Fields is among the more frustrating QBs, because you can see the physical talent. He feels like the textbook definition of "can make all the throws." I know thats said about every QB, but this is the first time I feel like I truly see it.

Unfortunately, he seems to only play great when he has extraordinary protection. That works for games here and there, but no offensive line is going to be that good for a 17 game season.

    Because that’s who he is.

His problem is not physical…yes he has a strong arm and he is athletic, so yes he can “make all the throws”. The problem with him is between the ears…he does not have the requisite mental part of being a QB.

If he can see an open guy and has time to throw it, he can get the ball there. But he can’t do the other stuff

That’s why that TD throw with pressure in his face I would not have expected him to make in a million years…that was an anticipatory throw with pressure…well played there. But with him, that is the one exception…we NEVER see him make those kinds of throws.

    I just don’t think it’s in him.

and let’s not get fooled into thinking he’s “getting it” or he’s “turned the corner” or whatever else they will want to say…we played literally the worst D in the league…if he can play like that consistently against better defenses, then I’ll start noticing…but until then I’ll stick to my evaluation of him.

There was a lot at play yesterday. The Woody disaster, going back to Fields, the Mangold news... it's really hard to tell what was what. But I do feel like I saw a lot of what we've been seeing all year from Engstrand, the execution was just far better. Is it the opponent or is it the QB, OL and RB clicking? Was Tyler Johnson getting open for the first time all year (although he was good against Carolina too)? Was Breece extra motivated because it's his last game before the trade deadline?

I full expect the Browns game to be a regression to the mean but one of these dudes is probably here for the long haul, and he's the one that's for the most part done his job consistently well. So that's the big win I'm taking from yesterday.

It was the exact same play he hit Garrett for a TD on in week 1. Hopefully that's something Engstrand sees and takes advantage of.

I will say... I have absolutely nothing against religion in any way as long as people aren't pushing it on others which he absolutely is not... but the whole breaking down crying in the closet thing... yikes. Dude seemingly has gone kooky.

He was being vulnerable and lets be honest his closet is the size of our master bedroom. Dude probably was frustrated about not getting a win yet

I feel strongly opposed to your take. I was worried that Fields did not care. He was taking sacks, losing, the owner shitting on him, and not really showing any frustration. But with those comments he showed that he cares deeply and for that I am more encouraged.

We just went through a situation where the no.2. overall pick reluctantly started games late in the year and seemingly wanted to be benched/traded/cut. I'll take kooky every single time over that bullshit

Probably should have clarified... he said it wasn't even about football.

Edit: Eh, he didn't say it wasn't about football. Nevermind I suppose. Originally I read it like he was one of those people speaking tongues in the church in Borat when he said it was about spreading faith.

    I get that 100%.

    BUT

The Jets have played other bad defensive teams this season they looked ferocious against the Jets even in this game the Bengals defense was all smiles early on. It was looking like more of the same crap we had watched for most of the season.

Then Fields completed that short pass underneath, then another and another and another.

I don't know what to expect from Fields and co. coming off the bye. It is difficult for me to imagine Fields and the Jets with two weeks to rest & prepare for Cleveland, possibly getting Wilson back, coming off that performance against the Bengals playing offense the way they did against Buffalo, Dallas, Carolina at home.

    I'm hopeful.

The Jets gotta give us something to cheer for, to get excited about.

If the Jets do show signs that Cincinatti was a turning point especially Fields get a WIN against Cleveland I'll feel giddy.

He disqualified himself in the first half with the Jets in their own territory fourth down and two feet to go. Feet, not yards. His play started with the ball being pitched to twenty feet behind the line. TFL turnover in scoring position for the Bengals. Probably the play you mention.
