It was sort of the point I was making a couple weeks ago about his personality but I skewed it more towards the overly religious stuff and not the goofy nerdy crap. But they both kind of tie into each other.

The only two personality types I can remember that are as goofy as him are Russell Wilson and Kirk. Kirk got railroaded by Stefon Diggs & Thielen a number years ago when they made him go on a radio show and apologize for not getting them the ball or some shit. He also played into it and wore a big ass goofy chain. Fitz had some of it in him too.

Idunno I think they probably win the Big 10 this year with Kurtis Rourke from last year too. Indiana’s been building to this, it’s not like Mendoza got here and he turned the ship around which is kind of what the perception seems to be here.

Yeah, I’m sure there was more to that turnaround than just the QB…I did watch this whole game and granted it’s the only game of Mendoza’s that I have seen, so my sample size is exactly just this game.

    My key takeaways

    1. Dude came up HUGE in big moments on the road at OSU…that’s a big building and hard to play in, so he impressed me quite a bit just by winning the game, but he also had some HUGE key throws on third and shorts to extend drives, and a couple or three of those were like 20 yard downfield throws instead of dump offs on third and short..that is fucking moxie and confidence and stood out to me…he didn’t turtle over he went for the jugular. Gotta love that.

    2. His post game interview was cringe…not sure why you would be crying and it may not be PC but also it’s not the norm for a football player…the religious thing as well I won’t judge and more power to him, but yah, I came away from that more turned off than on board and yeah it sure feels like that may be a tough act in NY, but again, winning on the field trumps it all, and he did do that

They weren’t on the road though. They played into Indianapolis at Lucas Oil where the Colts play. They had the crowd advantage as well.

I predict he's going to look very out of place as QB1 for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Moore is a little different, he transferred to become a backup and work on his game.

I do have a dislike of the portal but I'm not really holding that against Mendoza here. You are just making it seem as if he was the reason Indiana rose to this level by mentioning he accomplished something they never did before. Indiana was 11-2 last season. He left Cal and joined a great team. In the NFL he's going to be drafted by a bad team. I'm not sure his soft, giddy nature is suited for all that that entails, especially in NY.

I have other concerns about Moore but he appears to be composed in the face of pressure

Yeah, a bit cringy for sure, but who gives a fuck though? If he wins Conf championship for us and does this type of emotional interview, would anyone really care? I sure don't, hell I might join him, I've been waiting for so long for something like this for the Jets. Play well, win, and that's about it. That's exactly what he did. They haven't won like this since 1945, are we really going to get on the guy's ass for being emotional after a victory like that? I don't understand what the problem is. I do prefer Moore, but not for this reason.

And here is the kicker, even next week we may not evaluate him. I just learned they have an opponent (J Madison) they are 21 points favorites against? I thought this was supposed to be best of the best, 12 best teams. This is so stupid right there. Why not play Vanderbuilt, Texas, ND, some good school like that? Same thing for Tulane. They already got their asses kicked by Ole Miss 45-10 and lost against another bad team, how do they make top 12 just so that they are huge dogs again against Ole MIss? This does not make any sense.

Let's not all forget that defense. Full disclosure, I was far FAR more impressed with Indiana's defense than I was with Mendoza! I don't watch college football, as you all now know, but damn, caught me totally by surprise. Hell, I'll ask it, why can't the Jets play defense like that?? I was watching a little before the game started and the talking heads were pimping the defense and I was, literally, telling myself, "How good could they be?" Uhhh...yeah, there is some legit NFL talent on Indiana's defense to be sure. Probably more so than Ohio State, IMO.

I have defended the dorkiness but this is making me question whether we should even tank.

When he played for Cal, he had similar numbers and similar interviews.

I believe some of it is related to being young and having a mother who is wheelchair bound with MS.

I don’t care how these guys sound in their interviews, most of these NFL players are quirky individuals, we just don’t see them away from the game.

If Mendoza is the guy Jets want and they simply want him to manage game for now, and get them through the tough part of their schedule then so be it, just make sure they don’t disregard the oline and skill positions.

I also would not trade away picks to move up, Jets need help on defense and need those picks to bolster the roster.

Mendoza seems to embrace who he is and whoever our qb is I want them to be confident and inspire the guys around him. He seems to be media savvy too, if he is a Jet he will at least be able to handle the circus here. As for his play it all is a crapshoot, as fans it is hard to really tell who has the IT factor. Most professionals in this job to identify struggle too. Get the guy who lifts others and the others lift him.

Chad Pennington was good but injury prone
    Mark Sanchez was borderline bad
    Sam Darnold wasn't ready
Zach Wilson was a complete bust

Can we finally get one of these right?

I don't think they have a choice but to take one this year by whatever means necessary, they can't afford to wait till 27 after how bad this year has been. Can't imagine they have a job in 27 with a bridge, need to shoot your shot. Plus if they take one this year and he tanks they can double down next year.

I imagine they're fully planning to move up to take Mendoza. They'll flip two firsts and a second to move up to one. If the Raiders end up with the number one pick, I'd think the Jets will wait until they're on the clock. Depending on where they are drafting they could just select Dante Moore and call it a day.

It’s going to be interesting for sure

We currently sit at 5 but it’s going to be in flux until the end because you have what, the Giants, Raiders and Titans with 2 wins, and then us, Saints, Browns, Commanders, and Cardinals with 3 wins…I think that’s accurate. We do play the Saints in that group, and we’ve already beaten the Browns. Plus we may win one more somewhere in there (Saints?) but the way we are playing we may just lose them all.

Of those teams, the only ones who don’t need a QB would be the Titans, Giants, and Commanders. The Raiders could go QB, as could the Browns, and the Saints and Cardinals I think would go QB, though the Saints are getting some decent play from their rookie so who knows?

Point is, if we stay at around 5 or so, I doubt Mendoza makes it to us, not sure on Moore…not necessarily on merit but QBs always go high and these teams do need QBs…and even if they don’t, they would likely trade out to a team that does want a QB. The fact that there aren’t a bunch of good options at QB I think will drive the trade up price higher and I think probably both Mendoza and if Moore comes out they both go high due to the lack of quality QBs this year.

If we have one of them fall to our draft spot, wherever it ends up, I wouldn’t mind taking the QB, but I think a trade up is going to be pricey and the players may not be worth it, especially as we have holes. I think it’s a good sign that the Broncos with Mougey just stayed put and had Nix fall into their lap so hopefully he plays this draft smart.

My gut tells me the Browns and Saints punt on drafting a QB.

I think the Raiders will definitely be interested in taking one, but it almost doesn’t make sense unless they fire Carroll. He was brought there to stabilize the organization knowing he would move on sooner than later. With their dismal performance this year why would you let him choose a QB, likely retire or get fired next year and strap your new choice with whoever he selecte.

The Cardinals most definitely will be interested in taking one as Gannon tries to buy more time to save his job.

I think we end up with more clarity based on what happens with Carroll & Gannon’s jobs.

The Cardinals play the Texans, Falcons, Bengals and then the Rams who may be able to lay down in week 18 but I doubt it.

The Raiders play the Eagles, Texans, Giants and Chiefs.

Giants do play the Raiders this year. Not sure who to root for there but likely we want Raiders to lose

No, we want the Raiders to win. They are definitely taking a QB, I have no doubt, which means we want them to pick lower.
