Yeah, could have spent a 1st round pick on this: https://x.com/NFL_DovKleiman/status/1974911324967821374
Well said. Let's not forget the penalties. What in the hell are these guys thinking? And, it's the same handful of fools every single game. Especially the big 15 yard ones. ALWAYS at least 1 if not 2 a game. 30 flipping yards in the wrong direction and almost ALWAYS on a 3rd down or down in the red zone. It's uncanny how often this is happening...
Looking at this game today, Jags only scored once at the half (7), punted the rest, and that does not mean the game is over. You could actually still have a chance if the defense does not give up 14 points every 2 mins. And Liam is not even a defensive coach. Just smart enough to recognize a decent DC. Who is doing a lot better now than Glenn did ever as a DC.
They should try like hell to trade him since he’s still putting up garbage time stats. I mentioned Cincinnati before, another good option is Minnesota or even Baltimore if Lamar Jackson is hurt helps us get out of his contract and yeah it would be nice to get something in return. he’s not the guy, I’ve seen enough
I just have to say, Fields made some mistakes, but he's not the reason the team is losing. They are coughing the ball up and cutting many possessions short. Fields has 67% completion, 4 passing TDs, no interceptions, 3 rushing TDs, 1 fumble, 100 QB rating. That's not really that bad. Cut out like half the turnovers & penalties and this team has a winning record right now.
What guy are you getting? Liam is winning with a guy like that. Tomlin won last year. Heck Bob and MILF would have won more and contended for the play-offs. They had Zach who could not put ANY stats any any time and won 7 games. Let's get a coach first, then you can trade the whole team.
What people refer to "garbage time" is when we are down more than one score. The problem is that whenever we don't score a lot right away, it will be garbage time in short order because the defense is awful. And last two games we could not score right away. Mainly because of fumbles inside 10 and penalties and also due to Fields and others. And if we don't score a lot, "garbage time" in 3d quarter. Coming back is also not possible, defense will make sure of that.
I gave a like to each of these posts: “enough of Fields …put in Tyrod” “BTW ..have you noticed ? Tyrod sucks too” So both give us an equal chance of getting the # 1 pick in the draft ..lmao
If the defense is going to give up 30 points a game, we may as well have W.C. Fields at QB. They give us no chance to win. Any time the opposition has to score, they score … easily. Even with all the turnovers, penalties, and general stupidity, if we just had a bad defense instead of an ABYSMAL defense, we’d probably have two wins right now
The defense gives us the best chance at #1 pick, not the QBs we have, which are better than what Saleh had when he won 7 games. Plus shit coaching, penalties, and stupid TOs.
i bro you got issues. Where did I say trade the whole team. I was talking about one, underperforming, yet statistically inflated player only. Those types are prime trade candidates
But... the optics with Tyrod are far better. Its an easier game to watch with Tyrod in there than watching Fields shit the bed weekly.
Getting rid of Fields right now would be ridiculous. That said, defending Fields in any way is even more ridiculous. Here’s the game scores in the first 3 quarters of the last 4 games: 6-23 TB 3-30 BUF 10-24 MIA 6-30 DAL Justin Fields is completely inept until the 4th Q when the opponent has a 2+ score lead and is playing D to drain the clock. Make no mistake, Justin Fields is awful. The lottery ticket is a loser like most people with common sense figured it would be. His contract was structured that it would be easy to cut him in year 2 without much cap ramification. He’ll be gone next year and we’ll be drafting a QB for our former DC turned 1st time HC to groom.
Since joining the Lions, Goff has run past the LOS about twice a game. Fields is averaging over 7 times per game. I think that’s relevant because if this offense is in any way intended to replicate what the Lions do then it was, like this season, destined to fail with Fields at QB. It also won’t set them up for success if the intent is to find a pure pocket passer in the future. I guess an argument can be made that the OL will be learning how to protect a QB who has loctite on his throwing hand, and bringing in someone with a quicker release would be a massive game changer.
I actually do think Fields is a big part of the problem. He holds the ball way too long and could use his legs even more. I thought he took more sacks than he needed to last week given his rushing ability. He seems to process slow, second-guess reads, and gets into spurts where his accuracy is way off. I was ready for him to sit the rest of the game after the 1st half against Miami. Now I do think Engstrand could give him more options for him to use his legs, which would open the offense up. The guy is one of the best rushing QBs the NFL has ever seen. They're severely limiting his and the offense's potential if he doesn't have more RPOs or designed runs. I don't think Engstrand has been bad so far, but I have some issue with this.
Might actually help that Denver's secondary is excellent. They might not even bother letting Fields think about throwing it downfield and call more designed QB runs
The only thing I can think of is that they really want to see if he can develop into even an average pocket QB but two things... 1. Anyone with eyes knows he won't 2. If you really wanted to assess him as a thrower you wouldn't give him Josh Reynolds as his WR2 So yea, I dunno why we aren't designing runs for one of the best running QBs ever. It's extra weird because Tanner seems pretty competent and intuitive otherwise.
I read something elsewhere that the Jets despise paying guys to sit on the bench injured or not. So organizationally, the overlords told the coaching staff to stop running him post-concussion. Might be a bit conspiracy theory-esque but it sounds very on brand for something Woody would do.
Fields actually had a 100 QBR against Dallas, even though he was sacked 5 times. To many free rushers, to many penalties, just a mediocre team.
