This team is so much worse than last year under Ulbrich, I would take Ulbrich, Saleh, fuck even Gase in a second over Glenn.
This last point is fucking spot on! Two things: 1. For a while there, we were flipping between DC’s who ran the 4-3 and then a DC who ran the 3-4, and that caused us to constantly have to change players…we had Vilma as a great 4-3 MLB, but then we switched to the 3-4 and he was too small for that role. We’ve done this plenty of times. 2. The other issue is that because we suck so often, we hear the fucked up excuse that runs something like this: “well, we are losing WITH player X, we can easily lose WITHOUT player X” … shit we heard that this year with both Sauce and Q. And this team loves to buy into the excuse and the “hope” of future draft picks, which have inevitably been wasted time after time after time. Totally hard to build a better roster when you keep getting rid of good players…we just traded two All Pro’s for the chance to draft more All Pro’s, which is not common at all.
If you come into a job lauded as the lieutenant on a team that played like they would do anything they could to win a game, you would hope something like that would bleed over in the big culture shift. Maybe it's too soon to see those effects, but you expect to see something different and a higher level of competitive spirit start to show up on the field during the season. This team has showed as little heart and focus on the field as any Jets team that I've seen in maybe ever. The defense looked like an afterthought and then they fired their DC hiring choice as the sacrificial lamb, even though the hire was it's own head-scratcher. For decades, there's been little to look forward to with this team outside the hopeful uncertainty of the NFL draft, the only place the Jets are allowed to act like they matter in the NFL. Glenn has not elevated that even in the slightest. Yeah, fire him. He's failing as generically as you can Bring on the next disaster, and make it more entertaining at least. I want flying tacos.
Agree with your general point on coaching, but when it comes to Mike, he was 3-5 even with Dak last year. This is not so different than what they have this year. I still would consider him, but that drop off you speak of I am not sure has occurred for Dallas. Also he drafted that total bust of a DT with the 1st round pick that we got in the trade.
The first 10 years of Woody's tenure were him doing nothing and letting what was left of the Parcells guys run the team. After that, the Jets have been the worst team in the NFL.
That’s fine. Do you think prospective coaches stay away from the Jets more than the Browns or Raiders?
The incompetence of the Jets live rent free in the heads of Jets fans only, but the fan base is convinced that the rest of the NFL hates the Jets as much as their fans. Year after year, almost everybody says "nobody will want to come here" despite the fact that year after year, this team gets highly sought after players and coaches. While things haven't worked out, it doesn't mean that guys like Bowles and Saleh weren't highly sought after prospects. But because they didn't succeed, this fanbase has revised history and acts like all the good coaches told Woody to get fucked when they were offered interviews, and the only people who took the job were rejected losers that nobody else wanted. The fact of the matter is the Jets are one of a few struggling franchises, and just because they have the longest playoff drought doesn't mean they're the only team that's struggling. And, people forget that there are tons of coaches who want to be like Parcells, Walsh, Payton, or Campbell, and be the next guy who turned a struggling team into a contender.
You made the point I’ve been trying to make for two weeks way more concise and succinct. Thank you lol.
This is mostly true, although Ben Johnson told Woody to kick rocks and he was the #1 coach candidate last off season so there's one, I mean there have certainly been others that's just the most recent. But your right there will always be someone willing to take the plunge.
Rumblings John Harbaugh might be out in Baltimore!!! If he gets canned Woody needs to fire Glenn and fly straight to Harbaugh house with a brinks truck en route.
Were the Jets to decide to make a change this offseason, one would have to think that this would be the offseason they would have the greatest ability to attract coaches that might otherwise be out of reach for them. Not many franchises can offer a new coach the ability to make 5 first round picks over the next two seasons with additional 2nd round picks available as well. A new coach coming in would immediately be able to begin shaping this franchise in his image. That's why Woody really needs to take a good look at how this season has gone and realize the once in a generation opportunity sitting in front of him to truly reset this franchise and get it pointing in the right direction for a change.
We can only dream. I will say if Harbaugh is available and we stick with Glenn while Harbaugh turns around the Giants or some shit we will lose it lol.
Really good point here. This is probably the most attractive we are going to get for an elite coach to want to take this job. Glenn is a scrub. Woody needs to understand that having the ability to make 8 picks in the top 60 in the next 2 seasons is incredibly rare and a new coach with credentials would find that incredibly impressive opportunity to build a team around that group of players.
I agree as well. Woody also is easy to fool and keeps them too long, which sucks for us fans, but great for the candidates. We will see another example of that this year when Woody will keep Glenn, who had a historically bad year. There are some coaches that would not want to come here, like Ben Johnson last year, but it is because we do not have a QB in place and there was no path to get one. If we can find a way to get a good QB, this obstacle would be removed as well. Easier said than done though.
Ok. I mean pictures of douchebag billionaire owners being douchebags doesn’t really answer my question.
I think fumble differential is more random, but good QBs don't throw picks and bad ones do, so INT differential is more predictable. Caleb Williams has been crazy lucky with the fumbles (7, but recovered them all), but he has also thrown only 6 picks. The second stat may be more durable. And for these teams, a lot of their other personnel numbers have improved. Offensive line, run defense rate. Special teams. Funny how good teams seem to make fewer mistakes across the board. Even JAG players suddenly start to become solid players, and solid players become good. Oddly these teams have given me more hope. It reinforces the belief that no team is far away (and by extension, there is no reason to tear a team down to the studs)
The Browns crazy swing on Deshaun Watson has crippled the team for years. One can be too aggressive. And they are objectively worse with a more meddling owner who wants to hire coaches and GMs separately, decided that football experience was basically a handicap in his football front office, overrode his GM to draft a QB who cold texted him because allegedly a homeless man told him to, and didn't fire a coach who went 1-15 and then 0-16 the next year, because allegedly Peter King called him too quick on the trigger. Haslam is a certified idiot. There are worse owners than Woody.
