I'm not totally out on Engstrand yet but he definitely hasn't been great. I do think we have receivers open but the playcalling leaves some to be desired. He's not the sort of OC who elevates bad QBs like the best OCs do. I'm not sure he's awful yet though given how bad Fields/Taylor have been. Firing Engstrand when Glenn has been the bigger issue reminds me of Douglas scapegoating LaFleur for Wilson and Saleh's failures.
As soon as the Panthers went up 10-3 I turned to my wife and said “That’s it…insurmountable lead” I was right This is among the worst Jets teams ever, right on par with the Kotite and Gase teams At this point, there is NO WAY we can bring AG back, right? I mean, NOTHING has improved…NOTHING. I’m sorry, we are not a good team and I only expected like 5 wins…looks like I WAY overvalued this team…I knew we were bad, but can’t believe we are THIS bad…this team could legitimately go 0 for the season…this was one of like 3 or so games where we would have had a shot…and I know the score was close but come on, did ANYBODY think we had a shot here? I know I didn’t
With Tyrod I felt we did but he didn't play well. 2 picks. Missed some throws. He took some sacks too. I was disappointed. Had he made a few of those throws it's a different game. When he came into the game we were ready to explode but the Jets didn't give the fans that spark. On the positive side Tyrod got the ball downfield, the flea flicker was a bit of welcome creativity. That's how the Jets need to play loose, creative, aggressive.
The play calling is poor. He doesn't elevate g his players. Nobody is improving under him. Out of curiosity, exactly what would it take for you to be out on Engstrand? Does he have to hand deliver our playbook to the opposing locker room? Punch AG and break his jaw over a debt? Officially draw up the buttfumble play?
He's been hot garbage. His offense is killing this team. Signs of life in the Dallas game with the spread offense and this game with the flea flicker. I much prefer to lose as we did today with Tyrod throwing int. DOWNFIELD going for big plays than what I saw last week. At least it feels as if the Jets are taking swings and going for it rather than a sparring partner throwing puny jabs. Open up the offense and coach/play loose. The team is 0-7 likely headed for 0-8 so what is there to lose?
The Titans today are a great example. Coach fired, rookie QB, season gone. This team has not scored 10 points combined in the first quarter all year. They came out swinging today, with Cam Ward throwing 4-of-5 for 87 yards and 10 points in the first quarter of this game. Yeah they eventually got crushed, but at least there's something to build on here.
It's not that I think Engstrand has been good, he hasn't. The team just has so many issues that I'm not ready to pinpoint him as a major one yet. Glenn has been an awful coach, the defense has been atrocious other than the last two weeks, and we have one of the worst QBs in the NFL. We're the fifth best running team in the NFL by yards per rush. That's not nothing, and it's actually pretty impressive when you consider that teams know we can't pass. It's hard to know how much blame Engstrand shares for the passing game when Fields might be the worst passer in the NFL. I haven't checked the latest open rates at receiver but earlier in the year it was clear we had guys getting open, Fields was just unable to get them the ball.
Great. But we can't score. I'm sure teams are very happy to let us run as long as we get stopped on 3rd down and can't score. Every cloud has a silver lining. Doesn't stop us getting rained on.
I never knew Fields was this bad, I just thought he was a bad passer. But he's historically bad. When you add the jets have 1 receiver, they default to they will be lucky to win 3 games with that recipe.
He takes 3-5 business days before he can make up his mind where to throw it then when he does, it’s often inaccurate. he shrugs his shoulders, walks off the field and politely says it’s not working. strange guy
I can't put a whole lot at the feet of Engstrand at the moment. I was willing to give Fields the benefit of the doubt, like others. However, we simply couldn't have expected for Fields to be THIS bad. I mean, if Sam Darnold was seeing ghosts, this kid is seeing full blown apparitions out there. I broke out the trusted NFL+ and went back and watched. This kid is staring down receivers that are 2 and 3 yards OPEN and simply can't pull the trigger. His confidence is G-O-N-E and, if I were Glenn it would almost be cruel to put his ass back there. You ride with Taylor and use Fields only when necessary. I really can't believe how BAD this team is. Ya'll need to stop talking about Kotite and Gase. The year isn't in the books, yet, but I think you'll be hard pressed to find a worse season that this mess.
I think it’s his demeanor that gets me the most. At least when Zach fucked up he was visibly bothered by it. Fields fucks up and he’s acting like the grocery store didn’t have what he was looking for so he’s leaving.
Tailgate was a 10. The weather was perfect. Scallop and Bacon sandwiches on butter fried Brioche rolls were outstanding! Beer was cold and flowed like a river. On the down side, many empty parking spaces. About 1/4 Jet tailgaters present. So many empty seats in the stadium. Jets couldn’t get off the ground offensively. Defense appeared to hold the Panthers most of the game. The boos were not as loud due to the lack of Jet fans. There was a muted cheer in the 3rd Qtr when Tyrod took over. Left beginning of 4th Qtr after one of two Tyrod interceptions. If I don’t buy season tickets next year will I loose the $8,000.00 in PSL? Is any of that even marketable?
when things are going well that’s the demeanor that you want. Not too high or too low, a steady influence. But I agree it’s difficult to watch when things are this bad. It’s like he’s been over-coached
Who would've guessed trying to torch a rusted brake rotor off my truck would be better than finding a stream for this game? well... unfortunately me First game I haven't watched in quite awhile.... My brother in NY (who's usually way more positive than me) called me to say "I sat through every game during the Kotite years, but this is worse! F- this team! Unless it's cold, raining, and I have nothing better to do I'm not watching these losers....I'm done...."
Only positive I can say is that I no longer watch the games live…I go do something nice on Sunday morning and then wait for the NFL App to post the Condensed game and I watch that, so I only have to suffer for about 35-40 minutes of this shit. As soon as the Panther went up 10-3 I was like “that’s it…insurmountable lead” Unfortunately I was right
The parking situation was an absolute dream. We rolled in, got a great spot, no one parked near us, we had our tables and grill out into other spaces. Post game there were literally no cars in line to get out of the lot on to route 120. Made it back to CT in under 90 mins which is absolutely unheard of on a gameday.
