pass on jobs for multiple years. I’m not putting my dick in a pickle slicer either. That analogy is asinine though. Jets coaches are making 7 figures a year working 1 of 32 jobs of it’s ilk in the world.
We have 5 first round picks, 8 total picks in the first 2 rounds over the next two years. We won’t possibly be any more attractive to a prospective GOOD coach as we will be this year. Allowing Glenn to be the coach of a rookie QB is a goddamn travesty. Now is the time to clean up our mistake and find a qualified and competent coach that understands offense!
The anology I referenced was the punchline of a joke I learned in High school. That said I would equate being a Jets fan to sticking my dick in a pickle slicer. Love ya JV, as I do all my gang green family. I wish you the best tomorrow morning and wish nothing but the best to you and yours. Merry Christmas to all and to all good night.
Most of your list came to the Jets via trade not signing here, and while not 20 years ago most are in the 15-19 years ago range. Thomas Jones was via trade 19 years ago Braylon Edwards came via trade and then off waivers Santonio Holmes came via trade ( yes he resigned when clearly on the way down) Kris Jenkins came via trade via trade Cromartie came via trade and then resigned on the decline and waived after 1 year. Ladanian did sign when he was a shell of his HoF self Leveon Bells career was over when he decided to sit out a year, not highly sought after/way over paid Brandon Marshall came via trade I will give you Mosely but we did overpay. Decker was a good signing Woody and Faneca were as a said Oline at the end of their careers who were in the last 3 years of careers. Not really supporting the idea that highly sought after players are coming here. ‘
and since then the only HC hired that had any previous HC experience was Adam Gase who had just been canned in Miami. and Al Groh jumped ship after a 1 year stint and a winning record to go to UVA.
Merry Christmas dude. You were equating being the Jets head coach to putting your dick in a pickle slicer though lol. It’s all good. Have some egg nog.
You know guys how I like to shit on Woody when he deserves it, but I do like the truth, evidence, and facts first and foremost, and will go where ever they lead me, even if it contradicts what I previously thought. In this case, as dumb as Woody proved to be later, what you are saying is not exactly how it went down. Parcells didn't run. He didn't want to coach anymore because it is very demanding and he was getting older, but he actually stayed as the GM. Also, I know we are going far back down the memory lane, but it was not clear who would be the buyer until basically January of 2020. It was very close between Woody and Dolan and went down to the wire. We were talking about the biggest NFL team sale at the time. Belichick resigned on Jan 4th, and it wasn't just spur of the moment decision, he must have talked to Kraft and had everything finalized for a while before that. Woody was not confirmed yet as the owner and it looked like Dolan could actually emerge there. The bottom line is, there was definite uncertainty, and Kraft took advantage and got Belichick. I cannot blame Woody for this. I CAN blame Woody that now, 25 years later, he is following antiquated approach with the guy who reminded him of Parcells, but clearly no Parcells, and probably not willing to rectify his mistake after 1 year, like Kraft did with Mayo, but what happened with Parcells and Belichick is not on him. It probably would have been better if Dolan bought the Jets, but at the same time the Knicks were not doing very well under him either, and he was also considered the worst owner in sports, but looks like things turned around a bit after he stepped away. Hence my hope that Brick can actually step in at some point soon and maybe improve things...
Agree...this team has not improved, period. That should get AG fired but we all know Woody won't so his Christmas gift to us is to have AG coach in 26....
“Essentially the problem I had with the whole arrangement eventually was when all of this transpired there was no owner,” Belichick said. “Mr. Hess passed away before the ’99 season. There were two potential owners and that was [Woody] Johnson and [Charles] Dolan. I hadn’t spoken with either one, but I had issues with both, and it wasn’t Mr. Hess anymore, which was the original agreement or the original context we talked about. That whole ownership configuration at that point in time was a major factor in my decision much more than a personal relationship.”
